The World's 1st 3-D Holographic Animated Character Concert In Japan
The Dejarik chess table as seen in the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars- "A New Hope" may not remain fiction for much longer...
Recently in Japan, 2 famous pop stars, Miku Hatsune and her partner Megurine Luka from the "Vocaloid" series are making huge waves with their recent sold out concert tours. The difference here though is that, unlike the other Japanese pop stars, both of the stars are a complete 3-D holographic creation. (There is talk that they may eventually bring them to North America, and have them sing in English.)
Note: In Japanese concerts, the fans would usually bust out glowsticks as a sign of support for their favorite singer.
Which brings to the question..Once technology advances to the point where people can't tell if the pop star is real or not, will the musical promoters/companies in the future decide to replace real life actors and singers with 3-D Holographic creations? (Holographic pop stars will never grow old, never get tired, will never demand a pay raise, will never throw temper tantrums and trash a hotel room, and will never get involved in a scandal.)

Wow, this could help a lot of people out, just think... the president is walking out for a speach in D.C. but he really is in a studio in L.A.

Apparently I'm the only one who remembers as a kid going to an arcade and finding giant domish games in which 3D characters fought like mortal combat characters and even had a wild west cowboy/indian shootout going. You could actually pass your hand through the images.

We had a video conference like this several years ago when we opened a major campus in India. It's very cool technology indeed. No idea if what they used was Cisco-based or not.

The company is actually considering bringing the "Live" concert to North America, and having the 3-D "Vocaloid" girls perform in English. (You might want to pay attention to this, Mr. Lucas.)

It's definitely a new way to present stuff and a pretty interesting idea for a concert. Really cool stuff regardless of who made the gear they used.
