    AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

To avoid getting into a painting rut I have decided to do my next helmet paintup in a Return of the Jedi scheme. The canvas of this paintup is an ASOK CC FP Helmet. I will try to do it step by step as much as possible, as with my last RotJ paint up I was asked for some small Ear and Cheek tutorials. I will include those in this paintup as well. And if you happen to be in the market for a RotJ Fett Helmet, this one will be up for sale in the Cargo Hold upon completion.

    AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

Looking forward to seeing this paint up. I'm an ESB guy but always love seeing Rotj paints. I want to try an Rotj paint up one of these days when I get the courage.

Got the killstripes done. Old fashioned tried and true method of masking tape and latex mask. Next up, 'The Ears'.

Looks really darn good so far! I'm guessing you're doing this by airbrush? Really looking forward to see how this turns out, keep it up!

Re: AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

Got the grey-green scratches applied to the lower cheeks. Started off by drawing the shapes onto the helmet using Rafalfett's Excellent Templates, then applied some pollyscale warpac grey green that I mixed with some pollyscale light grey. After that was applied, I misted over it with my rattle can Italian Olive to make the scratches less stark. Next I will start adding the silver damage...

Re: AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

Do you do all of the damage topically and just do the blocking of colors with spray cans? Or do you do some of the damage with spray? Since the pollyscale is not in a spray-can, I would assume you brushed it on? Do you find that it loses depth by doing it topically, or does the clear coat kind of eliminate that look by the time you're done? I only have experience with layering sprays onto my armor so far, but the way you did that green is appealing.

Re: AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

Yes, I do the damage topically because I feel it gives me greater control over the shape and spacing of the individual scratches. I've painted helmets both ways and by the time all of the clear coats are applied the difference is minimal at best...

Re: AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

Kind of repeating myself, but when you say topically do you mean topically solely with a brush, or topically spray and/or brush? I imagine the brush completely eliminates the use of masking fluid?

Re: AFFo$'s ASOK CC ROTJ PAINTUP

Yes, topically with a brush when painting the individual scratches. I do mist over it with different shades of greys and browns to tone everything down though...and the ROTJ helmet has TONS of oversprays...
