    Dent filler?

Got a Fang bucket on the way to do up a custom for a friend. I'm going to fill in the dent and wondered if anyone can advise on the best product/ filler to use. Any other tips on preping, sanding etc. would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Im pretty sure everyone here will tell you to use Bondo, and i must agree. Ive been working on my first scracth buils bucket, and just started using Bondo to make the dome shape spot on. Its a great product to work with, easy to sand and shape, start with a rough sand paper and work ur way to the finer stuff, and u would never know there was a dent there to begin with =]

Bondo for the most part, yeah. I also use JB Weld sometimes, I feel it has a stronger hold to the bondo.

Just mix ur first small batch, and put it on something else, like a paper plate or something, practice with it, get a feel for the curing time. Then go for the dent =]

As a piece of advice....when you buy the bondo, since you've never worked with it before, pick up some spreading tools for it (basically flat pieces of plastic) as the ones made for working bondo are coloured to the shade your mix should be before you use it. Basically when you mix in the hardener you should end up with a light salmon colour. I've not had a chance to try it yet myself but I work in a hardware store and saw that tool set. Soon as it's warm enough to start working outside I'll be trying it out.

Bondo does harden quick if you dont mix it right. I just go with a light pink color and if you want to use a tool of some kind a cheap plastic paint scraper or a hunk of stiff cardboard will work.

Back in high school I used at least 40 gal. of bondo working on cars and trucks. After a while you get an eye for the right color.

If you plan to fill in small bubbles and make small corrections id use the (I think its called) Glaze and spot putty. It comes in a small tube. Should be next to the bondo.

I was at the auto store and I saw some bondo but didnt get any cos I wasnt sure if there was like a "kind" of bondo to get. As far as I could tell there's only an auto repair "kind". Is that the right stuff? (Sorry if this is off topic)

You want Bondo Body Filler, says it right on the can, or tube, depents on what you get.

    Yup..
there is 2 types, body filler, and fiberglass bondo (green can), just use the body filler (red can), it's what most of us here use, just check out all the scratch made buckets, most if not all are done with bondo at some point.

Make sure you rough up the area your working on well tho, it's a must... I bought a can of lightweight plastic-ish 2 part body filler for my Fang and it flaked off a day or two later because I didn't prep the surface area; I figured the heat from the chemical reaction alone would cause it to stay in place but guess not...

Bondo's great. Make sure you give it something to adhere to, otherwise you'll just end up making a positive mold of the dent.

haha, since I have limited area/resources/time, I used Billy Mays' Mighty Putty, then sanded it down for a smooth finish. This is my first project so not going for complete perfection yet.
