    ebay helmets, please help

I found two boba helmets on ebay, but I don't know if they are worth the auction price. I am sure others will outbid me, but I still want to learn what to look out for. What can the forum pros here tell me about the following two helmets?

I can't really afford them right now, but if I get enough good advice and thumbs up, I may put one one on a credit card. I am still searching for a good Boba and a good Jango. So I'll be holding out for good helmets, even if its months down the road. Thank you all for any help you can offer.

If anything, one of you will beat me to it and win the helmet.

Q: What is the policy on posting online auctions?
A: Posting information and/or links to a live online auction (i.e. ebay, Yahoo!, etc) is prohibited except under the following circumstances:

You are the seller in the auction. In this case you would be trying to advertise your auction to other potentially interested parties on at TDH Discussion Forums.

You suspect that the seller in the auction may be running a scam. (i.e. The "real" screen-used Boba Fett helmet.) In this case you would trying to inform and protect your fellow TDH Discussion Forum members from potentially illicit activity.

The auction is for an item or bid price that is obviously ridiculous. (i.e. "Tatooine" sand for $500.) In this case you would be trying to entertain or amuse your fellow TDH Discussion Forum members.

Posting information and/or links to live online auctions where the above criteria are not met is prohibited for several reasons. First, this could create competition between TDH Discussion Forums members. Some people tend to get their feelings hurt when others bid against them. Second, this could drive up the price of an auction if other interested parties become aware of the auction's existence. They may bid on the auction and drive up the price, thereby potentially angering your fellow TDH Discussion Forums member who may also be either bidding on the auction who were planning to bid.

Also, if you feel an auction is interesting and you want to inform your fellow TDH Discussion Forums members about it, feel free to post a information or a link to the auction AFTER it has ended.

The second one may be worth the price. But if I were you I would save my money and get an MSH2. Vary nice helmet from what I can see. Check it out click here

And it is not that expensive. Good luck

    Here's my best guesses.
The top auction has only a catalog photo so that one's a little iffy. They say it is a DP 96 and that looks about right. Not a bad bucket but the "no actual pic" thing might be scarey.

The bottom auction definitely appears to be a DP 95 based on the full recess of the visor. That one would be my pic. Just make sure they aren't trying to soak you on shipping costs.

Good luck brother. Either one will look great on the armor I've made for you.

OK, that being said, I'll give you my opinion on those auctions.

The first one is using a generic picture that more than likely was copied from an on-line retailer, not the picture of the helmet you are bidding on. I guess there is a slim chance that he could have taken the exact same picture of his, but it is unlikely.

The second one doesn't look too bad, possibly either a 1995 or 1996 Don Post.

In either case, I would highly recommend requesting the sellers to send you a picture of the date that is stamped on the back of the helmet AND a picture of the bottom of the helmet (like you are looking into it) so you'll have an idea if it is warped or not. A lot of times they will show you the 'good side' of the helmet, but the other side will be warped.

Also, a '95 is WHITE on the inside. '96 and '97's are <font color="#00FF00">GREEN on the inside. It's a good indicator as to the true age of a helmet, especially if the seller is acting flaky.

My DP 95 is green inside.

The dp 95 green interior was a bit later "model" of the 95. The best DP in my opinion are the white interior, which are getting harder and harder to find.

Dp 95 come in both white and green insides. Can't remember the reason. One is an earlier limited version.
    Try to get a 95 if you can. Make sure the date is from the back of the HELMET not the box. I believe some boxes say 1996 but are actually 97's. The one guy's camera is broke so you won't get a real picture. Auctions like this can get you great deals. Bit of a gamble but if it's a good price go for it! That's how I got my dp95 for 45&#36;

Yeah that's right... I seem to remember that the later '95 models (when they were switching to the 96's) were green too... The white ones are the better of the two, if you can find one.

I believe DP made more '96 boxes than helmets, so when they started producing '97's, some went into old '96 boxes. I don't know if that's the reason or not, but you WILL find '97's in '96 boxes. I have one!

Fortunately, I knew it was a '97 before I bought it!

My humble apologies, BobaFettish. I will review the rules and policies. It is never my intentions to do anything dishonorable.

Thank you all for your input.

No problem. Hopefully you find a quality helmet at a price you can afford.

As for the white/green issue, there was actually a third '95 DP helmet; the earliest of the bunch had a full length visor. Yup, the first 100 had a full visor in them rather than the half visors found on the rest of the vinyl models. After that came the sturdier white interior models followed by the green interiors which is what all subsequent ones were made out of (except for the fiberglass Deluxe). I believe Lynn was lucky enough to have owned one the first helmets.
