Your great TDH moments

So, my last thread about past heroes of TDH has got me thinking about what TDH has meant to me over the past 7 years, and although there have been a lot of ups and downs, I have a lot of great memories. Thought I would share a few significant moments, and thought perhaps some of you might do the same.

First and foremost, TDH has given me something unique that I don't think anyone else here can claim... TDH provided me with the girl of my dreams. Not exactly a "moment" but surely worth noting.

Most of my great moments are more people-centric than about the props themselves....

1) I think about the day I came to the realization that the piece in the back of the helmet was the guts to the MQ-1 and driving home from work to prove it with Lee (Rogue Studios) on the phone, both of us so giddy we could barley talk. I nearly got in a wreck I was driving so fast and then remember slinging into the driveway, running through the house and out to the shop. My fingers would barely work the screwdriver as I tried to get the MQ-1 apart, all the while with Lee in my ear going "Is it the MQ-1? Is it the MQ-1?" Just a really cool moment for me and it was cool to have someone right there to share it with.

2) This is probably a "had to be there" kinda moment, but as I have mentioned before, Tyler Durden and I used to spend countless hours pouring over reference photos, looking for similarities and formulating ideas. A lot of times, these conversations would go until 3:00am or later and as there was often alcohol involved, as it got later, and later, things usually began to get a bit fuzzy. I remember one night we were completely done when Dan mentioned something about Boba's boots and I replied, in all seriousness "Boba Fetts got boots?" Dan has never ever let me forget that one and it has come to be our standard response for *** moments.

3) Last spring I flew out to Texas for the JB project unveiling thanks to Spidey Fett, Fett Pride, and Darthmiller. We had initially planned to snap a few photos, but that morphed into a full on professional photo shoot. I was so nervous because there were tons of people watching (usually I don't like or allow onlookers at my shoots as it is very distracting) and I really wanted things to work out well. The guys had done such a great job on the suit and Jeremy looked good in it, but lets face it, it has been a lot of years and I was really worried the shoot was going to go badly. Jeremy put on the helmet and the moment he posed will be marked in my mind forever, because it was immediately BOBA FETT. Time just stopped for a second and I thought, here I am, a practical nobody, and I am doing a professional shoot for Boba Fett. Was a truly awesome moment for me.

OK, so there are three great moments for me that would have never happened had it not been for TDH. What are some of yours?

Yup, mine would have to be the JB photoshoot. It was the first time I got to meet JB, and many of you all. I remember the room was very quite while you shot. I stood next to Eric (Suerjedi), and remember looking at the big smiles on everyone's faces. Never thought I'd see JB drink margarita's in person.

For me, it was after 2 years of hard work putting my suit together to completion. I quickly submitted for entrance into the 501st(Garrison Carida) and was graciously accepted. This could not have been done without lot's of help from the guys here.

What I didn't know, was that the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia was begenning to host the "Where Science Meets Imagination" event. This touring event was to display actual movie props and become the biggests event that the F.I. would ever have.

So, with all my luck rolling with me, I was given the privilege of being the Fett man at a special event for city educators before opening night. It just so happens that my wife is a teacher, and she actually got an invite from her school district for this event.

So, with my TK escort, I was ushered along into the mail hall and "BANG" there's my wife. She broke into tears after seeing me realize one of my dreams come true, getting to portray one of my heroes in front of 500 people. It actually gave me chills, and it'a a moment I won't soon forget. NONE of this could have happened without the Fantactic support of the TDH community. Thanks guys!!

For me, it would have to be playing ESB Boba Fett in the Spike TV commercial that I did for LFL Ltd. I remember when I got the call from Mary Franklin (LFL) to drive up to Burbank from San Diego. I must have been going 95mph all the way up there. The production company booked me a room at the Marriot and I was treated like a King. They paid for everything, even right down to the Bar tab the night before and the parking fees. The whole commercial aired for only 30 seconds but we filmed all day. I met so many cool people on the set which had to be 200+ involved in the shooting that day. I had many people saying "that suit is awesome" and "what time do you have to return it" they didn't believe me when I said it was mine. The scenes were filmed in the Marriots 2nd tower lobby. It was an awesome experiance that I'll never forget.

I also learned that day that the actor you see coming out of the doors on the left with the glasses on was College roomates with non other than Mark Hamill. They have remained good friends to this day.

I owe a big thanks to the TDH and for sure wouldn't have gotten that gig if it wasn't for the many talented people here who helped me put together a great Fett suit.

For me it was bringing a virtual pipedream of mine: owning a Boba Fett costume,to completion and having finished my suit. From the first thread on the RPF you started to some 6 years later and all of the people I met along the way. I still like reading all of the newest discoveries and theories on items regarding Boba Fett on TDH. Hard to believe the amount of time that has passed.

Great post Art! I have to say I havent really been around long enough to appreciate the great discoveries when they were made, and I have not really made any myself. But sharing in the excitement when somebody else discovers something is a true joy.

Some things I have been around to enjoy have been;
1) Lee's periodic updating of his ESB helmet color list.
2) Art sharing the PP2 and later the PP3 helmet photos.
3) Lee/Art/Tyler Durden sharing about the helmet chincup.

I'm sure there were many others but these are all I could think of at the moment.
And Art, I can totally relate to this sort of moment.

