i cant get a 95/96 any where for my price range ($25-$35)
i could get a 97 for that much im sure but what is wrong with them? i know theres a flat top, i could fix that with a hair dryer most likely, how thick are they? are they as thin as a vacuformed haloween mask? like the casper the ghost masks or a bert and ernie mask? i ahve never seen one in person so im clueless. another concern is if i talk would my jaw go below the helmet like when you wear a hockey mask? i was wanting to put the cloth and elastic around it like in jangos helmet around the bottom. is there any size comparison pics with a 95 and a 97?

any info greatly appreciated!!

From what I can gather from the folks in here (correct me if I'm wrong guys), the reason the 97 is considered bad is for the following reasons:

1/ Warps easily.
2/ Flat top of "dome"
3/ Sides tend to be straight rather than flared (sloped outward slightly).

I believe these to be the major problems with it ,though others may know of more. I myself own a 97 I am in the process of reworking and belive it can be done (with a lot of effort!!!).

yes thats teh same attitude i have tward it also carbonitekid! im worried about the overall size though. will your jaw show when you talk.

Depends on the size of your head ;)

Seriously though, Ive not had the problem myself and im a reasonably normal proportoined 5' 11". It will also probably depend on how you fit it out internally ,ie foam/ hard hat liner etc.

Well,
I answer to the Casper the ghost.(thickness)It is not like A
halloween mask. That would be the kelloggs clone helmet.(very thin) The d.p. and rubbies are A med/thick vinyl.

where does your chin come to on the inside of the 97? how far from the bottom is it?

I'ts not that far from the bottom (but i've got a large chin). Checked with the wife and she says its not visible if thats what your worried about. Like I said it will probably depend on wether you fit a hard hat liner or foam blocks to stop it moving around as to the exact position it will sit ,but I can't see you having a problem. Without any liner it will sit a little low for you to see through but you will have ample room.

Heres a few shots front and side of my dp97, all i needed to do was put a metal rod around the inside rear of the helmet to give it some flare,
i also have a hardhat liner and you still cant see my chin when i speak
I'm still after a MSH though :D

wee~!1 i got my paws on a 96! but i cant buy it until i get $20 because i dont have enough. cant some one buy my items? this si the only way i am going to get this helmet, please some one?

I also have a DP 97. If you're over 1.75 m, you will find the bucket too small to fit you. Not in size but optically.

Fett-uk , are you small? The helmet does not appear too small when you wear it.

I think the DP or the Rubies are a good beginning when you start your costume, but you should update it with a good resin or fiberglass creation as soon as possible.

I have a DP95 & DP96.The 95 seems smaller, is it?
I agree that the 97 has a flat head.Is it too difficult to correct? If it's your first helmet I'd suggest the 96(it was mine)with the replaced visor & better paint.(ESB version only :moon )

6' medium build, I'm not sure if this was an 'early' dp 97 coz the flare was quite good and the dome wasn't too flat! don't know if dp 97's varied in shape/size?

danakin, nice custom (y)
