Boba Fett Pre-Pro Eyes Paint Stencils

I originally posted this template in the ESB paint stencil thread. Rather than updating it there, I moved it to this thread.

Attached is a picture from another thread, showing the "rabbit ears" version of the helmet. Can someone post the picture of the helmet with the more visible eyes? I'm assuming that both paint schemes were on the same helmet?

    Enjoy!

EDIT: Updated the Pre-Pro Fett eye template, added a Fenn Shysa version, and added thumbnails.

Rich... I love you man! Couldn't be better timed!!! The helmet in question is indeed the PP1. We call that the PP1-Eyes, helmet as opposed to the revised and much more common PP1-Ears helmet which is featured prominently in Chronicles. The images you posted above belongs to me. I was very lucky to buy it off eBay and to date it is the ONLY image we have ever seen of this variant of the PP1 helmet. it is funny you should ask about it since I just primered this tonight... going to def go with the Eyes variation.

Oh, and yes, they just took the eyes off, tried to cover their tracks and applied the ears higher up to the same helmet. you can still very clearly see the eyes outline in the images in Chronicles... and on the Ref Guise (sorry, had to throw in a plug).

The coolest thing to me is that THIS is really the first time we see Boba Fett AS Boba Fett and not as a Super Trooper. It is a pretty big evolutionary leap in the design and look of the costume, and I love how the eyes make the mandibles look like a hawks beak. Very much a "bird of prey" look.

I really see where they were going with the Clint Eastwood inspiration from this pic.

I wonder in Boba has the door to a potbelly stove under that cape.

    Brak's,
What bucket are you using for your pre-pro build?
Also, very interested in the colors you plan to use. I'd love to attempt my own version of this helmet someday!

The helmet I am using is one that hasn't been made publicly available (no, it isn't one of Rogue Studios )

I am not doing the paint. I am lucky to have gotten the primer on the helmet. The very talented Micke, who painted a killer PP2 helmet, will be painting this one for me. I am sure he would be willing to share the colors he used once he is done.

I thought it was MARTY MCFLY that used the potbelly stove door after seeing Clint use the piece metal for the 'bullet proof vest'.

Here is a quick and very rough attempt at using Count Dookie's stencils... These are just paper, wetted and stuck on the helmet... I didn't do a real thorough job, but you get the idea..

The coloring is off in the pic but I believe it to be a green shelter half, just like the RotJ cape.

Based on the pre-pro pics I've seen, the pre-pro green cape is a shorter length than the ROTJ cape.

I too am going to have one of these helmets done. I am using a MSH1 for it. It will also be the first helmet I don't paint my self. I am having the fantastic Spidey paint mine. I think this is my 2nd favorite helmet after the PP2 helmet.

I threw this together earlier as well. I don't have it scaled at all, and I just mirrored it for the left side and replaced the missing chunk. I can give you the full thing if you like and maybe I can tweak it a bit, although there aren't any more photos of it! I just saw Dookie's now and it looks pretty good I think!

I am doing the "Ears" look. But since you can still see the eyes on it sort of I thought it fits.

I am having it painted to look more like the really saturated color look then the one that is outdoors.

This is about as good as it gets for a "straight on" back shot. And here is a left and right as well. We don't have great pics all the way around, but I think they are good enough to be able to get a pretty good estimation of it.

It always appeared to me that PPv1 and ESB are related, ditto avec PPv2 and ROTJ are related.

The paint scheme on ESB appeared to be directly pulled from PPv1, except for the right chest piece.

Colors aren't my area but I would say that is as good a call as any. I find it interesting that this appears to be the only place on the helmet that has this color. Sadly, I believe that is the only pic we have of the keyslots for that helmet.

The PP2 and the Jedi are related. The same person painted them. And while we can't prove it, there is strong evidence that the PP1, PP3 and ESB hero were painted by the same person.

We know the PP1 was the first to be painted.

It was sent as a template to the person who painted the PP2 and the RotJ (and the "Sandy" helmet).

It is unclear when the PP3 and ESB helmets were painted but I strongly believe they were painted last and possibly one of them IS the PP1, repainted, although I doubt it. The PP1 helmet is the only one that has disappeared and never resurfaced. All of the other helmets are accounted for.

Joe Johnston claims to have only painted ONE helmet, but I find this highly unlikely. I tend to believe he either painted none or three, or if he did only paint one, he had an apprentice who painted in his exact same style.

