Why we do what we do

I think this photo, which was taken this past weekend at the "Where Science meets Imagination" exhibit in Chicago, captures why many of us love this hobby. If you've experienced "the look" before, then you know what I mean.

yup, i've seen it :)

when you get that kid that just KNOWS that you really ARE the character, and is in awe of meeting you. it's the strangest feeling, and really sticks with you!

I REALLY think it's a priceless moment during a time like Halloween or a convention where a kid is dressed up in the same costume I am wearing and approaches me.

The look make all the time and money spent worth it.

So how did you handle the troop with out your blaster. I was Fett the previous weekend and felt naked the whole time. I even went as far as to carry the sonic beam weapon to make up for the loss... didn't help though.

Sweet!!!!!! I'm hoping for the same thing next month when that tour makes it up here to MN. Hey, does they by chance have the Fett suit in that exhibit??? Again, kewl pic!!!!
D

I saw this one somewhere and saved it. This kid obviously has a very serious question for this trooper. I love this picture.

aw, your museum doesn't allow blasters? ours was all about shooting the kids ;)

To answer a couple of questions, neither Fett is included in this exhibit, only Boba's miss-labeled ROTJ blaster.

When we came out for public events, the museum did not allow us to carry blasters and kept us on a very short leash. Curiously, during the earlier private events, blasters seemed to be fine and they treated us much better, providing food and beverage. Anyway, I was OK with not carrying my blaster. I just posed with my gauntlets...Boba is never without weapons.

I know exactly what you mean Bill. Gotta love that feeling when a kid sees you and wants to tell you that you're his favorite character in the movie!

I miss having that exhibit in Boston... :(

well said. I look forward to seeing all the looks on the little kiddies faces at these shows. my son stares at me when i'm suited up ( i just wonder what he's thinking) it truly is...why we do what we do. great post

I've only ever trooped once and that was in my Stormy gear for the Episode III premiere. Seeing all of the kids eyes light up was amazing!! To see them hesitantly approach like you were the real deal made the whole experience really rewarding. It was worth putting up with all the obnoxious teenagers who would push and heckle you just to see the excitement in the children. :D

Having only been a "handler" at two small events,I have not yet put a outfit together,it was great to see the youth and the adults get excited to take pictures and ask questions of the "Troopers" I helped.
I remember one dad who drove almost 2 hours because he heard we might be there. He brought his daughter who was just getting into the films. It was neat to watch her light up in her fathers arms as a Biker Scout and a Sandperson came from out of no where to visit her.

The Carolina Garrison of the 501st was at a Toys for Tots event in our neck of the woods. My girls, ages 6 and 4, saw Darth Vader, some Stormtroopers, a Clone trooper, a Tusken Raider and several Jawas.

My oldest absolutely lit up when the wind caught Vader's cape. She shouted "That's awesome!" The little one was more wary about everything, though. Keep up the good work everyone! For every punk teenager, there are A LOT more admirers. :cheers You never know who you'll inspire. :)

This is a great thread... I really can't wait till I get suited up and show all of my efforts to my little girl for the first time?
She sees me prepping and painting stuff... and asks when are you gonna look like Boba Fett dad! I really can't wait for that day and the troops with KOTE to come..
The feeling you guys must have... :)
