    What's your occupation?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's heard the stereotype that everyone who wears a costume either here or in the 501st is a "computer geek" or "tech nerd" although I'm sure their are a lot of techs out there, I just wanted to see what other occupations members here are in. I'm an Aerospace Engineer/Machinist programmer (CNC) and been doing Military/Gov work for the past 17 years. We work with General Dynamics, Lockheed to name a few.

    what do you do?

    Re: What's your occupation?

    * Not being in the 501st and proably wont be able to.I dont mind sharing what I do *

I am working for our local Coca-Cola bottling company as the company fleet painter and fabricator.Which means I paint alot of red and white. We are a huge outfit witha fleet of about 200+ vehicles and I am responisble for making sure they stay nice and red/white.I am also responsible if the company needs any painting with the equipment and anything the "bosses" dem it needs to be painted.Back to fleet vehicles,if any of them get wrecked or damage I am the one who repairs them. Here lately about three a week are needing repairing.Plenty of job security
My responsbilties as company fabricator,if the powers that be or the mechanics need something "fabbed" up I am the one has to brainstorm to make it happen.
Not trying to read as resume( which I just realized) I have over 20 years experience in fabricating, automotive repairing, customizing and painting.
Which is why I enjoy trying to help others via here with their projects since I am currently not working on anything of my own and dont have anything to work on.

I'm not in the 501st YET. Though, right now I am a Medical Lab Technician, which I absolutely hate, however, it pays the bills. But... I have a Mortuary Science degree and am seeking an apprenticeship to become a Mortician. I'm also a certified Piercer and do body piercings on the side.

Theatrical Technician, Front of House engineer, whatever title you want to give it. Currently I run Sound and Lights for a theatre here in Arizona.

Lots of fun running around in the dark, making things up on the fly and in general entertaining people.

I'm in the US Air Force. I've been on active duty for a little over 21 years now and I work in the aircraft maintenance field. My specialty is aircraft armament systems.
We're the ones who maintain the mechanical/electrical components of any weapons related components on the planes, and we're also the ones who load the bombs and missiles. Pretty cool job!

When I grow up, I want to be a cowboy or an astronaut.

My "occupation" is wibbly-wobbly.... Until recently, I had been enrolled in university (even though I am now over 40) and was working on my Masters Degree program. For reasons I won't go into, I have had to put my studies on hold, and I now have most of my masters degree time under my belt, but not quite (sigh). Anyway, if I was working in my field I would would be an archaeologist. Currently, however, I am a work-at-home dad of a four-yr-old (well, almost 4) and do various things like making castings and stuff like that for a bit of extra $.

    Love the boots, man.

I work as a full-time painter on weekdays, and every other weekend I pull some hours at the local nursing home as a housekeeping aide. Not sure if I'll stick around the latter job for too much longer.

    Human Capital Management Services.
    Boring. As. Hell.
More or less, it's a staffing agency for IBM and some other software comapanies. Individual consultants and 1099 people send their invoices for hours worked to me, I process them, and make sure the people get paid. The work is tedious and repetitive, and while my department is all cool people, everybody else in the company is mean and not-so-cool. Definitely pays my bills, and funds the costuming hobby.
When I turn 21 I will try to get a bartending job on the side for some extra dough.

    I'm a peon.

As of right now I do concrete work (Sidewalks, drives, mobile home pilars and foundations, mobile home people are great to work with. ), I've also recently added water services under my belt, which went alot smoother than I could of expected. But later on, I have plans for Hollywood. *smells hands* "Supastar!" I realy have no idea what my profesion will be as of yet.....I've thought about 5-6 things, but they all have draw backs of some kind, and there's deffintly no buisness around here for anything.

I am a planner/buyer. I spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each day of someone else's money

Prior to that, I worked as an electronics technician, specializing in industrial electronics- drives for motor speed control. I did field service for companies and fixed their assembly lines, HVAC drives, printing presses, wherever there are big electrical motors.

