AFFO$'s MS ESB Progress

GET OUT OF HERE!!!!! What color list are you using? a conversion of the RS colors? you know now allot of people will be curious for a paint list (myself included).. if i can get it looking that good without doing the airbrush... im all over that idea.

What did you use for the base green on the lower cheeks and dome that came in a spray can? The only RS color I could find were in small bottles.

Lower Cheeks and Dome- Rustoleum Spruce Green
Upper Cheeks- Flat Black lightly misted with Spruce Green
All Red Areas- Krylon Burgundy Satin (#3503)
Grey around silver scratches- PollyScale Lark Dark Grey
Dark Red around scratches- PollyScale PRR Maroon

where are you finding those colors (non krylon ones) in spray? did you try the krylon ultra flat black?

i have a MS3 cming and i think im going to go this route :)

thanks for all the info.

i love the fact that you're using spray cans!

i did my helmet with the spruce green, and while it may not be the same stuff as the movie one was painted with, it's pretty bleepin' close!

as for finding it... that can be a challenge.

i got the spruce green from tk-1776. he special ordered it from home depot i think. iirc, you can special order any color from the brands that they sell, but there is a minimum purchase. i think he had to order a whole case of it.

i like the challenge of getting things to look good with readily available stuff (he says while glancing at the lastest selection of spray cans he bought at lunchtime today)

Got the front completed (except for the washes, of course). Now it's on to the back. I should have this baby finished this weekend, then it's off to the Cargo Hold!

Here's my progress on the back so far. This was done freehand as I have not cut out any stencils for the right side of the back of the helmet. This is about 8 hrs. worth of painting...as you can see...it goes pretty slow.

(n) Oh, yeah...Regarding the use of Miracle Whip as a painting mask...you have to be very careful when removing it, or it can cause the paint that is on top of it to smear across what you have already painted. I received an e-mail today from a boardmember who had this problem. So In my opinion, I would use a liquid mask that is designed specifically for painting. This was just an experimental technique that I was trying and have had a fair amount of success with. Sorry if I mislead anyone.(n)

Got the Blue-Green sprayed on the right side and the mask removed. It came out pretty decent. I'm going to do the scratch in the lower right topically since it's all stringy and small specks.

Are you using krylon colors for the back too? If so, what are they?

The back is American Accents (Rustoleum brand) Antique Blue misted with Krylon Hunter Green Satin. If you prefer the green backed ESB version then use the Hunter Green Satin as the base and mist it with the Antique Blue. After this is done I then give it a misting with Dark Grey Primer.

What colors do you plan on using for the kill stripes? What color was used for the yellowish chips on the back of the bucket by the key slots?
