Mmmm...I often keep open cans of bondo lying around as well. It helps me forget my troubles...and my name...

J/K

Coming along nicely!

Wow, this is utterly amazing to watch this thing progress! I wish I had 1/10 the talent you do! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see this awesome bucket finished up!

Wow thank you. Unfortunately there is no talent though, just a lot of info and help from fellow TDHers lol

Primer did that to me too. More sanding required :(

Sanding, sanding, and more sanding. Story of my life

Alright, I got that bondo tumor off of the cheek piece.

I also took care of a few other irregularities

And some more primer

Unfortunately, you can see on the right earcap that the cardboard has sagged slightly, forming around the supports. It's unfortunate, but at this point in the build I'm just going to stick it out and hope that the paint job will mitigate the problem somewhat. I mean, this bucket is just for me anyway. It's not like I'll be applying to the 501st anytime soon haha

A closer look

I'm ok with it

There's a little bit of scratches and irregularity left, but I kind of like it. Gives it some physical damage personality

And the painting has officially begun

Now we're cookin'!

Agreed, SS (y) This is looking good.

Lots of great character. Looking forward to seeing this get to the finish line.

Keep it up.

Thanks for the encouragement. The paint is frustrating because by this stage I just want it to be finished. Must fight the urge to rush it!

Congrats! keep up the great work. I might try and sand off all my bondo tumors tonight as well

Haha that bondo is some tricky stuff!

On a different note, happy Star Wars day to everyone. May the 4th be with everybody

Yeah man, encouragement is free, and always available.

Along what you are saying, never be afraid to slow down.

And, May the 4th be with you too.

Hey I was finally able to start painting! I started with the back panels first

Once again my dark grey decided to give me issues. It came out seemingly very light, and I assumed it would darken once it dried. It didn't really, so there's not really much of a difference between the base metal grey and the dark grey. Annoying, but not the end of the world.
On subsequent parts that have dark grey, I'm going to mist the grey with a little black to make sure it's dark enough.

It's not great but it's better than my last bucket and that's all I'm shooting for.

As of now I did the silver tracing for the mandibles and key slots, and started to prep it

That should be done in the next day or two

And I really need to figure out the electronics set up so I can get the right ear and RF finished and ready to paint. If anyone knows a good resource for someone who knows nothing about electronics to help me figure out how to put in the LED and servo setup I would be insanely grateful!

Finish line is creeping up... Trying not to rush it

OH NO!

I stupidly put my earcap in my pocket when taking it to another room... And I accidentally left it there. So of course, my wife washed it...

But it is somewhat of a blessing in disguise because that earcap wasn't very good so now I'm forced to make a better one.

That snafu aside, progress is being made

Also painted the RF. Haven't pulled off the masking fluid yet though

So up next will probably be the upper cheeks and then probably the ears. I'm going to leave the cheeks and dome until last again.

I got the upper cheeks done

When I got to the dark grey layer, I had learned my lesson from earlier and misted it with some flat black to make sure it was dark enough

Got a little messed up on the left cheek, so I'll have to touch that up, but otherwise I'm happy with it

I'll do the cheeks next probably. And I still have to make a new earcap as well
