    Oct 15, 2007, 2:19 PM - Accurate Ear Placement #1

Okay, I'm going to try to describe this question as best as possible...if I need to post pics (and if we're allowed to post ref-disk pics) I will.

I'm working on modding/prepping my Mystery and I have a question about the upper right ear (Fett's right).

The part where the upper right ear mounts is obviously raised-up off the the helmet. My question is, does it 'fade' into the helmet or does the raise end abruptly? From pics on the Ref. Disk it looks like it fades in if you look at it from the front. If you look at it from the back it looks like it ends with a rather large shelf.

Anyone know the answer to this one?

    Best,

    Jared

BTW, I'm doing an ESB bucket if it matters (I don't think it does, I seem to remember someone finally stating the the buckets themselves are the same).

The upper right ear sections profile goes back onto the dome as an abrupt 'shelf' as you call it...

    Awesome, thanks Mojo!

I wonder why it's so evident from the back and not from the front. Perhaps it just an issue of paint and shadows that are preventing me from seeing it

    Mojo,

First VERY nice lid. What kind/maker is it? Thanks for post the pic to help me out.

I think I didn't do a very good job asking the question. You and I are talking about the same piece, but I'm wondering how it works back to the helmet on the side...not on the dome at the top.

Does that make sense? I'm looking at this post and I'm not sure if it will make sense to anyone else.

First off cheers for the compliments... It's a TF. I'm a long way off the finish line!
Again.. it has a definate 'step' (but) it seems to taper down from the top of the radius to the side where it meets the cheek section, not only on this but on many lids that I have seen?

    Mojo,

Perhaps it's just more pronounced on the rear. As you can see from the cropped ref-pics here, it's really hard to see the 'shelf' on the front, but it's VERY obvious on the rear?!?!?!?!?

Perhaps it's angled forward so the front fades in, and the rear ends abruptly???

Both sides do that SO... must be the paint job that defusess the angles... maybe this angle helps?

    Okay...

Mojo, I hesitate to say this because I don't want you to think I'm unappreciative of your help (let's face it, you're the only one who has responded to this thread, lol).

I'm looking at more and more Ref-Pics and I'm just not convinced. I'm getting the impression that what we'll call the upper-right 'ear mount' is slanted forward so that it ends with a 'shelf' in the back but fades into the side of the helmet on the front.

I know some guys here have been up-close and personal with the real-deal, and some pre-pros, can anyone shead some additional light on this????

Again, Mojo, don't think because i'm unsure I don't appreciate your participation!
