    weapon question

I have a question regarding the incident in Colorado that happen the opening week end of Dark Knight Rises? Since then security has tighten in a lot of places especially where I work in Florida. Now my security company and others will not allow anyone with any type of weaponry even if it is so obvious a toy. So which means when a game is released, free comic day, or any other type of event to troop it have to be done weaponless. Due to the now stricter implied rules are now in effect for the safety of all patrons. My question is do you think that they change the requirement of having to have a weapon to be approved as in the Tusken Raider ? As I was told you would not be accepted without a weapon for them or that not true? All I can get is optional but on many sites the weapon is require for any 501st approval.

    Re: weapon question

as far as i know, weapons have always been optional and not required for any costume approval, for reasons much like those. here's a link to the tusken CRL on the legion website: 501st Legion: Vader's Fist as you'll see the gafii stick is at the bottom of the page and listed as optional.

    Re: weapon question

Weapons are always optional for costume approval. Because of different gun laws across the world, it would be impossible to require something that might be against the law in another country. The CRL's for blasters and such is simply for those that have them, they should meet those requirements.

Exactly what saint_nasty and locitus said. You do not need to have a weapon for when you submit your approval photos of your costume. Weapons are optional for all costumes

    Re: weapon question

That's good to know! I've been having the same concern myself (even though I am just working on the hasbro blaster lol). Where I live, it's still allowed as long as it follows all regulations of weapon safety and stuff (I left the orange cap where it is since I don't want to mess with it).

However, in certain conventions where people are allowed to volunteer as security, they just harassed me constantly the last convention I went to about a sword I made even though it had "their" safe to use ribbon. It wouldn't have been a huge deal, but it was like every five to ten minutes I'd have some dude get in my face about getting my weapon safety approved! It's not like I concealed it or anything either (in fact, it was in clear view at all times).

My opinion; weapons aren't worth it anymore. They can be cumbersome anyway and I don't care to deal with annoying security volunteers who feel they have to bully con-goers around because they're authorized to carry real weapons. That's just not cool.

Glad the 501st list weapons as optional. I don't think a hasbro blaster painted over would cut it lol!

Interesting how you have such a hassle with toy guns in the US, when anyone without a criminal record can buy a real gun to walk around with. In Sweden I've never had any problems at all with my blasters.

I actually think that is why we have such problems with toy guns here, because it is so easy to get a real one. They are making the toy guns look more and more like real ones that, to be safe, people in security hassle people more.

Wouldn't it make more sense to hassle the people with real guns instead?

    Re: weapon question

It's unfortunate and disturbing how inventive people can be about concealing real weapons, plus all the crime recently with shootings within the US. I am by no means against strict weapon policies (I honestly believe in significantly limiting what type of weapons and so forth are able to be sold to the public and what not should be firmly established). My problem is when people hassle me at conventions when they already approve my stuff as "non-lethal" over and over despite the labels, tags, and any other form of weapon marking. I don't even get snippy with the guys even if they are overly rude either so I don't understand the need to get to that point if I'm being friendly and compliant.

I wish times were more innocent ...

    Re: weapon question

This from the kraytclan.com tusken requirement why I asked and also now where I work we now will not allow adults or children of adult size wear any costume at our location.Which sucks for trooping I know the security reason but the taking away from children heroes like seeing Fett in person or Vader

    Costume: Tusken Raider (adult male)
    Prefix: DZ
    Detachment: Krayt Clan

NOTE: All items must be weathered, dirtied, and/or tattered to simulate aging in a desert environment

    Required

ALL of the following costume elements are required in order to be eligible for 501st Legion membership for this costume.

    Mask
•a fully wrapped head with the following features - sand-colored cloth head wrappings, leather or leather-like muzzle, silver/aluminum detail pieces to include four tapered head spikes, two cylindrical eye cones with 2 slots cut into the underside of each, two cheek tusks (blood spitters), and one nose piece with 2 vertical slots in it. screening or tinted lenses must be installed in the eye cones and muzzle so that eyes and mouth are not visible from the outside of mask.

    Breather (ANH)
•an object worn around the neck, consisting of a small 3" to 4. leather wrapped cylinder with tapered metal gaskets on either end connecting to a silver tube, which runs around the neck, securing the piece to the wearer. A prequel Tusken should have a sand-colored neck wrap made of fabric. It should hide the skin between the mask and the robe,

    Robe
•an inner full-length robe made of a textured, sand-colored fabric reaching within 2-3 inches of the floor. .
    Gloves and bindings
•sand-colored cloth or leather gloves with cloth wrappings. These start at the palm and continue up the arm until concealed within robe. The wrappings should conceal all skin between the gloves and the robe.
    Footwear
•boots or shoes, covered with cloth wrappings. These continue up the leg until concealed within the robe. The wrappings should cover the boot/shoes and conceal all skin or street clothes between the footwear and the robe.

    Bandoliers
•a Tusken must have at least one bandolier; preferably one of these (from ANH):
•leather Henry Martini British .303 bandolier pattern
•leather Lee Metford (Boer War era) British .303 bandolier pattern
•leather Lee Enfield British .303 bandolier 1903 pattern
A prequel Tusken may utilize the leather Swedish Mauser bandolier. Other leather WW2 era style bandoliers (or similar recreations) matching the styles in the movie may also be acceptable.

    Weapon
•a Gaderffii (gaffi stick) of similar design to the styles used in ANH or AOTC, or a sniper rifle of similar design to the styles used in ANH or TPM.

    Approved options
•a third leather bandolier may be worn around the waist.

    Recommended
These costume elements are in addition to the required list of costume parts and are optional. This list provides costuming options that increase the level of accuracy of the costume and give a costumer ideas to consider for improvement.

    Outer robe
•a very loose fitting adn open outer robe made of a similar textured, sand-colored fabric. This is worn over the bandolier(s) and inner robe and reaches at least the bottom of the inner robe. Should extend along the arm to the wrist.

    Sash
•a 6" to 7. wide .girth belt. that ties in the back, made of similar fabric to the robes. No excess should hang from the knotting or attachment. This would run under any waist bandolier.

    Bandoliers
•a second bandolier, as listed in the bandoliers section.

    Optional
Elements listed as acceptable here may not be traditionally associated with a costume, but are not so unreasonable as to detract from it. Please keep in mind that the following items may not be allowed at certain canon/high profile appearances.

•a utility strap with an appropriate bag or pouches may substitue for the second bandolier..
•any other item that looks to be an appropriately odd and unidentifiable item that a nomadic dweller might use or carry.

OK read this as it may be hard to understand...To get approval you take pics with your gear you have your rifle/stick whatever for your tuscan...You troop at an event where said "weapon" is not authorized YOU DONT BRING IT

    Re: weapon question

I have an even more simple soloution. If an event requires that no weapons be carried, I either don't go in costume or I don't go at all.

That is nuts. I'm surprised I haven't seen that circulated around. I'm in LE in TX. When did they find that?
