Traveling with your Fett costume

So what are your experiences with air travel and your Fett costume? Any special precautions you took to make sure it got to your destination in one piece? How about international flights and customs, what did they have to say about your gear?

Especially interested in travel from Canada to the US or vice versa.

Well from what I have found so far it would appear as though it goes without saying that most if not all items in a Fett costume should be checked luggage. The box should be marked as "Fragile" and "Theatrical Props" and then declared as such to the agent taking your checked bags. Another option would be to see if your destination hotel is willing to accept and hold a package until you arrive.

There doesn't appear to be anything saying a prop EE3 can't be transported, as long as it is marked as stated above.

I guess the next thing to look at would be a sturdy enough box, crate or trunk to pack the soft and hard parts into.

I'm thinking about this topic. I have plans on being at SDCC 2014 via truck or SUV from central Alberta, Canada. I was thinking of storing the hard parts in some bubble wrap in a couple waterproof bins attached to the roof rack for the trip.

Yeah, there are a few threads on here about how to pack your costume. I've mostly seen 'pelican' style crates with foam cutouts for the pieces. Best ones usually are on rollers :)

The helmet can go into a padded helmet bag (I've seen these around) and taken as carry on.

I'll definitely be looking into this further closer to celebration 7, but I imagine going through customs the way you suggested is the proper way

I have been wondering this myself. I had planned on checking the bucket, but I can't see many of the other props making it through security unless it's in a checked bag. Then the question arises: What is the best way to pack it inside a suitcase?

Well I am not sure the best way to pack the Fett for air travel, I decided against taking mine with me. I did however get a large Pelican case, it is similar to the Canadian Military MOB Box. The entire costume will pack into the case with a bit of planning, however there is no room for foam padding, the MOB is full!
