BM Helmet Sculpt

The measurements seem fairly close. It might be the size of the arrows (appear too large and slightly out of place) and the size and shape of the dent, which looks quite a bit different from the real dent, that is distorting the distance.

Here's a close up of my dent, the angle isn't exactly the same as the reference but it shows it pretty well, I have already started to smooth out the creases a little to match the ref picture.

Here's a close up shot of my triangles with the measurements, I'm confident that these look better in close up.

Finally, Here's my finished sculpts for the new Hollow RF and Stalk. The RF is a lot more accurate than previous and they attach together perfectly, they hold even without glue. This RF now has more space inside for placing LEDs, batteries etc. and is extremely easy to put together. I can supply different colour lenses, depends what people prefer, yellow, semi clear, dark etc.

I am hoping to offer a choice of Hollow RF and Solid with the kit, does anyone need hollow, especially with most of the LED kits now being self contained within the RF?

I just need to finish the Mole and do a little more clean up on the helmet and it's ready to mold. I am hoping to mold it this coming weekend. Any more constructive criticisms will be appreciated so I can make any adjustments before it's molded.

BM are you going to offer the new hollow rangefinders separate?? I have one of the old ones, but these are definitely new&improved :D !! If so shoot me a PM for pricing. Hopefully there will soon be a good source for self-contained rangefinder kits.

Here is a better comparison against the real dent. The ESB dent has a ton of paint and weathering that distorts its appearance.

Hmmmmmmm,

The BM dent bears a striking resemblance to an MSH2 dent if I am not mistaken.

Hmm, seems someone has recasted my aluminum rangefinder post without asking my permission first:angry

How about a closeup of "your" post.

Why would he do that? If he can make a helmet that looks that good why bother buying one of your posts just to copy it?
Its a pretty basic part, jointing it straight to the RF is an obvious step forwards.

As for the dent looking like the MS2 dent, well of course it will, these 2 helmets are supposed to be the most accurate representations of the real thing, what did you expect? the dent to be pig shaped and on the back?

I have to say after that after reading this post and the one in the Sarlacc Pit, I am in agreement with Evilution. It would seem a exceptionally stupid thing for BM to start a thread about a sculpt he is producing knowing full well that other members of the site would immediately recognise their own work.

I feel that perhaps that all those flying off the handle and turning this into a witch hunt should at least have the courtesy of allowing BM to comment before burning him at the stake.

After all, are we all not singing off the same song sheet with regards to the original reference material i.e. The original screen used helmet?

Funny you call it a witch hunt because I have talked to some of the parties involved and have been talking to them for a while whom have said in the past that they recognized their stuff and have PMed him about it before with no resolution in the matter.
It just appeared that it has now gone too far.

Ironically this is exactly what i did last weekend doing.. hollowing out the hollow RF from BM to fit a lens into it... DOH!

Well all I know is I sold Bobamaker a post a few months back & now he has one that has been changed ever so slightly. Why would he buy one of my posts if he could make his own?

Evilution,

You WOULD have a point except for one small issue; the dent on the MSH2 is horribly inaccurate as demonstated by tyler's post (post #27 in this thread). Oddly enough, bobamaker's dent is inaccurate in almost precisely the same way which suggests he either copied the msh2 dent or used it as reference and did not use the real helmet as reference.

I've attached a labled version of the comparison picture above.

The MSH2 is not the most accurate representation of the real thing. It's a well-constructed helmet, but it represents an idealized or "minds-eye" interpretation of the ESB helmet.

It seems strange that Tylers post shows a dent supposedly from the ESB helmet that doesn't look like the dent in the shots I have posted. These are photographs of the original ESB helmet from an exhibition, and the ROTJ Helmet from Lucas Archives.

The dents on the MS and BM helms look remarkably similar to the original props if you ask me.