Hey this is a great idea!! Well, I am currently a full time student at Florida State University (FSU). And for money, I work on campus and off campus for fast food. It sucks but it is a job for money. Other then that I am a fully licensed bartender and do freelancing jobs around the area. GREAT money but to random to count on. I am going for Geography degree focusing on Geology. I basically study rocks and where rocks are at. For free time....wait there is no free time. When I should be sleeping, I am working on the Fett. ROTJ all the way!!! Cheers!

HAHA! You ALMOST sound like me! But I don't have the degrees.

I am a "starving artist". I'm trying to get my work seen more. Getting ready for a couple shows now. Hope something good comes out of them! Also just had one of my pieces published in a book. No money from it though. Hence the reason I am a "starving artist". LOL!

By day, I'm an advanced technical support specialist for Sprint. At night, I'm either DJing (although not in a strip club), or playing keyboards (also, unfortunately, not in a strip club).

I own the Starwerks Karaoke entertainment company, and I'm 'mobilizing' the business in October. I hope to make it my only source of income sometime in 2009!

I probably have THE most boring job here. I'm an Air Conditioning Duct Mechanic. Basically, I run jobs from time to time, but most of the time I install sheet metal ductwork on commercial job sites. Right now, I'm working at a local college on remodeling the Fine Arts building (the EXACT same stage I sang on when I went to that college 12 years ago.)

All this talk about going back to school (and working at the college) has made me want to go back. So, probably this weekend, I'm enrolling in an online film school!

    Let's make a movie!

Nothing too exciting, Admin Asst. But the cool thing is that we are a very small office. 3 employees and the president. It can get super hectic and crazy, but there is some flexibilty, no time clock to punch, and I can get on the internet, when possible.

I can also take over the spare office at lunch to make patterns or cut out a flightsuit or whatever.

By dark of night, you can find me huddled over my sewing machine, muahahahahah

I worked on US Navy aircraft engines like turbo fans, turbo props and turbo shafts for about 16 years or so. After 10 yrs. of active duty I enlisted in the reserves for another 6 years but worked full time as a computer operator which involves working with Cray systems, IBM RS400s and tape silos. Later on, I worked for a financial company as a computer operator working on SQL query language and some SQL server cluster administration. Since the birth of my daughter in 2005, I have been a part-time realtor and a full-time dad...boy I really miss talking to adults and doing challenging things!

Federal Firefighter for the Navy, same kind of work as the city dose just not as many calls and gets paid a LOT better

Also im the Station Chief/Team Chief for my Army Reserve unit. Im a firefighter there also. Well not so much a firefighter, more like a paper pusher these days. About to become the acting first sergeant here shortly from what im being told; but ive been told that for a while. All the responsibility none of the pay

So if anyone on the Houston area is interested in becoming a Army Reserve firefighter let me know. I know cheap plug

COOL! I too have a B.A. in Anthropology. From the University of Memphis. It makes my fedora and Wested Jacket fit better! My day job, however, is Department Manager(Seasonal Dept.) for Lowe's Home Improvements here in Corbin, Ky (Birthplace of KFC). I did spend 5 years as a Casino Host at Hollywood Casino in Tunica, MS back in the 90's. DREAM JOB for a single guy, however, I was married with children. No longer have the wife, but have full custody of my son and daughter. So it's ALL GOOD!

I worked part time as a cash register jockey, but have quit to finish up my last semester of college. In December I'll be a graduate with a degree in communications/PR so not really sure what I'm going to be other than very happy to have it over with.

I am a product designer, currently working for a product design consultancy called Edge Product Development in Newtown, PA. I'm working on designing next generation Military Body armor, amongst other projects. The armor project just takes up most of my time.
Previously I've worked as a mechanic for a police department for 7 years, and worked as a product designer for Hasbro toys, Fisher Price toys, Frontgate Catalogue, and Ethicon Endo Surgery.

I'm a flight instructor and recently promoted to stagecheck airmen (which is essentially a pilot who conducts the academy flight exams.) This is a VERY fun job, but the promotion means I work long hours ... which is why I don't get a chance to visit here as much as I use to. Anyway, I'll probably be flying a Boeing-737 in about 2 years and will obtain my dream job of a Boeing-747 captain in about 7 years. Looking forward to it.

Here's a recent picture of me:
