Apr 26, 2014, 6:09 PM - black markings on the Celebration IV helmet #1

The black marks below the dent and intermingled with the first few kill stripes seems to be some kind of tar? Does anyone have the skinny on this, and what has anyone else used to replicate these marks? I was thinking of trying some butyl weatherproofing tape that I have lying around and splotching it on in small bits. Help is much appreciated!

I use Pollyscale BlackGreen, but any gloss black paint would work.

I'd say they're pure black, and it's a very thin layer. Not tar or anything
having any thickness. However, that is damage that happened after filming.
Those black marks aren't present in screen shots from ESB.

If it's there in the SE promo shots then it must be damage that happened sometime
between the filming of ESB and the filming of the additional scenes for ROTJ:SE.

Yea i agree that showed up sometime after ESB was filmed. There is a bunch more damage on it in any shots of it post ESB as well.

There was a thought that these extra marks and scratches were the result of at least 2 ROTJ stunt helmet casting somewhere between ESB and ROTJ.

Great thoughts guys. Thank you! I agree with Fett 4 Real, It looks like some kind of adhesive. To me it looks like it may have some thickness in spots because there is some rusty looking 'dust' or residue which has collected on them. Maybe it's my eyes playing tricks, but it looks slightly lumpy to me in spots. Either way, Thanks guys for the suggestions and thoughts

Most likely our trusty hands at Lucasfilm man-handling it with the utmost care...a.k.a. using it as a makeshift bowling ball at the local alley.

Had to have rubbed up against a darker prop. Dirty adhesive also seems like a good possibility too.
