BUCKET LINING HELP:

can anyone help me. I am sitting here bored in "smokey" San Diego at my wife's parents house hoping my house is'nt burnt to the ground :( staring at my ESB helmet and thought I'd ask for some help on lining. I'm on the fence about lining my buckets with foam or installing an adjustable head liner off of a face shield. when I installed the foam, it was a comfortable fit. however, 2 minutes after I had it on I started to sweat and it's 50 degrees outside. I can't imagine what it would be like at SDCC in july. sooooo, I've heard of people using a head liner from a saftey shield mask so my question for you experts is what would be the best one to use and knowing that you have to trim it, what do you trim, where do you place it and what do you use to hold it in place?? I would appreciate all the help I can get fellas. I have also considered installing two CPU fans to keep it a little cooler inside so if you want to put your two cents in about that, please do.

many thanks. (y)

B1,

I went with foam pieces and 2 cpu fans to allow my head to breathe and the air inside to circulate. Works great!

Here are some pics of the set up...

I've still to work on the servo set up and when that's done, it'll be interesting to see how i'm gonna rearrange everything in there.

Hope this helps!

Stay safe,

I velcroed in a head liner from a hard hat. Works perfectly, plus I can adjust the size and placement if need be.

i dont have a fett helmet finished yet but all my other ones, scout, stormtrooper and clone a hard hat helmet liner was what i used as well

My helmet only has a skateboard helmet foam piece in the front. I found the more foam I put around my head, the more I sweat, so I used only small points of foam on my head to keep it steady, instead of foam all the way around and on every side.

thanks for all your input so far guys, I think I might just go with the hard hat liner. any particular one or where the best place to get a good one from?

thanks/

Ben.

I used to do foam, and on my 2nd bucket I used a helmet liner. Man was I glad to get a 3rd helmet and get back to foam!! Helmet liners didn't feel that stable.

Helmet liner + foam sounds like a good idea. I like foam myself because it allows for more security. You can line the sides so they hug your head. If you just use a hard hat liner, you might get the bobblehead effect. I used foam weather stripping that you can buy to seal your windows when you install air conditioners. Works like a charm!

This thread is exactly what I was looking for too!!!

Just got my helmet back from BF, but with no padding I'm suffereing from the bobblehead effect!

Tim/Brian, your lids look ULTRA comfortable, how did you guys fix the foam onto the helmet interiors?
Hot glue?

Cheers guys,

Pauly

Pauly,

It is. :) And I used sticky velcro, so as I can remove the foam to have it cleaned or replaced. :)

Stay safe,

Tim.

I had heard that spray fabric glue works best and when I used it, it was tough to remove the foam without ripping it to shreds. spray the fabric first then the inside of your bucket. a light spray for a temporary hold, soak it for a "forget about ever getting it off again" hold. wait till it gets a little tacky then press and hold for about 15 seconds......works like a champ.
