I've been working on this for quite some time. I decided to make an RF top which is more robust than resin or plastic card whilst remaining light weight, also with maximum space for electronics.
So from a pattern i've formed 0.8mm alloy into the RF top, the joins are keyed internally and glued and the main area is lined with 0.8mm plastic card to thicken it up visually. Then the holes are drilled and a slot cut in the bottom for stalk attachment. The slight grooves left from scoring/folding around the RF body are filled before the whole top is sanded to a smooth finish. The clear section is cast in resin then wet flatted including a bevel which allows mrg8ness LEDs to be fitted. Three 1.5mm holes are drilled as in the reference pictures. I've joined these two parts with rare earth magnets. The polaroid view finder is cast in two parts, using black resin for the body and clear for the lens. Here are pictures of the set up:

Forgot to mention stalk attachment. I will supply in the kit two 3mm threaded studs 10mm in length, you just need to drill two 3mm holes 5mm deep into the top of the stalk as long as they are in the centre spacing is not crucial as you have a slot for them to fit into on the underside of the RF body, these come with nyloc nuts for a secure fit...

If you look at the last picture the polaroid parts are in the foreground, these are glued onto the RF clear section.

The hardware supplied is for stalk fixing, the last pic at the top shows how i fixed one of my cold cast stalks to the RF top. The threaded stud is 10mm long x 3mm so i drilled two 3mm holes 5mm deep and glued them in place. Then the nyloc nuts hold the RF in place, i used needle nose pliers to tighten them. A neater solution would be to tap the threads into the stalk which will give you more options as the studs can be tightened with an allen key...

Excellent craftsmanship on these RF toppers. Lightweight and sturdy. I am very happy with mine. They do fit the mrgr8ness LED boards just fine and have some room to spare, but I don't have any pictures to post. Can't find my camera.

Hi Scott, you may have to push the two red LED's towards the board slightly and angle the board so the white LED sits where the bevel is on the clear section... hope that makes sense?

I was actually hoping to see the RF OPEN(not attached to the helmet), with the board inside, and how the board sits. I was trying to fit it inside, it i'm hesitant to use too much force, and then end up breaking the LED board.

I'll see what I can do. I have a MRGR8NESS board and had no issues. Clear portion held with magnets.....Nice fit. No pressure on LED's.

Do you have to ned the LEDs in any direction first? Also what do you do with the green led? Won't it stop the white polariod lens part from fitting into the metal RF cage itself?

Here's a quick sketch of how i fitted PEEL1965's light board. You will have to bend the red LED's cathode and diodes slightly to lower the overall height of the board ( i bowed them outwards so they don't touch ) , the white led will need to be tweaked also and then it should pop into place. Please let me know how you get on...

I have updated post 1 with pictures showing the modifications for fitting mrgr8ness's light board. As well as pushing the red LED's down and the green LED side ways, you may also need to file a slight bevel on the leading edge of the battery carrier. These are all simple mods and allow the board to be popped in and out quite easily, i hope this helps.

I received my RF today AND my led lights and I must say the craftsmanship that goes into these are awesome. I spent 20 minutes looking at the RF to see how he made it and it looks like it was casted as one piece,simply beautiful. The lights from mrgr8ness are beautiful bright and totally compliment this. Like they said a little tweaking and they do fit. Well worth the money , and I encourage everyone to get a set of these. Great work guys.

) the LEDs must be squashed back into the board...(both red and green LEDs). Then it will fit purrfect..

The LED board is very robust and seems can take a lot of 'fett' handling...

I can start mounting the components a little different for people using TF's topper. The components can take a little tweaking with no troubles, as long as your gentle with them.
