Hi there,

it´s been quite a while since I posted a thread. A lot of important things happend during the last year (job change and birth of my little daughter), so I had to take a brake. But now I am back again and I want to show you my ESB Hero helmet which I painted during the last weeks using Raffs fantastic templates. The bucket is a bobamaker V3.

Please feel free to let me know what you think.

Thanks!

The helmet looks awesome and you did a honorable job! But... There are 2 things I can comment so far (and I don't want to sound harsh): the first is an easy fix and the other is a bit complicated. The easy fix (No. 1) covers the right ear, more exactly the missing silver band on the upper ear base and the base gray from the space between the upper and lower right ears. The complicated fix (No. 2) is about the red being too vibrant and somehow makes the other colors a bit off (which is not the case, just an illusion). I'm not too familiar with the painting process and techniques, but the paint experts might help you how to tone down a color or make it less vibrant.

The helmet will be awesome with these changes!

One of the things you can do is steel wool..... very fine 0000.....

The other thing would be to do a wash..... not too heavy......

Thanks very much for the input. I will work on it and post the pics asap. The colors look a little bit bright due to the camra flash. Also the final coat is missing, which darkens the whole thing a bit.
Thanks again and stay tuned :)

Looks outstanding man! You did a great job, looks like you've had some practice. The red still looks a couple shades too bright. May want to redo the red with a darker shade before you clear coat.

I know that it's terrible news to hear about the red color. Because otherwise, it's a beautiful paint job! I think we can all agree on that.

Hi,

thanks again for your comments. Yes, I have some practice but not in painting a bucket. I did a lot of warhammer painting for nearly 20 years. But this is my first attempt on a bucket :)
I will darken the red a little bit more an ad some weathering, too. I´ll post the pics asap.

Well your other experience payed off. Painting miniatures is a pain in the *****....Darkening that red should be pretty easy for you.

I am curious to know how you will go about darkening the red. I am close to painting the mandibles on my scratch-built helmet and would like know your technique in case my red to too bright as well.

Thx

If your using the layered method, make sure its the correct color you like before removing the masking fluid. If adding the silver topically by hand, do it before you add the other colors. This will prevent you having to go over it again to dull it down, which unfortunately will dull all the colors on the mandibles in the helmet above for example. Primarily the silver, which will look off since your mandibles will be more dulled than the rest of the silver damage. So you kinda have to even it out and dull down the entire helmet after that so all the silver damage looks balanced. Just my opinion....

On a positive note, Boba's ESB Helmet is DARK. So it'll work out. Negative possibility is how your silver will look.

Bummer after all that! But for a first helmet it's nice!

I am going to fix the red with a very thin layer of a darker red using my airbrush. I will mask everything off and hopefully start at the weekend. I will post the final pics than.

Thanks!

Hey there! What kind of paint did you use on your helmet? Im doing my first fett helmet and im unsure of what kind of paint to use. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

it´s done! After nearly three hours of masking I finished the red. I am quite happy with it :) The final coat still needs to come.
