Boba Fett helmet advice for a newb

Ripcode

Well-Known Hunter
I have a Rubies Boba Fett helmet I bought earlier this year, but bought it with no intention of using it as a wearable item. I bought it because I collect Boba Fett toys.

I want a good Boba Fett helmet. Something that will be wearable, as I have decided to give building a Fett costume a try for myself.

I want one that will look correct.

Where do I start and how much can I expect to spend?

I will be doing my own painting.

Any and all advice appreciated! :)

$1000.00 and at least 6 months of work for starters. Hope I did'ent scare you! ;) If your serious, your in the right place. (y)

Yeah, I'm still a newb here but one thing I've found out so far is that everything I buy tends to cost on average about $100. I've been trying to sell stuff on ebay to use as a budget for my fett costume. I've needed a new hobby, and this one really lets you develope new skills.

As far as the helmet goes. I picked up a Don Post '95 on ebay for about $80. I bought it because the veterans here have stated the DP 95 as being the more accurate of the cheaper helmets. It's a good starter helmet and great first paint project.

Check E-bay, Marrow sun Helmets and Mystery Helmet are suposed to be good, I´ve seen Mystery Helmet and it looks realy good. I myself have a MSH2 but I don´t think you they are available, some one correct me if I´m wrong.

I went through 3 helmets before I was happy.First I got a cheap one from Down under and that was not good. Then I got an MLC, that was a good helmet, wel built and strong but to big. Then I landed the MSH2 and that one is the best I´ve seen.

Check around before buying to so you will not end up with a pile of helmets.

The 1000 bucks might even be modest if you buy everything "off the shelf" so to speak. Spend some time using the search engine on this site and you might be able to come up with some really inexpensive alternatives that might work well with some effort.

For instance -

Check out this armor afettfullofdollars made of a trash can- No joke! and it turned out great-

If you find creative things like this you can save some money for the things that you don't want to build yourself. I'd start making a list of the pieces and parts you'll need and start searching. Good luck!

I know a good Fett costume will not be cheap. I will not skimp on quality or authenticity.

However, I'll start with the small stuff and work up to the big dollar items.

I'll do as much as I can, and plan on researching this site until my eyes fall out.

I feel I'm in good company here! :)

For a good helmet, expect to spend anywhere from $80 for a good Don Post '95 (a bit on the small side), to $200 for a Mystery Helmet Kit. You can spend more on other versions, but be wary of some sellers on eBay. There are some threads here showing disasterous results from eBay.

Personally, I'd recommend a MHK, since you're doing your own painting. A great kit, and a wonderful helmet.

Okay. So where do I find a mystery helmet kit?

I would recommend you building the Rubies to get "practice", then sell it on ebay when finished. Then get a fiberglass one from one of our fellow Fett brothers (MS or BM) and you'll be ready to do your masterpiece. ;)

i second the notion of a practice helmet if you can swing it.

my first helmet paint job came out ok. not great, but not bad. my second one is WAY better. i sold off the first helmet to raise some $$ for more boba parts, so it all came around in the end.

be REALLY wary of the ebay mystery helmets. particularly amidafilter (or however it's spelled). that particular one is servicable with some work, but is really poorly made.

Well I'm already in the process of purchasing a fiberglass helmet kit..... :D

I do have some previous painting experience with military models and such. So I think I will do okay. I'm by no means, an expert painter butI think I will do okay.

I will however keep my Rubies and use that for test techniques and such!

I am REALLY new to this hobby, but it sounds cool, so im gonna give it a go. so first off what is the most durable material to make a helmet out of besides metal? i found a "mystery" helmet, but i was told to watch out for "amiadfilter"....so where/how do I start?! much apperciation to any help.

Oh my god, NEVER order from amidafilter...EVER! I ordered one from him and got screwed. He was descent enough to offer to give my money back (which he still hasn' tdone yet) , but seriosuly. STEER CLEAR of amidafilter. Check out this photo of an amidafilter helmet. And mind you, HE SENT IT TO ME LIKE THIS!! I have nothing to do with the damage.

and one more question (sorry), I know the rubies helmets are...(crap) but how about the jango helmets...they seem to look better than the boba model, and they seem pretty cheap also. see, i'd like to build a jango as screen accurate as possible, but its also on a tight budget (i can afford a good helmet, MAYBE some gauntlets...but after that, i'll resort to trash can armor and other cool little tricks).

For the helmet I'm going to add just a little 2 cents.

The helmet is the KEY. The paint job on it is vital. All the components of the suit accentuate to the helmet. Focus is always centered on you helmet. Just like you dont talk to someones thigh. You look at their face. A well painted helmet makes a suit even more incredible...just MHO...

I agree. Helmet is by far the most important part. I've seen fett's with GREAT armor, but they look cheap and shotty because they are using a Dp 95, or 97 or something. (no offense to those with those helmets). And Rubie Jango fett helmets are a little better than the Boba. I for one own one. I use it as my testor helmet. I test things on it and try to get good at different skills on it.

i also agree which is why i want to spend my big money on the detailed pieces of the suit. if i had a welder i'd prolly start on a metal helmet, but alas i lack metal fabrication devices so i am stuck with plastic and fiberglass.....*sigh* anywho i FINALLY joined this forum...been viewing for the last month and i must say it is the finest in the land.

so any pointers or cheap trick u would be willing to share?
