Another scratch made bucket

**Update!!**

I finally finished with the poly eurethane on the dome, and shot some primer so that I could see things better. I'm still not fully satisfied as I've found a few spots that still need some minor work. This is one of those times that I really hate being picky. :p

I've got my final visor installed now, complete with chicago screws ( boston screws to some ) so that it can removed easily. I think that one more session of tweeking the dome should do it, then I'll shoot the final coat of primer.

Now I'm turning my attention on constructing some gauntlets. ;)

Here's what I hope will be the last batch of pictures before I start applying the rub n' buff and paint. I've got some side projects on the go as well, I've got to get my sons helmet finished up and start on another kids sized, and two sets of kids sized gauntlets. Should be some happy 5 year olds this Halloween. (y) ;)

Now, on with the pics...

Thanks guys, that really means alot to me.

I've already started on resizing WizardofFlights templates to make a more accurate ( better looking ) kid scaled version. At 75%, the rangefinder looks soooooo cute!!

I've already begun work on the new kids sized version, so I'm gonna pretty busy from now until Halloween... but I'm loving it!! I'll be sure to post progress pics if I get the chance, but they might have to wait until after Halloween.

Thanks for all the great replies guys, and thanks to you as well Rob. Without your build up thread over on Mando Mercs of yours and your sons helmets, I probably wouldn't have pressed on and finished mine to the stage it is now.

I owe a lot to the other members here on TDH, as I took ideas, suggestions and inspiration from all of their projects.

Cheers!! :cheers

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm currently in the middle of a scaled down helmet build.

Looks Great! What thickness of sintra are you using? Going to get mine started this weekend after I finish playing with WOFs templates.

Rytil.

I didn't use SINTRA to make mine... I used 1.5mm thick plastic sheet for the main structures.

I didn't use SINTRA as I had the plastic sheet on hand and I'm more skilled with it through constant practice. Once you've got a favorite material, you tend to stick with it as you know what to expect, and how to work it.

You know Alan's templates were originally hosted here.

I appologize if that statement didn't come across clearly.

What I meant was that I found Ghostsoldiers tutorial/buld thread over on Mando Mercs very useful, however I got the templates from TDH.

Sorry for any confusion caused.

Hello,

Just checking in. This really coming great!! I really love the visor attachment, clean and simple - the helmet is an excellent job!

Could you pm me the link to Ghostsoldiers tutorial/build thread from Mando Mercs forum I would really like to take a look at it.

The helmet templates are developing a life of their own I have lost count on how many scratch build are going on. I may have to start a thread to get everyone to post their scratch builts.

Alan

Cheers Alan, your templates are certainly the hit of countless many. :cheers

Here's the link to Ghostsoldiers thread over on Mando Mercs, it served as inspiration to kick my butt into gear when i felt llike the job was insurmountable. ( in laments terms... when ever I felt that I just couldn't finish it, seeing his success/build gave me the willpower/courage to get back at it )

Thanks so much for the compliments, guys...but it was a "mutual inspiration" effort, actually...Jango72 helped spur me along also, to get my bucket completed...(y)... Alan...keep in mind I have not posted the build for the right ear/RF yet...between work and college, I'm having a heck of a time keeping up with all my projects...but, I promise to finish the tutorial, chiefly because I don't like the idea of starting something and not finishing it...:)...I was the victim of the "trying to get it done before DragonCon" syndrome...but now that's past, I'll try to finish it (my youngest son's helmet still needs the right ear and RF assembly added anyway...)...

It's been awhile since I last posted an update on my builds, so I figured that I'd throw up a few pics so you all could see what I've been cooking up. ;)

I last mentioned that I was starting a scaled-down version, and here's a sneak peek at what I've accomplished so far...

This helmet was printed out at 85%, and it fits my 5 year old son perfectly.

The bottom of the helmet and the base of the dome are both made from hardboard/wood for strength.

It has the same functional bits as my full size, with the addition of rare earth magnets to hold the right ear cap on. I've still got some gap filling on the ears to do, some additional fine tuning on the dome, and the brow triangles to make. Then it's eurethane time followed by primer then paint. (y)

Hope you like my latest version. I've got to get back to work though, as I've got an anxious 5 year old waiting for this helmet to complete a costume for Halloween.

Cheers! :cheers

You know, I have been looking around for a while and i have never seen a better scratch-built. Incredible! MY FRIEND YOU HAVE A MASTER WORK REPLICA ON YOUR HANDS! Keep the pics coming
