As this year draws to a close, let's reflect a little...

Since the year is just about done (and the decade as well) I paused for a moment to reflect back on how things were years ago. I thought of faces and names that are no longer around, but also of the "old guard" that is still here.
I also pondered how lucky the people that are new to the hobby are and also how unfortunate it is for them at the same time.
The "new people" have the advantage of being able to purchase every part of the costume. There are multiple vendors and painters here that are able to provide goods and services that were far beyond our dreams even 5 years ago. They can buy everything they need complete and ready to wear if they so desire.
This, sadly, is a two-edged sword. They have missed out on the wonder and discovery of many found parts. Most will never experience the joy of LisaFett's Jetpack tutorial or scouring the internet for a DP95 with the white interior (cuz that's way better than the 97,96,or even the green interior :))
Granted, there is still more to learn and I do realize not everyone buys their costume off the rack. I just mean that there was a time when you had to make your own stuff.
I came into the hobby in the middle. I got to build my own stuff and buy some parts from the vendors. It was a wondrous time for me and I wouldn't trade it with anyone for all the world.
In closing, I would like to salute the "old guard" and thank them for not only paving the way for us, but also sticking around to make sure that we made it through.
Thank you TDH. :cheers

Very well said and I couldn't agree with you more,I've been around from almost the very beginning and I myself made 80% of my ROTJ Fett armor a while back by whatever was available as reference not to mention the inspiration that got into me after my first encounter with the real suit at the N.Y.C. MoM exhibit as well to meet ART our board administrator. The fact that all the senior men on this board did so much to make this place what it is today really puts a smile on my face.

Cheers!! : Here's to ya!! Staff and first TDH senior Board members

thank you! TDH :) and happy new year to all fellow denters... It is true that we live in a good time for all the newbie Fetts, yet reading thru ages of threads from the very beginning is such a joy and it has become my habit... I do not think i would stop all of that when my Fetts' were done... This is the most amazing place i have ever been !:)
