    Oct 23, 2011, 8:39 PM - Can't catch bounties with a foggy visor! #1

So yeah, I decided to test out the helmet with the visor in. Fogged up in about 2 minutes. Anybody have any long lasting anti-fog advice that doesnt involve applying some sort of coating every couple hours, or installing a fan or something? Looking for something that will last a couple parties, without affecting visibility too.

    Thanks in advance!

i have rain-x antifogging, i apply it before an event and I'm pretty good for hours. Also I left little spaces where I dind't glue the visor so air could flow, and on the "vent" area at back of the helmet, i removed the CQ boards, glued down a couple laywers of screen and it adds more ventilation.

Ah, ok. The back vent is going to stay open on my helmet. I also plan on padding the helmet so there is as much space as possible between my face and the visor.

I had issues with my V for Vendetta costume when I was putting it together yesterday. I used sunglass lenses from a broken pair of sunglasses, and hot glued em in. Those things sucked and fogged up in about 30 seconds, so i resorted to using that thin black cloth that "you can see out but people cant see in" . No fogging issues obviously, but it was pretty difficult to see out. Unfortunately I can't use that cloth for my Fett helmet though lol. V costume turned out pretty good though on a sidenote, for throwing it together in about an hour haha.

    Just for ***** n giggles

on all of the visors I install, I glue in the top & along the mandibles. I leave the bottom of the horizontal part of the T unglued. this allows air to flow through the helmet a bit better and when you do exhale heavily in the helmet, the fog dissipates a LOT quicker. here's a shot of the visor in my daughters bucket, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Hm, that could work too. Especially if I combine that with the rain-x. In most of the reference photos I've been looking at, it seems that the visor has a tiny bit of a gap between it and the rest of the helmet, so I could just use a thicker glob of glue, and leave some space for front ventilation.

    Both great ideas! Thank you!

Slight gap around the visor and keep moving. When you walk, you get air flow under the helmet. When you stand still, not so much. If I'm walking around I'm OK.

what about glueing in a small pc/heatsink fan in the helmet...like one close to each ear...i saw someones helmet with small fans in them in the "visor installation" sticky...it lookslike a pretty good idea

UPDATE: Completely forgot to buy the rain-x, but I hotglued the visor in the helmet so that there was a decent gap to allow for ventilation. I was able to keep the helmet on the majority of the night, in 30 degree weather, with no major fogging issues. Had to take it off to talk to people though, once more people showed up and the party got louder. :/ Shoulda gotten a voice amp lol
