Air Brushing

Anyone have recommendations for air brushing equipment? I have a dewalt compressor and saw a "fine" detailing air brush kit at Home Depot, not specifically for hobbies. I went to a local hobby store who sold a badger brand air sprayer for 5 times the amount.

Is the one from Amazon (which looks perfect!), able to be connected to a standard air compressor? I've never used my compressor for something like this.

From what I've heard as long as you use a regulator and a dryer/ moister collector you can use nearly any kind of compressor, and of course a hose with the fitting connectors.
The main difference between an airbrush and regular compressor, except for the power, is the noise generation.

There are alot of kits out there with the brush and compressor together. Iwata and Badger are great brands. Ive heard some professional airbrushers like to use dual action, brushes with gravity feed cups.

this is what i put on my line to hook to my compressor. I also installed a water separator, Husky is the brand from Home Depot, on my air compressor.

Here is a picture of the connector and water separator

Saw this at the store today. Almost bought the whole kit, I was concerned with the limitations of the width of spray, didn't get much smaller than 3/4". I looked at the kit on Amazon, that seems to be pretty solid. But if I already have a compressor at home, thought it'd be silly to buy a whole kit. Which brings me back to the amazon kit with the line filter from either Lowe's or Home Depot.

I actually use an old cheap testors brand air brush I got for 15 bucks. It uses cans instead of air compressors and it lasts quit a long time. I can usually get about the equivalent of 20 min spray time from a 16 oz can.

I went out and bought a badger, followed by a grex compressor. For the amount of painting involved, buying the cans just wasn't going to be economical. The Grex compressor is awesome, and has a great shut off feature for when you're not spraying. So it's quiet, and has the ability to adjust pressures quite nicely! Highly recommend! I can see the need for a gravity feed airbrush, BUT not in my experience so far with painting large areas. Just buy something that hyou can learn to adjust the pressure/nozzle settings and you'll be good to go!

I guess it really comes down to a choice by preference. I would ultimately like to control airflow and spray size. As I have said before, I have not owned a hobby sprayer before, but I want to do this right. I might create a work area in my garage just for painting, so noise is okay with my current compressor. I really appreciate you guys offering your preferences for suggestions. I am just thrilled to at least be at this point in my endeavor.

Walked into a local hobby shop today and picked up the Badger Anthem dual action model for 40 % off! This is perfect, not sure if it was a mistake or not, but I said thanks, take my money!

prepping to start my painting of the ESB helmet. I have ben looking at the stencils and then looking at the movie tonight trying to get colors and damage done correctly. I had downloaded the Asow pics from 2008 and have been reviewing them until I noticed that they are from the ROTJ. Does anyone have any "zoomable" or crisp photo's of an ESB helmet to go by? I looked in our Gallery and did not really find any that I could zoom in on and have a crisp photo. I tried pausing my Bluray version of ESB, but of course, Bulloch turns his head iin the wrong direction at the wrong time! I know that there have been multiple posts in the past pointing users to various threads, but if someone has some solid frame shots, or actual ESB photos, that would really be helpful. Thanks.
Eric
