Bondo Nightmare!! (Sort of)

Well you live and you learn right? I've bondoed up the inside and all the nasty edges of my helmet, AFTER getting about 80% done painting it. No I did not completely ruin the paint job I have done. Just some touch up to do after the bondo dries. The best part though is that now the entire inside of my helmet is no longer lined with jagged fiberglass, but coated in a nice smoother coat of bondo.

Sorry for no pics but my sis has the digital camera with her in Germany right now.

By the way I can get a faceshield from Lowe's right?

I've never been able to find the dark green welders visors at Lowes. Usually you have to order them from a company that deals in industrial safety equipment. You can also find them on ebay from time to time.

Uhhh...maybe I did it wrong but I mixed the hardener and bondo and then applied it to the inside of the helmet and it still hasn't dried yet. It is "dry" on the surface but still soft and squishy. It doesn't stick to fingers but I can move it around. What the heck should I do? I can't put any liners inside until this crap dries up.

You put it in there to thick, bondo needs air to dry and it probably cant get in there, bondo is usualy done in steps or layers for best results, what I would do is put it down and give it a few days to dry at room temp, it will dry eventually just dont get impatient.

you can get dark green visors at either home Depot or Ace hardware, never seen them at Lowe's

I wouldn't fool with coating the inside of your helmet with Bondo.... I've always found spray on Plasti-dip to be the best for coating the inside of fiberglass. It leave the surface with a rubber coating with very little smell.

Ok ok.....I screwed up on this crap. Not going to do it again. The crud is still soft and mushy which means I didn't mix it right. I'm gonna scrape all the soft stuff out of it over the weekend.

Hey SaxeCoburg, where can I get that Plasti-dip stuff?

I've heard of people using spray in trunk/ bed liner in a can from a auto parts store. I think it's called Zolatone? The good part about it is, it stays flexable so it won't chip.
