So I have not got to the helmet portion of my build but I was thinking there are servos for the range finder. Instead of an RF type button what about a small spring type button made from the Borden connector. Any thoughts? I can post up a drawing of what I think it would look like if anyone is interested.

My reasoning for this is if I were making a range finder for a real helmet I would think it would be on the helmet itself.

interesting idea. keep in mind tht a button there would require you to hold your helmet in place when you push it, so essentially you's need 2 hands to push the button...unless it was a super soft touch button..but that may have issues of its own.

That said, if you make it happen, id love to see it.

Most of us have the activation switches on the gauntlet. It gives a real purpose for some of the switches/buttons on them, and i think, gives very "real" impression.

I figured as much with the gauntlet buttons. I was just thinking if the batteries are already in the helmet to get the rangefinder to go up and down. Which would mean one less battery pack to carry around.I am doing some concept drawings today since I don't have to go into work.

The thought is to add logic and a small PCB almost like the Hyperdyne Bounty Hunter Servo Controller but just a single button that makes it go up and down.

In fact that servo controller might work with it as well. I was just thinking out loud when I wrote this yesterday I will back it up with some concepts today.

I'm not dissing your idea just giving some of my thoughts on the matter..

If you have to raise your hand to the helmet to activate the servo, why have a servo controlled range finder at all? You could just lower it manually. To me, the idea of having it remotely controlled by a servo is just so you don't have to raise your hand to the helmet, just reach the switch on the gauntlet instead. If I was Fett though I'd probably have the switch on my weapon or have it voice controlled so I didn't have to let go of my weapon. But maybe that's just me.. 😀

That is a fantastic point. I was looking for that kind of response. Sometimes you think you have a great idea and end up like Americans inventing a zero G pen when Russia just used a pencil. I will still give a concept drawing here in a bit of what I would think it would look like.

So I don't think I will be prototyping the button because I don't have the servo on hand. That being said, here is the drawing of the concept please don't judge to harshly. It is a bit light on the writing sorry. I do believe this would work though, and it would take be a while to dig back out the college EE knowledge but I think I could do it.

    Thanks for the concept drawing!

I just got a little crazy idea but wouldn't it be cool to have a tactile switch inside the helmet that you can activate with your tongue. Using a resistance touch switch for instance. It could come down on an arm like a microphone on a headset.