I can relate to that story because I once researched the armor vest's sleeves (a bit more complex than they seem) until about 6:00 am and then thought I had solved the pattern. I drew a diagram of it and went to sleep with a smile on my face. The next day I think I went to go show it to Art on AIM and looked at my drawing and literally went "What the hell?" My drawing made no sense and whatever solution I thought I had found was complete garbage. Goes to show you how delusional the tired mind can get.:rolleyes

so what sort of post count are members looking at until the "girl of their dreams" option becomes available?

mine will sound a little odd and somewhat negative, but it's not really meant to be.

tdh for me represents perseverance. when i first joined up, the board was in a cycle of not really being all that friendly to new folk. a few times i wanted to just not come back. but i stuck to it, kept posting progress pics, and eventually feel like i made some good impact on things... painting with rattlecans, hacking up some cheap thing and making a cool part out of it, stuff like that.

it reminds me that sometimes when something is awkward at first, you have to stick to it to get where you want to be. and when you get there, you feel like you've really done something... a feeling totally different than what you'd get if you just had the world on a platter.

It was early 2000. My girlfriend Christy and I had just moved in together..I had discovered eBay for the first time..It was pretty new then. Saw some DP Fett helmets and a crude recast that wasn't very good.."Hmmmm, I can do that" I remember saying to myself :rolleyes

That week I built a vacuum form table..Within 2 weeks I had a Boba Fett helmet on eBay. That helmet sold for $500.00 to Mark Austin CGI artist and stand-in for the Boba Fett SE Trilogy footage

Right then an there I knew my life had changed forever..I quit my job the following week and haven't stopped building Fett props ever since. I thought Christy was gonna kill me..Now she's my biggest supporter. We've been together for 10 years now and plan to get married someday. We laughed about that story while on the plane to Texas to attend the JB project..Guess it came full circle :rolleyes

"I know a lot of people think your Slave Leia costume is just perfect and while you are beautiful in it... the costume itself leaves a lot to be desired in terms of accuracy and I think I might be able to help you with that..."

Man... those kind of endearing lines hook them every time! lol:

Thanks Art

1.) The biggest change to the site as far as the accuracy of costumes goes lays in the hands of 2 events in my personal opinion. The discover of the orginal paints made and researched by LEE and the MoM and other exibits that produced the thousands of photos that were taken then on after.

2.) On a personal level

Though never fully discovered nor confirmed, but the months of debates we had on the ESB cape. Which we later discovered or thought came out of the Hudson Bay company. Though we were never sure/could prove it, it was a step toward the right direction and was something I spent alot of time researching

The sad thing is... it is totally true...

I think I'm going to have to go with the GREAT CLAM LORD! As well as his attempt to begin the Mandalorian revolution! Not to mention his own cities... currency... oh man the list goes on. I remember laughing so hard reading through the whole thread... what a shame its all over really...

Some other great moments are probably when I first joined this board back in 2004. I was 15, and not so much in the know-how on making any sort of accurate costume, but everyone was still so welcoming and helpful from the very beginning, even though I was just a kid (Which is hard to find sometimes in online communities). I'm still working my way slowly towards a more accurate Jango Fett costume, but TDH has helped me so much to make it presentable!

Another great moment would have to be when FP got a hold of one of the Real Jango Fett Helmet (molds?). I poo'd a brick that day. Amazing stuff.

That was realy funny though.

My top three moments of TDH-dom :

#1 - Relising its ok to stab yourself on accident with an X-acto.
#2 - It was at C3, I was a nobody (Still am. ), in a horrible costume put together with vinyl and velco, and then Art, Mirax, Nick, and a handfull of other walk up as I was standing outside with my family. Considering there aren't any 501st members anywhere near me, and Halloween is the only time to do anything, this was proboly my favorite moment. (Its also the moment I'm looking back on to give me inspiration to try and do my TEOD Kast this year.)
#3 - This one is odd, because it didn't necessarily "meen" anything at the time. But at one point in time during C3, I was standing near a door way, someone came up to me (I was like 15 during C3 I think.), said, "I think your on TDH. I'm so-and-so." shook my hand, and walked away. Never did figure out who it was, but it just stayed with me.

And when something stays with me, its nearly a miracle. Here in the past 2 years I can't remember anything. And for once I'm not joking, its realy odd, because I can't hardly remember any vacations,etc. we've took, and there's no reason I shouldn't. :facepalm

My TDH tenure is limited, as are my experiences, but my highlight is definitely meeting the Texans at SW Fan Days II and taking home first prize in the adult male costume category in my first troop ever.

That made the effort worth it in my eyes.

i guess mine was when i started visiting TDH and made the decision " i am going to this!" i had always wanted a fett costume off and on since i was kid. that thought was always in the back of my mind. just took till i hit my 30's that i had calmed down enough to start one.

thanks to everyone on here that has helped me on my costume so far.

Great stories folks.

Well, my memory would have to be the build-up of my ROTJ Fett. I just had a hard time in my personal life, though I was/am young, and working on Boba Fett made me escape that situation. Working all summer long untill late in the evening. Talking and debating here, showing my stuff, getting help, helping others... and then finally I even got the LEDs send over here and some D rings for free from Pavespawn and Gator Fett... I mean... That made me feel so strange, they just helped out. And that goes for alot of members here, people are eager to help you out.

I've been away for some time, yet everyone's standing in line to welcome you back after a while...

TDH feels a bit like a "home" on the internet, something to fall back on when you need it the most.

It sounds strange I guess, but the reactions you get here, the jokes, the fun, the Fett... all the messages you get here are "true", whereas in alot online communities it's a mere policy to react kindly.

TDH is genuine I suppose.

I love it here. You guys rock!!!

Playing with a Boba Fett character, then getting the crazy idea to buold a costume and finally ending up here where you can perfect that wish. Just... awesome.

My all time favourite hero is standing there in my living room 1:1... I've met JB in that suit and he seemed to know everything... also because of you guys.

TDH is just... TDH.
