    May 19, 2008, 4:03 PM - 3 Hole Borden Connector #1

If anyone is in the market for a real, three hole Borden connector for their Boba helmet, I found a company online that sells them. You're looking to buy part number: 0121.

    Here's their site:

    http://interguidedental.com/catalog/...p?product=7825

I had one in my old MSH2 that I just sold and loved having the "real deal" in there.

Edit... first site I posted wouldn't sell the parts direct as a private sale. The new link has no problem and is easier as you can simply order online as opposed to ordering on the phone like the first link I posted. I'll let everyone know how it goes when I get the parts in.

folks - i only asked bob because we see each other regularly... if you don't hang out with him in person often, you won't save anything by not ordering directly yourselves

    UGH ! ! ! SIGH ! ! !
I guess what I should have asked is ..What is a borden used for? Apparently and I understand it has three holes and needs connecting to something for some "godly" reason
I went to the web site and I also understand it has something to do with the dental profession..maybe???? but what exactly

If you're buying these you want part #0121 Metal Connector only - $ 4.60.

Brian, I'll pick you up a couple with mine. For everyone else, like Brian said... it only works for us to team up to buy them because I see him in person on a regular basis. I'm not doing a group order here simply because they're cheap enough on their own already. Just figured I'd post the link because Brian and I were talking about these last week and frankly, I hadn't seen anyone talking about them recently on the forums.

As an aside, I'm actually very surprised with how everyone's so picky about details and found parts how few people actually bother to install these in their buckets. Especially with how cheap they are! It's a great little found piece for short money.

This is what I found online about it:

    Quote WikiPedia said:
The modern incarnation of the dental drill is the air turbine handpiece, developed by John Patrick Walsh (later knighted) and members of the staff of the Dominion Physical Laboratory (DPL) Wellington , New Zealand. The first application for a provisional patent for the handpiece was granted in October 1949. This handpiece was driven by compressed air. The final model is held by the Commonwealth Inventions development Board in Canada. The New Zealand patent number is No/104611. The patent was granted in November to John Patrick Walsh who conceived the idea of the contra angle air turbine handpiece after he had used a small commercial type air grinder as a straight handpiece. Dr. John Borden developed it in America and it was first commercially manufactured and distributed by the DENTSPLY Company as the Borden Airotor in 1957.
So presumably the Borden connector is part of a Borden Airotor.

I'd actually love to have the real deal installed in my bucket if it was possible to get it. And outside the USA...

This was a great help. Google'd the part number DCI 0121 and found a cheaper overall purchase for U.S. buyers:

    thedevicedoctor.com
just type 0121 in the dci part number search and you've got your connector.

The part costs more but shipping is less.

The correct three hole Borden connectors are not available today or I should say they’re not in production anymore. There are companies that sell three hole dental connectors today but the hole sizes are not the correct diameters as screen used Fetts.

Here’s a pic I saved from RafalFett (thanks Raf), showing correct hole size in relation to connector itself. I did buy two sets from the site listed as a test and the Large hole looks correct, but the second and the third holes are the same size and this is not movie accurate.
