    3D Printer Build

    Hey everyone,

Last year I attempted to build a Fett helmet using AntMan's Second Scratch build as a guide.
It didn't really turn out with the quality that I was looking for.

I started gathering materials for a second go when yesterday at work I was talking to my boss about printing a case for my new Raspberry Pi.
That's when it hit me, I know that some people have produced amor/helmets using lathes and cnc machines, but has anyone ever tried a 3D printer?

I guess the second have of my query is, does anyone have any CAD files available? I'm open to designing the armor from scratch, but I realize that this would take quite a bit of time.

Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone can offer,
    Tylerflick

I don't have a CAD (or any other 3D file) of my helmet templates, and all my work is public, including the measurements of the helmet, the templates, the stencils and so on. If I can help you, I will do it gladly.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick responses. If I can't get ahold of any CAD files maybe we can create a set for public use.
I'm going to talk to my boss today and see if I can get some more details on the printers.

    Re: 3D Printer Build

im new here, i know MichaelS over at grabcad.com made a 3d version of the helmet. it looks excellent, but its just the outer mesh, so i asked him to just increase the internal thickness of the walls, so that it could be a solid object, then from there it could be 3d printed, btw i have a 3d printer, but its not big enough to print the whole helmet, but at some point im planning on making the print area larger.

I've been thinking about investing in a 3D printer... Curious to how a bucket would turn out and how strong it would be.

Depending on which medium you used to have it printed in, how ever the way to do it would be to print a none hollow buck and then take a mold from that and cast a helmet from the mold,
and unless you could get your hands on one of the 6 original helmets or the 3d files taken of the PP3 helmet made by master replica's when they made there Boba , it may not be worth the trouble,

    Re: 3D Printer Build

sorry i havent been on, ive been busy at school and working on a large enough 3d printer to make the helmet. Ive got basically 4 different materials to make it from, PLA, ABS, Polycarbonate, and nylon plastic. the nylon is my choice because its tough, flexible and its the cheapest of all of the plastics because its available as bulk trimmer line. also take a look on grab cad, someone already made a very nice 3d version of the helmet. i even used it to make a jango fett stick shift knob, ive been using it for about 6 months now.
