Tropic Thunder - Downey Jr.s costume

Patches Above US ARMY tape:
Master Parachutist, Subdued
The one above that, im really not sure about, but it looks like a Army Aviator Badge, Subdued, of some sort.

I don't think so.
Looks to me like the CIB (Combat Infantryman's Badge)

and yes, I do have one. (Operation Just Cause, Panama)
It's on my uniform just above the Jump Wings (Just like MDJ has his)

Here's some info on the CIB & how to earn one;

I really can't preach enough about how cost effective it is to hit up local surplus stores and flea markets to get a lot of this stuff, since 'Nam gear (especially 1967+) isn't terribly difficult to come by. Here are some shots of my gear so far:

I do realize I'm missing several pieces, like the buttpack and second canteen, but to give you an example of just how little I've spent, the only two things on the mannequin that I've spent more than $10 on is the shirt and the Colt .45 holster, which were $25 and $15 respectively.

These boots I picked up at the Labor Day weekend flea market in Hillsville, VA (which is absolutely massive, might I add) for $5. They look dusty because I worked in them this past weekend, but the previous owner took very good care of them, with very little wear in the canvas uppers, and slightly worn soles.

My M1 helmet and liner I picked up at a surplus store for $20, and the Mitchell pattern helmet cover I got here for $12.80 and free 6-12 day shipping.

You can see there is some damage to the front of the helmet cover, but I think it adds a taste of realism.

Also, thought I'd add that the steel pot (not the liner) is Korean War era/pre-Vietnam. The chinstrap clamps are painted OD green, which was only done between 1951 and 1960.

Anyway, sorry to sort of hijack your thread by showing off my own gear, but I wanted to share the wealth.:cheers
