Looking good mate, SEE it wasnt that hard to apply the spray paint,
How hard is it to take of that ear cap? If you want I can give you an acurate one
Id sugest you use some epoxy filler to go over the Don Post stamp
It's pretty easy to take off that ear cap. And that would be nice if you could include an extra ear cap :) And with the don post stuff, i'm gonna paint it with some gold stuff
Ill send you the ear cap soon , you will need it and it will make a big difrence,
I really think you should get some spray paints at least the main colours , you can just brush the silver and grey on ,
it will make all the difference
yeah, i'll get a Green and red tomorro in the morning, they cost like $5 for a 250g can of spray paint
I think I will repaint my own '95 DP... Great start bud, just a tip, sand the visor area.
I will, Just gotta go to Mitre 10 and get some sand paper, what would be the best for that kind of job?
Update: Just sprayed on some silver as the base coat :D

Is it me or you have modified the DP? I have one of those and yours looks more accurate? Maybe it's the paint?
I noticed that to, its got a good shape (for a DP that is)I dont know if sand paper will really do the trick Id say use an exacto knife and some needle files , you can get some from a $2 shop,
Whats the mesurments of the ear cap, Ill see if Ive got one that fits ands ill send it up to you
The DP ear cap is the same as the MH, it looks he (Sgt.) casted the DP Rangefinder and Ear.
I've made no modifications to the don post, i'm lucky :D. And the measurements for the ear cap are:
Height: roughly 7cm from the top round edge to the bottom triangle thing
Width (side view): 4cm
Width (front view) 1.1 cm measured from bottom of cap.
Just thinking about what helmet is clearly the easiest to paint up. Because I don't want to try at something out of my skill range (i'm a major noob painter ha ha ha)
Do you mean whay style? Id say for your first go ESB ,all the colours arejust flat colour over colour no misting and blendingand you can
use the stencils but now Rafel has done stencils for PP2 you may want to try that, you dont need to do all the misting and blending on your first go just do flat clours,
Have you got some masking fluid , youl need it
masking fluid? what does that do? is that the masking tape stuff? if so..yes I have some
No what Jinto is talking about is this stuff Buy GRAFIX Incredible White Mask Liquid Frisket | Online Discount Art Supply Store it will help in getting that fine detailing that you need between each color layer Unless you plan to go the topical route.
What does it do exactly? Can't I just spray paint it in the normal "clean" boba style, then cut out stencils for the main scratches (then sparay). And then paint in the smaller scratches?
Looking good so far. The reason that your DP helmet looks better than most is because the '95 DP was a good year for that helmet. They look the best. As far as the masking fluid. You apply it over the silver kinda ike a stencil (where ever you want the silver damage to show through the green). Then you spray your second layer, then peel away the masking fluid. You can also use toothpaste or mustard if you're in a pinch...:) So you going with ROTJ or ESB?
I'm not sure yet..But Jinto says that the ESB is the easiest...so i'll more than likely stick to that
These are the spray paints i've used so far:

Spray enamels, should work great for layered method :thumbsup
The good old exports I know them well, but for colours stick to quality paints, those are good for primer and silver and mabey matt white but thats it
Then you should use Tamiya Spray paints like for example:
Main Green --> Tamiya America Item #85078 | TS-78 Field Gray 2 - 100ml Spray Can
Beige back --> Tamiya America Item #85075 | TS-75 Champagne - 100ml Spray Can
Dark Grey --> Tamiya America Item #85067 | TS-67 IJN Gray Sasebo Arsenal - 100ml Spray Can
Light Grey --> Tamiya America Item #85066 | TS-66 IJN Gray Kure Arsenal - 100ml Spray Can
Wine colour (mandible dark red) --> Tamiya America Item #85011 | TS-11 Maroon - 100ml Spray Can
Sand Rangefinder Ear --> Tamiya America Item #85003 | TS-3 Dark Yellow - 100ml Spray Can
I haven't tried those colours, just a guess.
Yeah, correct on the field gray, I know that much
Any painting tips for those scratches, and earpieces?
Why dont you print ut some of the ESB templates and used them as a guide,
I will, but what is a good way to get them done? the main scratches will be easy (use toothpaste and paint over top, then peel it off). But what is a good way to add in the smaller scratches?
for you, At this level Id say just paint them on over the green with a fine brush, same goes for alot of the painting
ok then :D
Looking good.....
Did you fill in the copyright stamp?
