Build your own bucket MLC pic tutorial

cool thanks a lot man.

I still would like to know if its possible to just somehow wear the helmet made out of cardboard. Like if there is something that can be put on it to make it hard

Thanks a lot for the tutorial and for giving away some precious info.

I dont think you can wear your cardboard helmet as it has inner structure....and ofcourse the dome is filled up.

What you could experiment on is by placing/brushing resin all over the helmet. Once dry, you could probably remove the inner structure starting under/below the base & moving up to the bondoed dome.
However, while you're doing this it can also break the thin resin surface - thus destroying your project.

Here's a wild but inexpensive experiment: after you're done with your card helmet, cover it up with strips of newspaper diped in water diluted white glue (paper mache). Once dry, cut in the middle & separate both pieces. Glue both pieces back together & once dry brush with a coat of resin.
Once dry, sand the resin smooth and you could probably wear your paper mache/resin reinforced bucket.

Hmmmm.....sounds like an "Art Attack", eh? :)

I understand the answer to the question of trying to use the carboard mock up as a helmet to wear. Someone earlier asked if this thread will continue on to the next steps of making a mold from the mockup and how to get that to a fiberglass or resin model.

I would be interested in this process I have made many attempts, yet have run into trouble in one step or the other. I would be interested in how to get from the cardboard mockup to the final fiberglass model

I think the tutorial is great so far, so I hope it will keep going.

Also you just mention about making the ear pieces out of bondo, but could you provide more detail on this step. Your bondo pieces look very realistic, I have tried to do this in clay but did not come close. Can you explain this process also?

Thanks in advance.

OK I took a chance and started on a carboard mockup.

As you can see the top (dome) and cheeks need to be finished. Any advice on filling in the cheeks?

You can use thin, smooth card for the cheek filler. Just connect them to the upper cheek half-circle and up to the bottom of the mandible. Any gaps or creases could be eliminated by bondo.
For the dome, use crushed newspaper or even styrofoam then bondo the top smooth.

Looking great Pastafett! :)

GOD DAMN!!!

MARDON IS AWESOME!!

Thanks so very much for this tutorial...I made an entire, dp deluxe sized helmet out of bondo but I have been putting off finishing it because it needs a lot of shaping and sanding yet...I am going to cut off the dome and use it on a new mask done your way, which will be a hell of a lot easier!!!

PDF templates available?

Are there any 1:1 scale templates in PDF format that I can download to make my own? This project sounds like a lot of fun! If one were to make the exterior out of say sentra or styrene or ever "garage sale" sign materials, and included a false top, after all the seams were securly glued, it seems that the interior armature could be removed, and the helmet actually worn? Am I missing something?

this is an awesome thread...
im with Jimbo890 arethere any templates to help us cut out own card boards? maybe someone can scan they cardboard buckets to help us newbies out..

thanks for all your hard work guys

Hey, can someone post pics of the MLC or a Riddell syle interior of a bucket, all the images for the tutorials and such are all dead, perhaps some templets or materials used. Thanx!

I concur with the above.

And in the meantime, I'll be making my blasters. Thankfully, I'm making a custom, so I won't get aggravated in following things.

alot of the tutorials images and videos are dead, I feel as if I missed out in the peek of designing discoveries :( I wish the images were hosted by TDH directly, I'd for one be down with donating some cash for more space to host images and videos.

Small problem, everyone.

I pulled this web doc up last night AFTER I posted that and found that none of the pics were saved. I think I copied and pasted the post into Word, then saved it as an html doc. But now all I have is the text.

That really sux! I don't know why it didn't save them.

Sorry to have gotten everyone's hope up. Maybe MLC still has the pics. Can someone contact him?
