Is the US becoming the new Sweden?

I like Robyn, I've seen a few videos of her.

Sweden seems like a place where I could be happy. Plus, I enjoy winter weather, snowmobiling....

If you live anywhere north of Missouri the winters are nearly as bad (albeit for 4 months rather than 6). Granted Coastal regions of both are vastly more temperate.

As far as politics go, everyone is unique, and no nation's people are completely the same. That level of assimilation doesn't exist, and it is not fair to stereotype. Saudi Arabia is just as much like China as Russia is. You can pretty much throw any three countries in that statement and find people that are similiar.

is being "swedish" really that bad?

Not if you are a chef or a member of the bikini team!

Bah-dum-dum-dum! Thank you! Thank you! I will be here all night!

Seriously, as was posted above, while we all tend to do it at some point, lumping any large body of people into a single stereotype is going to end up getting criticism.

All Star Wars fans are nerds.

All hot chicks are dumb.

All southerners are inbred.

Anytime you use "all" or even "most" in a sentence like that, you are just begging for trouble.

I have never been to Sweden but would love to go someday. What political views the swedish hold are of little import to me.

i actually have no idea what sweden is like. at all. you could all live in crystal palaces and have cookies for breakfast and i'd never know. apparently lingonberries are big there, or so says ikea.

This could be a heated discussion, but I doubt this thread will last here that long

i doubt that this will become a heated discussion... but i do belive that you are right on the second part. Give it a week and this thread will be so far down on the thread list no one will bother with it.

I just found it extremly hilarious when economic commentators in an obvious agitated state blurt out warnings about the US becoming Swedish... of all places.. why not france or finland? equally absurbed but still..

Anyway.. i've gotten it of my chest.. i'll now watch as this thread goes down memory lane into blissful oblivion. :D

El1te, Norway was part of Sweden until the early 20th century. But the rivalry runs deep. :) I'm about half Swedish, and get no end of guff for it from my half-Norwegian cousins. *chuckle*

As a Norwegian, i have to say that the both countries are quite the same. Almost the same nature, same value of the currency etc.etc. We are friends now.:cheers