Meta,
Good luck on your paint job. Be confident... an uncertain hand can get you into trouble painting. Just remember, you can always sand it off if you don't like it.
Also, have you given any thought into filling in the 'Don Post' stamp on the back of the helmet before putting in the time to paint it?
Nah, I'm gonna keep the don post stamp there. Once i've completely painted it, i'm going to fill it in with gold paint
Lol, that's a really neat idea.
Thank you, before I primed it, I filled in the stamp to see what it looked like. It looked really cool, so I'm going to do it again once i've repainted it
*UPDATE*
The helmet hasn't received any painting since the silver coat. But, i've come across another 95 with the white interior for $40, I'm thinking of getting that so I can continue to practice before I buy a Kit.
*UPDATE* yayz!!!
Did an ESB-ish...(very ****** paintjob) on the visor area
http://i930.photobucket.com/albums/a...4/SAM_0225.jpg
I see you taping the whole thing , instead of doing that (because it damages the paint under it) tape around the area just one strip and then tape down some news paper ,Ill show you a pic tomorow
ah, newspaper around it, and two pieces of tape. That's gonna save me 80% of my tape :D
my helmet was going really good today, till I painted the earcaps...The creamy color for the right ear cap looked perfectly fin when I painted it, but when it started drying, silver spots from the base coat started showing through...and on the left ear cap...almost the same, nothing is going my way today...
Well Ive done the work on my (now yours) scratch built , and it looks pretty sweet in real life, I replaced the whole right ear set up, because when I made it I used WOFs templareaand as great as they are the ears are quite over sized , any way so I put in a set up I had spare (the lower one is acctually one of my scratch built masters for my modern ears , I took a few pics of it next to a Jango and a ROTJ helmet of mine,
the scrathy is a little bit bigger but not to much Attachment 53609Attachment 53608Attachment 53610
In the pic it has a visor and a Jango rf topper I may actual give you one of them to use as my Boba RF topper mold died and I dont know if Ill be adding a visor , but if the ones Ive order turn out to be right I wil add one
And these are your total order:thumbsupAttachment 53612Attachment 53613Attachment 53611
(begins to cry) they...they're so beautiful!
by the way, i'm not sure why but the right hand side on the jango looks a little odd? is it just me?
Yes its just you
Yours will be one of the last Fett helmets I do Im not making them or selling Fett stuff any more Ive a few more orders and then Im done with it
seriously? wow
Yep there is no fun in it any more , and its not like I make any money on them so there isnt much point
Ive got what I wanted, all I ever wanted was to have a few people have and enjoy some thing I made,
and Ive done around 30 or more, Boba helmets now so I think Ive achieved that goal
Thats a shame J, your helmet sits beautifully in my study, in all it's little ESB glory these days. I am warming to ROTJ and was toying with the idea of doing that with one of your lids, but alas, my plans may have been foiled!
There is alot to it , I do still intend to make one here and there, mabey ill just take a time out
well, I can't wait to receive them :D
Cool , Ive ot to do some of the prep to your Jango and then there ready I finished the Boba it actually looks pretty good, much better than it did with the wrong sized ears
thank you so much for this :D really excited
My pleasure!
So when would be a rough estimate of time before you can send these two master pieces off?
Remeber we had this talk 5 days ago
I thought we had it about a week and a half ago? my bad
My boba fett helmet looks more like a boba fail...i'll post pics of what i've got some time tomorrow
Its a lerning prosses , its alot harder than it looks but if you just stick at it and work on it you should be able to get it
Keep at it metadude. one of the best bits of advice I can offer, is take your time - it may end up being a long process (could take months depending on time available to you), but in that time, 99% of it should be used looking, prepping, masking, drawing on stencills etc, and only about 1% actally spraying and painting. Use a quality masking fluid (I personally feel you cant go past Humbrol Maskol - many hobby shops sell it, but I also found it in the hobby section of a Toyworld here in Perth, for $9.99 a bottle). Once you draw on your damage, take time to carefully paint on the masking fluid. Sometimes I would find I would be masking bigger layers for hours - but while tedious, it produces great results. keep on hangin in there brother!
I'm also modding a DP for my first Fett bucket. I figure it's a cheap way to learn the painting techniques, etc. and I had one laying around. Someone was overenthusiastic with the glue on the right ear cap, and in stock form it's a POS, but free is free.
seeing these pics I'm thinking maybe I should find a 95 DP for my first paint too...
Pics up within the next 3 hours :D