Re: Pre Pro eyes paint stencil

I was talking to Predetormv about this, but in the outside Poncho shot, they are obviously the same colors, but it just goes to show how lighing can change the Saturation of the exact same colors....I mean look at that RED...I think it gives off the same hue as what Lee (RS) recommends now...a "Caboose" color...where in some shots it looks much darker (the outside ones), yet with direct lighting or flash it changes the color completely and then becomes a brighter more saturated red...
So which one is it??...I'm confused.

I have always thought that in the back of my mind, mainly cause the painting style and colors are pretty close to the hero ESB....
good call, I think you're right.

We now have quite a selection of eyes to choose from! Below is a pic comparing different artists' interpretations of the eyes. Below that are links to each artists original files so you can make your own eyes from their templates.

Dunno... I am not painting it. :LOL I know nothing about paints and colors. I leave that to the more artistically inclined.

Just about to get the physical damage where I want it.... Trying to decide whether to put the MQ-1 and borden connector in now, or wait until after painting... i am thinking now would be the time on both of those...

Throw those suckers in there bro! The real deal was painted with all parts attached from all I can tell.

Micke is going to be handling the painting on this one. I was really impressed with his PP2 so I want to see him take a stab at the early eyes PP1.

This is an amazing thread, thanks Braks for the great pictures as you've prepped the helmet (super nice helmet too) hopefully Micke will keeps us updated as he did the PP2.

I hadn't noticed this eyes helmet before but now it's my new favorite. I expect they'll be a few requests for this paint scheme!

Not really sure what to do about the MQ-1 pad, we don't really have a nice shot of the back of the bucket

That's looking great I only wish someone were to cast that bucket so I wouldn't have to do all of that work on mine, haha.

Well, the MQ-1 is in, but I am not really thrilled with it. It is a casting (saving the real one for another project) and after building it up the way I feel it should be, it seems to me to be way too thick inside the helmet. I glued it in place with epoxy, similar to what is seen on the real thing... but something just doesn't look right to me about how thick it is.

Braks, are you referring to the over all thickness of the fiberglassing of the helmet? If so there is little that can be done for that, The real deal isn't very thick at least not compared to most fanmade buckets. If its the back of the helmet you speak of a mouse sander with extension tool will make short even work of that.

No no. This isn't a helmet issue. My helmet is fairly thin and I have already filed the inside of the keyslots quite a bit. The problem (mostly) I believe is the piece I used for the bottom of the keyslots. I used to believe the entire guts of the MQ-1 were used inside the helmet, but looking again, I don't believe that is the case. The upper half is the MQ-1 but the lower half, I believe is just sheet styrene... or POSSIBLY even a leftover piece of the visor material. The piece I used, and even the MQ-1 casting I used, I believe, are too thick and make the MQ-1 stick out quite a bit inside the helmet. Your head doesn't touch it, but I just don't like the way it looks... I'll try to take pics later tonight if I have time.

No. Seriously... I tried that Gold Bond powder stuff you recommended... but the OCD just won't go away...

Yeah, I would have to agree with you. The ESB pics I have seen do show a flat panel there where as on the ROTJ its not the case at all.

Here is a shot I took of the Keyslots showing what Art is talking about. I dont have anyshots good enough of a prepro to show that its the same deal but I would imagine it would be. It looks as though some of the circut board wasnt painted or perhaps there are more gismos in the hlelmet as you can see some unpainted stuff to the right and left of the MQ1. But I own a MQ1 and I know it is not as wide as the keyslots, there is a tiny bit of room on either side but I don't have it in front of me to check so I could be wrong. But there is indeed a flat piece of something that is only flus with the middle portion of the keyslots.

I would have to disagree with this. I believe the RotJ also more or less has a flat plate at the bottom. It does have the two knobs but I think they were just glued in place. Look behind the top one in the attached pic and you can see what appears to be a drilled and glued hole in the plate that is holding the knob in place.

While you are right that the Mq-1 doesn't fit widthwise, I don't think there are any extra circuitry to the right or left, just epoxy... although on the ESB hero there does appear to be a thin flat strip along the edge, covering the gap. See attached pic.

Re: Pre Pro eyes paint stencil

Looks bulky to me here in this pick, I would just blend my edges a bit. And I thought you said you were using a casting not the real deal... that looks like a real MQ1... either that or you found a heck of a decal!

I feel I see some details in there that make me think its the MQ1 and not a piece of plastic or fiberglass... but I could be wrong... need to look at more pics with my MQ1 in front of me.

But you are correct on the ESB shot. I think I was just seeing some glimpses of green on the right side that made me belive otherwise.

yeah, I have a decal for the inside so it at least somewhat resembles the real thing.

Very oldthread but a good one no less,
