what was the 1st thing you would change about episode 1?

CGI has a place in special effects, but it should be used in moderation. The prequil trilogy was like an advertisement for LFL's new CGI department. When Lucas made "Star Wars" (what we now call A New Hope) back in 1976 he was creating a mythology for the modern world. He was also using a lot of the techniques he learned in film school for how to tell a story in more ways than just with words. ANH was like a silent film in structure. Although much of the dialogue was important to the progression of the story, the real momentum was in the way the characters were portrayed and in the way the film looked. The music carried as much of the story as anything else, and that was intentional. The use of light and dark areas, the shape of a room, the colours of costumes and props, the distance the camera was from an actor's face, the fact that everything looked used and worn out, the relationship between the characters.... all these things made the original trilogy great. Look at how many people still love the OT, even though by todays standards the special effects are lacking. Obviously there is something else going on. Whatever that "something else" is, does not appear to be present in the prequil trilogy.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think the entire PT is aweful. I have a copy of episodes I, II and III, and I watch them from time to time. There are things I very much like about them. I thought Ani's mother was the best actor in Ep I, and it's too bad that either she did not have a bigger role or that other actors did not follow her lead. Qui Gon was acted quite well, but I found there was a lot more that could have been done with his character.

I found ep II was less disappointing than ep I, but even as I sit here and type I find it difficult to recall much about it to talk about.

Over all, ep III was the best of the prequil trilogy. There was, I think, a little more character development, and more about what actually happened. However, I was put off by the fact that no matter where you looked at any given second there was always something moving in the background. One could not let the eye rest and just watch the characters. There were always things flying around and stuff - another argument that it was little more than a reason for CGI.

I personally thought Natalie Portman was the worst actor of the bunch. In every film. Now, it could be that her lines were poorly written.

Theres 'Thats whats wrong with the galaxy, no one helps eachother...' or whatever. And the angel line was something my russian friends in college would use at closing time at the club.

I think the key to the prequils is this.

'It is what it is'. It is in fact, the true vision of starwars. For some reason, all the fans have one version, and the creator has another. You have to just agree to dissagree.

Starwars is my favorite 'theme' or 'subject' but not my favorite 'movie'.

While I loved them as a kid, the fact of the matter is, they were never works of the dramatic arts. What made them so special is the time you spent, being luke, and han in the back yard. Playing with your toys, and speculating 'what ifs'. The let down is the fact that most of our 'what if's' were wrong:).

To me starwars is like a relationship that gets better the more you think back on it.

Starwars is great for what it is to me, not necessarily what it is:)

I have a few ex girlfriends that I seem to remember them in a much better light than what was probably reality too:)

The trade federation should have instead been the Mandolorian race which also would have made them who the clones and Jedi fought in the clone wars.

Actually, not a bad idea.

I would have liked it if Ani were older in TPM. Not a child. That way we could have disposed of much of the love story in the first movie.

2nd movie should have detailed the clone wars.

I also would have cast Jim Caviezel as Anakin. Anyone who saw The Count of Monte Cristo knows that he can absolutely play the very young man role (before he goes to prison) and also the 'man' role. Plus, he is a phenomenal actor and would have kicked butt as Ani.

Anyway, my .02

My question is what one thing would you change if Lucas asked you?

MORE POOP AND FART JOKES! Seriously.... you just Can't have enough of those in a serious film centered around political intrigue and the fate of a way of life. Really think they should have applied the George Lucas method to Apocalypto... that movie seriously lacked in fart jokes...

....

I guess it depends on what you consider "dramatic arts", but I would have to say that the original SW movies had a great effect on me. The only other movie that I can say had any real lasting effect on me was Raiders of the Lost Ark, which I know is widely enjoyed by a great number of others as well. Again, not critically acclaimed for its "drama". Clearly there is something else going on. I can't think of a single work of "high drama" that I can say I am a fan of. In fact, I'm hard pressed to think of a good example of "high drama" at all. Oh, I just thought of one - Casablanca. Possibly one of the greatest dramas of all time. And when you think about it, it has a lot in common with movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The day we stop believing democracy will work is the day we lose it. lets prey that day never comes.- the naboo leaders I SWEAR THEY TALK MORE BACKWARDS THAN YODA!

"something something something..........dark side!" something something something.......complete!" now that is some good writing!!

The only cool things that came out at that film were Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. And Darth Maul got cheated on screen time. Thats my $2 Dollars

Amen and So Say We All! :D  Qui-Gon is the only Jedi I've ever liked in both the OT and the Prequels. And Maul... well... what can I say... ;) Why did George have him stand there like an idiot?? Puhleeze.... the Sith was kicking butt the whole time... and then he just stands there.... arrggh!!!!:angry:angry

In regards to the screen time, yes, it didnt do Maul any justice. As the death of Maul AND Jango, it came tooo easily compared to their *suggested* abilities. Its a shame..

Where to start, ahh The gungans and the whole underwater thing, the kid playing ani, battle droids, mediclorians, the theed palace assention guns - all a bunch of ****.

Totally. AND, as far as Padme (looovee Natalie but.....) I have always thought Chloe Sevigny would have been a great casting choice. One, her voice and some of her demeanor and manersisms are very Carrie Fisher, and yet the blond hair, very Luke (i.e., as seen in various scenes in American Psycho) I alway thought it would have been a good way to offset the "twins" as far as believable cross-casting continuity. Otherwise, Scarlet Johanson :lovestaring in TPM when Anakin was already a young-adult Jedi Knight and no Jar Jar

oh dont get me strated Darth Maul was so ripped off his skills where way ahead of Qui gon and Obi wan lets face it he damn near killed Qui Gon in that scene where he does a flip of his bike and he hadnt even raised a sweat to have that fight scene end with him just standing there and being cut in half was all wrong I realise we needed to keep Obi Wan alive but couldnt he have just droped down and escaped way to little screen time in my opion Darth Maul should have been in ep2 as well

all that said I am eternally gratefull George Lucas was brave enough to make 6 Star Wars movies and not just set back on the first 3

any of you guys heard any thing more about the Star Wars television series thats apparently going to be produced
