    BKBT CC Boba

Hi guys. Just wanted to share a little Boba helmet project I've been working on in hopeful anticipation of soon joining the Boba ranks here. Most of the thanks for this feat goes to Devilstar2k2, who is helping me out tremendously and making sure I get pointed in the right direction.

For my suit, I decided to try and convert a BKBT Jango cold casted fiberglass helmet. I know it doesn't meet the standards of screen perfection, but I'm having fun. Plus I want to be able to say I made at least one item of my costume.

For the dent, I first cut a hole in the dome where I thought the dent should be, then sculpted a dent from clay from underneath, molded it in silicone, and casted that area again. The dent was a tad undersized, so I hit it with some files, exacto knives, sandpaper, and emory boards for the final result. It's still not great, but I'm satisfied because this morning as I was doing some final filing on it, my 5 year old daughter came up and asked why I was "making a dent in it".lol As long as she knows what it is, I'm happy.

As for the rest of the helmet, I followed AFFOD's lead on trimming a little off the back below the keys and around to the ears. I also opened up the visor area where the eyes are by 1/8", but will probably open it up another 1/8" to 3/16" and round off the edges closest to the visor a tad. I'm also going to try casting a clear Jango rangefinder to convert into an ESB Boba rangefinder.

I'm not sure what to do about the borden connector. So any advice on how to best make one or where I can pick up a replica would be greatly appreciated. Once that's figured out, I'll be shipping it off to Devilstar2k2 for paint (once again, thanks bro ).

Any suggestions and constructive criticism is very welcomed. Just please keep in mind I'm not shooting for uber-perfect screen accuracy like so many of you have achieved with your own parts and suits, and in which your end results are amazing. As a Boba noob, I greatly admire all of your guys' dedication to this suit.

    Cheers,
    Cruzer

Man u know I think it looks dang good...size wise and shape wise it looks just like a Boba Helmet compared to the asok helmet. Think its gonna work out just fine and no need for a base coat of silver

That is freaking sweet! have u added the little flared out peice on the lower left back side of the side burns that that sits next to theear peice cant think of a good way to describe it, that would be an esentual part if missing. i guess the part on the right cheek u r refering to the borden conector im sure some one would be more than happy to pass one your way

I don't know the origins of BKBT's Jango helmet inspiration, but I think this comparison shot is "telling" based on how similar they are.
Ok, I just ordered part # 121T from this website for the Borden connector because they're in California and so am I, so I figure I'll get it quickly. I hope it's the right part:

That is exactly what I was thinking but the BKBT helmet is alot bigger than the asok helmet and FP Jango as well...perfect for this, Makes me want one...=)

Very nice seeing as you have tetached the lower jaw line panels you should make the right mandible were it meets the uper cheek to the lower cheek you should make that part come to a point(Like on the middle pic but on the other side the curved panel should come to a sharp basicly the lwer cheek meets the outer mandible = once a gain i dont think i v described it right but you seem to be going the whole way now so it would be a sham to mis that

Hey, I still have my 'polaroid' window from the MR helmet's RF... I took it off when I converted it to ROTJ. I'll tape it to the inside of your helmet when I send it back to you.

You wearing this in the parade? If the kid comes early, and we have help, I'm going to try and get Jango up there. If we're on schedule, I'll be at work.

If my son decides to troop the parade then he'll be wearing it, and I'll get to wear the Tusken. Having you there as Jango would be awesome, but your family definitely takes priority.

Borden connector arrived a few days ago. I've never seen one of these things up close, but it looks like it's the right size.

Looking good bud, although I think you'll need to cut the front shaft off as the holes are reversed.

lol...I didn't even notice until you mentioned it, thanks.
Ok, here it is trimmed and ready for a glue on installation.
I hadn't noticed before, but it appears to be some sort of brass that had a nickle plate.

WOW!!! It's more than I could have asked for, and the fact that you painted that up in just under a week is amazing! I can't wait to add it to my headless Boba mannequin! Thanks bro, it looks awesome.

Thanks slave1pilot for the pic, I'll probably just drop a little CA glue to close up the hole that is supposed to be the smallest and then follow up with drilling a little hole in it...unless you can recommend something better.

Actually, I yanked a couple of the pics down... I'm not happy with the whole back right panel. Do you think we have time before your troop so I can go over it again?

I sent ya a PM to discuss it.

    Re: BKBT CC Boba

Thanks... I usually do ROTJ's... I always have trouble with the back right panel of ESB's. Guess thats the price I pay for doing it by hand. I'm gonna pick up an airbrush kit and try stenciling from now on. I just think it looks nicer and is more accurate. Luckily, this wasn't an accuracy bucket.. It was a speed bucket... lol... In and out of the door in a week flat.

I'll be dropping a thread in the cargo hold very soon if you are interested? brass made Borden's (nickel plated) with the correct sized holes...
These are to go with the New lid from Chris (FP)

If I do another one for Cruzer, I'm gonna paint it like I did my old one. I suggested ESB, I have no idea why I didn't do ROTJ... I'm better at those.

    Re: BKBT CC Boba

Not to hijack the thread too much, but heres my old BM helmet... I liked the bucket alot, but had a hard time getting it on my head with the MQ1 in it. Yup, I know its the wrong RF, ordered for ESB then changed my mind. Figured I'd replace it later, but I didn't even have it long enough due to my gigantic melon. Also, this was my second ROTJ, and I overlooked the red on the non-rf ear. I think I have these down now though.

Cruzer, Like I said, I'll do one of these 'on the house' for ya when you finish your new conversion, bud. Check PM's when you get a minute, I know you're busy painting right now.

    EDIT-

Just found a pic of my sons halfway converted repainted ROTJ Jango? Whatever, its his play helmet. =P
