    Dulling down a gloss

I painted my rangefinder, looked at it 30 min. later and thought "why isn't it drying?", then I realized it was gloss black, not flat black. Is there anyway I can get rid of the shine without sanding it down and repainting?

Sure, get some testor's Dullcote and spray over it. That will knock down any shine it has.
