Wizard’s New Ride!

    Hello,

Sorry I haven’t been around lately I have been swamped so if I have forgotten anyone please send me a PM to remind me.

Now to the subject of the thread I just put in the order for my new ride. It is a Saturn Sky, 2.4L 16V, 177 Hp, midnight blue as pictured with black & red leather. I nearly got a ticket during the test drive so I figured I better stay away from the Turbo, it has 260 Hp.

Now I have to wait 8 very long weeks!

    Alan

I sat in one of those at the dealer last year. Pretty nice inside, lots of external styling cues from the C6 Corvette. I hear they're loads of fun to drive. Congrats, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot, especially with summer coming up.

    Re: Wizard’s New Ride!

I am really looking forward to it! For the past 10 years I have been driving an SUV, but before that I had a Ferio that I loved to drive, great car for LA, wish I had a convertible then. Seattle isn't noted for its nice weather, but I'll manage. Driving will be fun again!!

No hard top, yet. The Pontiac Solstice will have a hard top for 2009, can't say that I care for it. Looks too much like the old 280Z but in a bad way.

As for cost, before taxes and tags $28410.00 for the 2.4L with leather I had to pay a bit more for the black/red interior. Saturn is great to buy a car from walked in told them what I wanted and we were done. No "Well I need to talk to the manager first..." messing around, totally hate that. I was there for an hour and that was with 2 test drives thrown in.

it's only a 177hp 4 cylinder saturn, the cops can catch that. but you'd look pretty cool during the chase, and then like a **** fool when they have your face buried in the concrete with the cuffs on.

Well today is the day. I get to pick up my new ride this afternoon!! Of course it arrived while I was in Atlanta, which made that trip seem all that much longer. I'll post pics once I get it home.

The first thing that I am buying is a radar detector, as long as I see them first they won't know I'm being a bit agressive on the gas pedal.

    Have a great day All!

Beautiful car Alan! Would love to trade my Nissan Armada in for a more sportier and fuel efficient Sky. Got to haul the kids though. Can't put two kids in a two-seater.

I am already having a ball with it, the feel of the acceleration is fantastic!! and it tracks the turns like it's on rails!

Sure come on over hop on in and we'll go for a spin.

    What's a trunk??

The radar detector let's you know when to use other cars for cover, I learned my freeway driving combat skills from the best when I lived in LA. It is not necessarily defensive driving it is more of offensive driving, as they say the best defense is a good offensive.

I have been buying the "family car" for the past 15 years, this time it was my wife's turn she got a Forester. My 5 year old son loves the Sky, "GO FASTER DADDY FASTER!"

Well now that you mention it. I have started working on a 3D CGI model for it. Can't say that it will be 100% perfect but it will allow me to create new body styles, since it is built on a true frame and all of the body panels except the rear 1/4 panels are removable creating new body panels and ground effects are a possibility.

I'm an engineer! I can't leave anything alone, I have always have to take things apart and redesign them.

HAHA that's awesome. I was mostly just joking, but I think it's pretty cool you are making a 3D model of it. Very nice set of wheels, btw!

I will be posting pics hopefully this weekend, the weather i supouse to improve. We have revert back to winter weather, friggin freezing, raining and nasty.

I have only got 40 or so miles on it, but it is a blast to drive. I have been driving SUVs for the past 15 years I had forgotten how much fun driving can be. This car is glued to the road, it take turns like it is on rails, now even the traffic circle/roundabout is fun to drive through.

The looks you get are great. Since there are so few on the road not many folks know what it is. It's a real head turner.

No I don't have MSN / messenger, but you can send me PMs or e-mails.

I did a lot of research and from what I read it's a very save car. I have see pics of a Solsitise that got rolled and the person walked away from it with only a few bumbs and bruses. The car is built on a very stout frame, the body is strickly for looks (non-structural) that with the airbags and the rollbar under the rear deck make for a very safe passenger compartment.

The car is wide for it's size, (71.4") which makes it very stable, no body roll what so ever. It takes corners like it's on rails and with the 2008 model year traction control is standard and I have been testing it out, pushing it to the limits of my comfort zone, which are prety far out there and have had no problems keeping it between the lines.

You need to be careful with what "Consumer Reports" puts out they have their own ajenda and are not always on the up an up with their reviews. The Solsitise and the Sky have not gotten good reviews from the car magazine reviewers for some reason mainly for hte trunk space or lack there of and the manual convertable top, but the folks that own them love them. I have heard of a few lemons out there, but that is normal for any make of car. Check out the forum I post above and ask the folks there what they think.

Check out the government safety ratings for the 2008 Sky (this one didn't have the traction control which make a big difference. Here is the link just type in the Sky info. All 4 and 5 stars. I tried to do a direct link but it wouldn't take it.

    http://www.safercar.gov/

Here are the ratings - http://www.safercar.gov/staticfiles/...f/BASC2008.pdf

Just so happen the car on the cover is a Solsitice,

I have to get the car washed this weekend and then I post pics.

I am picking up some mud guard tomorrow and my dual exhaust system arived tonight I still need a few more parts before the exhaust can be installed, but there is no hurry. I have a number of mods planned, but that will take some time.

If you have any questions let me know.

I don't plan to be that crazy, just going to have a little fun. 8) Got to drop the top this afternoon, I was in heaven! I have never had a convertible before and it is fantastic, and the horsepower is just plain a kick in the pants! Driving is now offically fun again!

I've only had one convertible so far, a 1973 Triumph Spitfire. It was a blast. A little funny to see though. I kind of felt like Chris Farley in Tommy Boy, except it was "Fat guy in a little car." I bought a 73 Mustang convertible a while back to restore though. I can't wait. It has a big block V8.

    Have fun,

Cool !!!! They build these in my state, Delaware so natually I see lots of 'em.... both the Sky and the Solstice. In 2012 they're slated to be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Enjoy the new ride!

    Re: Wizard’s New Ride!

    Hey Wizard,

I appreciate the info, any info I can glean, is more info I can put to use in convincing my father that it would be a safe ride, as he won't support me "because he's a consumer reports kinda guy"...

I'm 18, getting ready to buy my own car, and he said he'd match a dollar for every three I have type of thing, and I want to get the Sky.

Are there any other resources you can think of that I could possibly mention to my father?

Thanks a bunch for the above info as well!

    - Fitz

    Also,

"I am picking up some mud guard tomorrow and my dual exhaust system arived tonight I still need a few more parts before the exhaust can be installed, but there is no hurry. I have a number of mods planned, but that will take some time."

I probably would like to do the dual exhaust mod as well, and would love info on that if you don't mind and you have a moment sometime.

    Thanks again!

    Re: Wizard’s New Ride!

The Sky Roadster forum is a great place to get honest opinions and factual information. http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/

But I'll see what else I can find.

As for exhaust I'll be taking a lot of pics to document the conversion.

I'm 18, getting ready to buy my own car, and he said he'd match a dollar for every three I have type of thing, and I want to get the Sky.

Are there any other resources you can think of that I could possibly mention to my father?

Thanks a bunch for the above info as well!
