Jul 4, 2009, 2:42 AM - Vash's "Proof" Arc Reactor from Iron Man attempt - NEW PICS AND VIDEO #1

I posted this on the RPF, but I forgot to post it here as well:

Since I've been on an Iron Man kick lately, I decided to finally get one of these done, so after a few hours work from designing to routing, here's where I'm at.

I still need to color the clear plex to a teal hue, add the inner silver ring, middle light and the outer ring before the "Proof" circle.
Of course, paint, copper wire and lights will also be included.
I may also tweak the sign to have a more accurate font.

I know other folks have done this before and better, but I figured since I can't afford to buy one right now, why not make it cheap while I still have the tools available.
Anyway, I'll post more progress as I get them.

    Thanks for looking!

Here is where I'm at today:

I made a new plaque with a more accurate font and improved some of the details.

Still need to do the wire wrap, make the housing, which will replace the ring I made which is a bit too big. I'm also going to try to do the middle wring in alluminum or find a chrome ring at the hardware store.
All I need to do now is paint, add the screw details, lighting and get a box case and I should be done!

    Looks GREAT!!
I was lucky enough to get one of Jmtwo's on the 1st run!
And yours looks really good so far!

Yeah, Jmtwo's is one of the best out there. However, I wanted to give it a go since I ran out of prop money to purchase one of these and it seemed like a fun project.

I tried seeing what a wire wrap would look like and I think it looks pretty decent.
I also found one of those tap light housing was perfect as a stand in until I make a the permanent housing for the arc reactor.
Still need to add color, but I think it's getting there:

    Here's more progress.
I used a bit of artistic license for the fins, since the only scenes I could find this is when Tony Stark breaks the display case and the arc reactor falls out.
I had to cut 22 individual fins and the three different levels. I'm sure there is a found part for this, but I haven't found it yet.
My dad also hooked me up and made me an acrylic case, but I have to make my own base.
I still need to scratch build the tube that connects the arc to the base, and of course the lighs

In case the two folks is still watching this , here's my latest update:
I still have to paint the vent areas and add the soldered gold wire. I'm still getting the lights together, but that should be pretty easy. . . I hope .

I placed a silver ring, which I may add to or replace the silver center rings with.

    More to come.

    Thanks a bunch!
I only have one made at the moment and two unassembled, but I'm trying to work out some way to make these cost effective.

Awesome work as I said on the rpf before; cost effective would be great but it would be worth it to me trying to dig up the scratch for it anyway, just would take a little longer.

    Thanks so much guys!

Here's where I'm at today with this project:

I made the base and stand and temporarily attached everything to take a picture of what it will look like upon final assembly.
I still have a few details to add and of course the lights which I already have the parts for. I'm hoping to be finished by next week.

    Thanks agan guys!

I finally found the leds I had that were already wired up to use with a 12v transformer.
These LEDs are super bright white and the best part is, no need for me to solder anything!

Here are some pics showing how bright they are.
The left pic shows it in the dark (well at least with the living room lights turned off).
The right pic is with FLASH from the camera.

A close up pic in my brightly lit kitchen:

Now that I got the lights out of the way, I just need to do the gold wire and put everything together in the case.

Here's a quick video my wife helped me out with:
    http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q...t=MVI_3159.flv

I love the fact that when the light is unplugged, it does a cool flicker.

    Thanks!
I just noticed that since the base for the middle rings is opaque, I need to make a new one so that the light can shine through.
