Another scratch made bucket

just checked out this thread for the first time and im totally amazed...fantastic work on this...can't wait to see it finished

Thanks for the kind words as always guys, but as they say... practice makes perfect. Seeing as this is my third build, I've had some decent practice. ;)

The visor is held in with chicago or boston screws that I got at Home Depot in the screw/fastener aisle, they basically thread into themselves ( does that make any sense?!? :p ). I'll see if I can't post some pictures.

The half that has the internal threads is glued into the helmet by the flange on the back, then the visor ( with it's pre-drilled holes ) is inserted and a filler/washer is sandwiched over top, then the final half of the screw assembly is threaded in place. I used/elaborated on a visor mounting method that another TDH member posted a thread on some time ago. ( if my horrible memory serves me correctly, I think that it might have been Spideyfett? )

Here's the screws and the spacers I use. The spacers are plastic washers for kitchen faucets.

New to the site, and my first post!

Jango72, that is truly impressive! I read this thread (among others) all the way through and am just so inspired. The folks on this site are tremendous. Thanks for sharing...can't wait to see your sons face on Halloween!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the read, and I'm always willing to share tips, tricks and techniques.

On a side note, I never said that the third helmet ( the most recently posted one ) was for my son. It's for another 5 year old that's been working so very hard on a Jango costume. ;)

Speaking of which, here's some updated pics of that helmet. I'm finished with the primer now, as the ear cap and RF stalk didn't have any in these pics. I'm starting on the paint as we speak and then this helmet will be packaged up and shipped out on Friday. The part that really freaks me out the most though, is that this helmet weighs in at a mere 1 pound. (y)

Danke Digifett.

I'll have pictures of the helmet with full paint up shortly, as I've already got both blues applied and am now rub-n-buffing my little heart out. The helmet is being boxed up and shipped off to Minnesota on Friday, where it'll finally be in the hands of an anxious 5 year old.

Beautiful work!! He is going to love it! I would love to see the pics of the kids wearing their Fett outfits.

Since you have done a number of helmets now is there anything about the templates that I need to changes or suggestions to make them easier to use?

What size (%) are you using for the kids helmet? I was considering developing a couple of different size templates one or two for the kids and definitely one for the larger Fetts out there.

Been following this thread and I just gotta say that this is one sweet build! Great work Jango72! And you're son is a lucky kid! Awesome! Can't wait to see these babies all painted up!

Thanks for sharing!

Stay safe,

Tim.

Jango72, this is an inspiration for me. You, like digifett, have got some great tips here that I'm using for mine.

I, personally, have found that with mine, I had to trim a little off where the upper cheeks connect to the face. But, the templates are wonderful and I'd rather have to cut than add.

Jango, didn't you say you just resized the printout for your son's bucket? That seems to me to be the easiest way to go.

Great job!

David.

Thanks as always for all the kind words guys. It makes all the hard work I've put into these helmets well worth the look on the faces of the kids that they are for. ( myself included. ;) )

I did re-size the templates for the kids, and I found that @85% works the best. If you bring it down to 75%, it'll be way too small. ( 75% would fit a baby or a cabbage patch doll )

Here's a few pictures of the almost finished helmet for, in case you all hadn't guessed it yet, Jedimite. It's just missing the pin-stripes, which I'll add before it's sent off later today.

The colors aren't the proper ones as I couldn't find them any where. I personally think that the lighter blue is too light a shade, but the contrast with the darker blue is nice. I'm sure that she'll like it just the same.

Here's the first light blue that I shot onto the helmet. I like it a lot, but felt that there wasn't enough contrast between the two blues. I'd really prefer this color, just a hair brighter.

So enjoy your very own personal, custom-made, Jango helmet Jedimite. May you have many great days trooping in it. :)

It was my pleasure, I enjoyed making this helmet. I just wish that the dome came out smoother as the rub-n-buff shows every little dimple I missed. Before I add the pin-stripe and box it up, do you like the light blue or do you prefer the darker shade of blue on the mandibles as seen in the bottom picture? I can easily alter it.
I will be ready with the camera as she opens the box! We can't wait!!! Thanks for all your hard work.

I didn't quite make my Friday deadline for shipping the helmet off to Jedimite as I came home with a massive migraine last night. I took two extra strength Advils for migraines and crawled into bed for about 6 hours. :confused

I got up around 10:30pm and seeing as I was feeling much better, I finished up my tweeks. While I was unconscious, my wonderful wife re-masked the cheeks for me. ( thanks again hun. ) I only had to mask off the remaining parts so I could re shoot the darker shade. Seeing as it's Jedimites helmet, I went with what they wanted. ;)

I took a couple of pics this morning before finally boxing it up. I can't wait to see the look on Jedimites face when she opens her package on Friday. (y)
