About to take the plunge!

oh god! Don't scare me or anything :[

These guys are not trying to scare you. They are trying to prepare you.

If you want a high quality Boba Fett, be prepared to work hard to pay a lot! :)

The only way to save is to do as much of the work as possible by yourself. If you farm it out, expect to pay.

Good luck! (y)

HEY! What's wrong with my helmet!

Nothing... it's great! We also understand why you ride the short Slave 1...

I'm in love with all your acronyms!

I would think putting together a tk would be a lot more time consuming, considering all the cuts that have to be made. But anyways... I could see the painting being a pain in the butt, but I refuse to do the painting. I need to contract one of these boba fetxperts to do it for me.

Should the helmet and armor match?

I think I'm going to go with the greenish gauntlets over the red gauntlets.

Okay so I have the money all ready.

I guess I just start picking and choosing.....

The helmet and armor are different greens. See Rogue Studios' post in the this section, its stickied. It has a great list of colors. If you go with the green gauntlets, you are heading toward an ESB version, so keep that in mind when picking out your parts. There are differences. Most important, do research and read alot on here with every part that you do. Take it one part at a time, or you may become overwhelmed. I would start with a helmet. A nice fiberglass one if you can afford it right away. If your painting skills are not great, you can commision someone to paint for you. Check the helmet section for progress threads. There are a lot of people painting helmets for other members. For a fee of course.

Sorry to see anyone disappointed but a quality suit like Graeme's is the culmination of years of hard work and very expensive. As far as a stormtrooper being harder to build, that's simply not the case. A stormtrooper can be put together in a few days as it's like a model kit...almost everything is there for you to piece together. Boba Fett suits are pieced together from some of the best specialized prop crafters the costuming hobby has ever seen.

If you're serious about building a Boba Fett then do what the rest of us here did... take your time and research the suit, find the best parts to suit your needs and create a reputation online here at TDH forum. Soon enough you'll know who to talk to for what and have yourself a suit to be proud of.

Oh.. and by the way... welcome to TDH. :)

yeah... unfortunately that just won't happen.

:-/

his suit represents a CRAZY amount of effort. i'm in my suit for several thousand, and that is with me painting everything myself, and i've still got more to do.

it's a lot of fun, but a LOT of work.

AMEN, brother!!! (y)

I prefer to do the work myself in such a way to feel myself happy with the results.

Two separate notes:

1. Great to see new blood around here on TDH sharing info about Fett...and somehow, doing a great job. Being doing their homework.
(y) ;) Kudos to ALL of you!!!

2. -QUOTING, and encoded-
RKT, SGB, MS, BM, BN, MoWS, RR, FH, AFFo$....the best sources around in the business. Unfortunately, I can't mention all the other sources, since I don't know about their status lately (i.e. FP...the GOD!!!(y) ). ;) Remember (Everyone), to not mention "sign-in names" publicly on this forum, to save your sounce, your time, and preserve "Friends" and our only resources here. (hint)

BTW, as well as the fellow VETERANS here just said.....WELCOME TO TDH!!! Just remember to use the SEARCH feature....trust me.

I have to agree with the others, this isn't exactly a hobby you can dive into feet first and gain all the knowledge you need within a short period of time. I've been working on my costume for a good 5 years, and I'm still not finished or satisfied. It takes more than just money, you need to research the costume like crazy and put a lot of work into it. Just hang around TDH for a bit, get to know your options for making/buying components, and hopefully within a year you'll be well on your way to completion ;)

You should be able to do it for $2000 (or more if you want to go all out)That is very realistic. Use the "search" function to find makers. Then "PM" them with your wants. Just a heads up, your looking at 6-12 months to complete minimum (makers have lives away from TDH)

yeah, I hate it when people order and they expect to be on their doorstep the next morning. These things take time to do properly.

I agree with you.

In my eyes, there is NO Fett that will ever be complete, there will always be something to fix.

So JFJ, what else do you want to upgrade on your costume?

I don't know about never being done. If you start with excellent gear, then you 'should' be miles ahead of the game. Come to think of it, I would like a larger bucket, and a machined missle...ok, ok, it will never be done

Boba will become an addiction to you. I spent hours and hours locked in my garage or at my computer screen, painting armor only to strip it all down and start over because one bit of weathering didn't come out the way I wanted. I have redone my knees 3 times and I still don't like them. I want some better boots than CA. I have finally got my Boba to a point that I feel like I can move on to another costume. Of course I still want to redo several pieces. Oh and install a servo in the helmet... and a hollow rangefinder... and upgrade my vest... and... well you get the picture. Whenever I think about wearing a different costume I think, "I really want to wear my Boba."

This will mark my 5th costume.
Like many other's here I have spent a lot of time doing research, looking at photos from almost every conceivable angle, watching the movie over and over....

and then comes the fun, finding the pieces, buying the parts.... making it work!

Even then, I am still going back to my other costumes and upgrading them. Jedi Knight - new boots, and making a new belt
Imperial Officer - completely new uniform, new rank bars and code cylendars
Biker Scout... this one I really haven't touched all that much, but I want to buy a helmet to replace my Rubies!
TIE Pilot, haven't touched.... YET!

Boba, is by far the most intricate and detailed costume I have ever taken on. There were times I felt overwhelmed with just the amount of detail, thinking my gosh, I'll never get to look like these guys on here.

I know I have a lot of work left to do, but this is part of the fun! I can have a chance to make something look like a character I have admired and idolized since I was a kid. Sure, I could have picked another costume, and for a while, I was considering an X-Wing Pilot, but Boba.... he is a childhood favorite. I looked at the costume, and I pictured myself in his place. Only one thing came to mind. I HAVE TO DO THIS!

I have found this board indespencible in terms of resources for painting tips, craftsmen and women to get that certain piece I need for my costume.

Bottom line, while there are a lot of people that make bits and pieces, I think it is difficult at best, if not impossible to say that one is better than the other... My advice would be to look through the threads, use the seach tool on here and contact those mentioned above about what they make!

Good luck on your costume and please keep us informed of the progress!!!!

Respectfully,
WannaBeBoba
