BOX CAR RED, is this for real!!??

I used boxcar red and this is how mine turned out. You definitely had to get a bad batch or something.

The key to the Boxcar Red is the final splatter of weathering that gives the final color. Boxcar Red is just the base color. When viewing the helmet picks on Braks' site the overlapping colors can clearly be seen. I'm also kind of impartial of Rock Island Maroon (left ear scratch's red) which could have been the base color and the overlapping weathering techniques give the finished look of Boxcar red....just a theory I tossed around, but never painted a set of mandibles this way to see how it photographed. I did however give my mandibles a liberal dance with a 0000 brush dipped in Rock Island Maroon after using Boxcar Red as the base for my helmet. Again when viewed on extreme closeup you can see all of the colors going on. The first HERO ESB helmet is a true masterful work of art....all others that followed suit were merely a replication of this original master helmet IMHO.

Could you be so kind to inform me where you were able to get the paints from? Internationaly or localy?
I live in Gothenburgh..
If you have the time shoot me a PM or email me tk05180@yahoo.se

Ha dé gött..!!

All the paints are available on testors.com, but I don't know if they ship internationally, there is some hassle customs gives with paint I believe, a few months back I tried ordering MrHobby paint from hobbylinkjapan.com for an evangelion model. and they told me they couldnt send paint to the USA because of something with customs, a tax or high shipping rate or something, I'm not too sure. The polyscale paints RS has listed seem to be all for trains so I'd look for like a model train store in your area, like someone who sells Lionel trains and such.

Thats sounds like good advice to me DL. (y) Do you got any pix of your bucket you can post so I can see the way the maroon came out on the mandibles?

Okay I think I have to chime in on this one......

I will be the first to say that Rogue's paint list is SOO DEAD on(y) ....
BUT:rolleyes ...I NEVER use BOX CAR RED on ANY of my painted buckets...

The main reason is, it's way to DULL ....and the REF Pics clearly show that the RED is much more saturated and not as Dull as the Box Car Red is Straight from the bottle. As others have said it's a Great Base color(y) , but you CAN TELL that all the colors used are NOT just one color Straight from the Bottle..I think layered misting is the way to go ...SO to say the RED MANDIBLES are just one color red, TO ME , is WRONG....

Personally I use a Custom TONED down PACEMAKER RED and/or variations of the color either lighter or darker as a "weathered red" look.

I think Part of the reason that ROGUE STUDIOS mentioned that the Original Painters of the Real Fett Helmet don't remember what they used is because, LIKE ME, I do allot of custom mixing to achieve the right look.

Please , I am in no way knocking anyone who uses Box Car Red, but I just think FETT Red means "BLOOD"!!!..

Here are some recent Pictures of WOMO's MSH2 with PACEMAKER RED custom mix......THANKS ALL..

Just my two $$:p

Thanx spidy, that bucket looks amazing. The weathering looks very natural, I'd definitely want to get that effect on mine. Is that PaceMaker Red a Polyscale color?

Hey guys, I just got my Testors order (it only took 6 days!(y)) but I seem to be having the purple grey boxcar red problem as pictured below...
BoxCarRed

Can anyone tell if thats a bad mix from the picture? or perhaps an alternate color I could use in place of the boxcar red?

-Nutcore

It is NOT a bad mix....

I had the same thing when using the water based Boxcar red....

TIP..... you need to use Enamel!!!!!

Trust me, it'll make a world of difference and looks like a totally different color.

Here's a couple of pics I popped off. The end result is a blending of the colors rather than an in the face type contrast. I also used the "Dull cote" in layers also since if you use Dull cote last it makes the peice look very 2 dimensional. If done properly it will blend some while leaving other colors on the "surface"....it's more of a depth perception thing when viewing in person rather than in pics.
