Awesome idea to neaten things up Dom, and many thanks for getting 2 threads in there - highly appreciated! May I suggest a couple of Eric's (Superjedi's) threads to be added? He has PP2 and several ESB paint ups, that are not only amazing, but provide a very good insight for anyone wishing to do a topical, or in his words 'layer-opical' approach (I put the dollar in a jar for using the trademark there eric )...

Hey brother, awesome Idea (calling for a Sticky!). I think you should also throw up SuperJedi's work. I personally like Jayvees, but Supers is awesome too!

Quick question; what does esb, and pog, mean? Sorry working on my first scratch build and i have no clue what these abbreviations mean. I am still ignorant when it comes to the painting of my bucket. I am pretty much to the painting phase too so I figured I would ask. I live in Arizona, so American names for paint and all that please. Thanks for any help, <---- newb.

ESB is Empire Strikes Back, not sure what you mean by POG though, I guess I haven't noticed that one unless you it was a typo maybe. Pre-Pro is pre production and ROTJ is Return of the Jedi, other then that it is usually a maker that is abbreviated.

Hi Samkrow, POG is an abbreviation for a specific paint color: Panzer Olive Green.
It's a color that's available in Testors Model Master line, or Floquil's military series.
Since Floquil is being discontinued, that brand is going to become harder to find.

    Hi All,

I don't want to be 'necro-posting' but I've absorbed Jayvee's excellent ROTJ thread which seems to be cannon for airbrushers, and superjedi's comment above is something I've been running into, trying to acquire the brands/colors that were vetted "back in the day". For the slow-starters like me, has any work been done on converting tried and true colors to new brands that are still made?

    Thanks for any info!

    Cheers,

Another question I'm afraid... How much paint for a typical helmet? I am looking to paint my own RotJ lid and many of the floquil colors used by many here are hard to find; I'm wondering how much may be needed, mostly to decide if I should use the bits I've gathered to make swatches for duplication via spectrometer with some current brand. I'm hoping the legendary painting gurus of TDH will have some rule-of-thumb guidelines.

I think I got the answer:

    Quote Jayvee said:
Hi Rob, more than happy to help out anywhere I can mate!

The Floquils realistically, I generally only need the one bottle per colour. This may change if you're doing heaps of colour testing, but overall, one bottle should be plenty.

As for the humbrols, yeah, the tins are indeed quite small. I usually make it a rule to go for 3 tins for areas with greater coverage (like the dome and cheeks, so the greens and silvers), and two tins for smaller coverage areas. It may be a bit more than necessary, but that's always better than running out. The only thing I will add though, is that Humbrols are readily available in every hobby shop over here, so I can easily grab another tin when necessary whenever needed. I only say this, as if you are ordering online, you may want an extra tin of the bigger colours here and there to be on the safe side, incase you are testing or have some spills etc...

The other thing with the humbrols, is I always make it a rule to shake the tin vigorously, open it and stir with a toothpick until it's all consistent, put the lid back on and shake again. The paint can accumulate at the bottom of the tin a bit if they have been sitting for a while, so this always tends to help.

Anything else I can do, don't hesitate my friend!

    Many thanks,
    Johnny
    Thanks Jayvee!!!
