Asok builds his ultimate GMH!

As some have read, I have bough the molds from FP for the GMH helmet and wondered what was I going to do with it.

If you are wondering what a GMH helmet is, please read these two articles done by Art Andrews about the history of the helmet and the work that FP put into the helmet
Boba Fett Costume Resource - The Grant McCune Boba Fett Helmet
Boba Fett Costume Resource - First Sons – Boba Fett Preproduction #2 Helmet Progeny

First a little about why I am doing this project the way that I am. In a galaxy far far away, right before lunch, I had always wanted a helmet that I did not need to painted silver or spend hours sanding the inside of it smooth. So, I bought the Budget Boba molds and started on my way. And then, I was able to buy the GMH. And it was sort of like the cherry on top! I looked a little like this --> :love and my girls looked like this  when they saw me.

So, what are my plans you ask..... Cold Cast baby! From the helmet to the ears! When it cast the helmet it will be with a layer of cold cast and then 3 layers of roto resin on top of that. I know lots of people want it to be fiberglass and I get that. The problem is that the resins used with fiberglassing that I have worked with keep reactivating the cold cast layer. I am still looking for a resin that I can fiberglass with will not mess with the cold cast. This is how I did my fist Jango helmet back in 2008. I still troop in it with no problems and it is not warped at all!

Right now I have the first helmet cast and I have started to trim it up as you will be able to see in the photos. The rest of the molds are on their way and I will post more photos when I get stuff cast up and ready to show.

The big question is: what's would come in a kit?
  • Cold cast GMH
  • Cold cast ears (4 parts)
  • Solid aluminum range finder stalk
  • Resin MQ-1
  • 3 part range finder
  • Been thinking of adding the chin cup if I can find the right one.

What more info, please email me at email.jpg

So, here are my progress photos. I stand it just a little on the right and none on the left. If it's to smooth and shinny the paint will not stick. What do you think?

The ears are just tape in place and yes, they are cold cast.

This is the RF I give in my Budget Boba kit. The ear for the GHM is a little different. To make it fit the best, I trimmed the one on the right to make it fit. Just a little trimming with a drimel was all it took.

Great news Asok, I love the idea of the Cold Cast GMH. I like Resin better, I have a lot of experience with it and it's pretty easy to work with in all respects.

What is the rf going to be like, the same one that you sell with your other lid?

For the price, drop me an email at asok@187thlegion.com My kit will cost more but it will have the RF, Solid aluminum range finder stalk, and Resin MQ-1 that the one that FP did not come with.

I have most of the molds now. That is why you don't see more parts in my post.

The RF will be the same one that comes with my budget helmet.

I'm so excited about this. If this is as good as your Budget CC I'm gonna be well pleased. Just placed an order. Brilliant.
