Venting a bit.

I just had to say something about this. My wife's friend has an awesome Halloween party every year, and seeing as how I'm leaving for basic soon I decided to go all out and put together my 1st Fett.
I've been working on it before I started posting (downloading templates and the like). I was so excited!
After a few months of building, ordering, painting, weathering, and sewing I finally had it all together and took a few photos and, obviously, started showing off my awesome new Boba.
Low and behold, one of my friends is scrambling to get a Fett costume together in time too... Needless to say my jaw is on the floor.
And what did he say when he was reminded I was going as Fett? "So, mine's better."
I'm pretty confident he can't get the pieces together in time, but the nerve of it all... is aggravating to say the least. My wife doesn't see this as the mortal sin that I do, so I just had say something here.

I would say that try keep in your focus as to what is your main purpose in making this costume.

Yes, that's wasn't too cool when your friend said that his costume is "better". But think about your purpose. Are you doing this because you want to outshine him and everyone & everybody at the party, or are you doing it so you can have have fun at the party? Are you doing it because you love Boba Fett, or because you want to get the most attention at the Halloween party?

Since you also mentioned that your friend is not going to have it ready in time for the Halloween party, you shouldn't really worry about it. Make the best costume as best as you can, and don't worry who is going to be better.

If you just want make a Boba Fett for a one night Halloween party, then go ahead and keep doing what you've been doing in making preparations.

However, if you want to have a close to a screen accurate costume of Boba Fett then, you have to realize that this is going to take some time to get all those parts together. It will also take a lot of serious money to get it all completed. (It's no exaggeration to say that Boba Fett is one of the most difficult Star Wars costumes to make.) It took some people here a few years to complete everything, and even then, they are still constantly upgrading their costume. Unless you are super rich like Bill Gates, you aren't going to be able to purchase a complete Boba Fett costume that's close to screen accurate overnight.

Keep in mind also that the average person is not going to know the difference between an ESB Fett or ROJ Fett. There are some people don't even know what Star Wars is. (And yes, they do exist. During one Halloween when we were trooping in our Star Wars costumes as Darth Vader & his Imperial Stormtroopers, a blond girl in a miniskirt came up to us, took some pictures and she asked, " Who are you guys supposed to be?" One person sitting on the side commented that "They are characters from one of the biggest money making movies of all time.")

My recommendation? Go with you have, and just go & have fun at the Halloween party. You aren't trying to submit your costume to the 501st Legion. It's for a one night Halloween party. Unless, the party is filled with 501st Legion members or people from the Dented Helmet, the average person isn't really going to notice that your jetpack is off or you don't have the right gauntlets. (Besides, I'm sure your costume will be far better than the Rubies costume version of Boba Fett.)

If you still want a close to screen accurate Boba Fett later, you could always start saving up after you graduate from boot camp. (Besides, you are leaving for Boot Camp soon. I would be more concerned about getting in shape, and building up your strength & stamina for Boot Camp than a one night Halloween party.)

Put your rifle up to his helmet and repeat after me:

"You didn't earn this armor! You didn't earn my reputation. You called me a 'fossil'. If you were going to be me, you should have learned from this fossil. You'll never be me."

Get into it and you will be loved. Additionally, invest in some kind of headset microphone... really will send your costume over the top!

EDIT: And don't forget; imitation is the highest form of flattery, your friend was probably ultra-stoked on your Fett costume and therefore wanted to replicate it. "Mine'll be better" could have just been an on-the-fly comeback for something he realized is a little offside.

2 comb the TDH for the best tutorials on construction and weathering.
3 build the best suit while chanting the mantra "I MUST WIN!"

YES! That is the smartest thing I've ever heard anyone say about anything.

my vote is still for the blaster bolt through the back of the head execution style, much cleaner and with less of a fuss

... hey maybe that guy is looking at the Rubie's costume... When you finally see him wear it you can have a good, hard laugh!

...and good luck in boot camp!

Well... what can one do... when you pick something popular its no surprise to find more than one person with the same idea.

Just wear yours with pride and don't let it get to you.

:)

Take the high road.... Offer help since he is doing it such short notice... Direct him here to buy parts. ;)

Haha I love the smell of sabotage in a morning. I suppose if he orders from Star Fortress the chances of him actually getting his stuff, let alone it being of anything resembling decent quality so he'd the be forced to show up in his Star Wars boxers and his face painted green and red in Fett colours. Come to think of it, I might try that myself ;)
