    Transformers 2...is it that bad

Disclaimer:I have not seen the movie yet

From some of the postings I have read at other sites the storyline for the Transform is not that good and the first one is better. And that the movie is pretty much nothing but Michael Bay dramatics with CG.
Should I wait for the DVD???

Yes it is that bad. If you can deal with not seeing it on the big screen save your money and wait.

No it wasn't that bad. We could have done without the twins...but it was actually kinda funny to have some comic relief. There is definitely more human interaction in this one, but all in all the movie was what I was expecting.

Re: Transformers 2...is it that bad

Just watched the first one again tonight in preparation for No 2.... and man... there is a lot of stinker moments, even in the first movie. I do enjoy the action, so I hope the action will win me over in the sequel. It is primarily the "slow" and "humor" moments that kill the first one for me. The writing and acting are so bad it is painful and embarrassing to watch... and I swear they used the same music as Con Air/Armageddon/The Rock in the first movie... Hope it is something different in this one!

You say Con-Air, Armegeddon, The Rock like it's a bad thing. I love the music from these.

Re: Transformers 2...is it that bad

No it's not that bad at allllllll, as a matter of fact, my girlfriend (who by the way hadn't seen the first film and knew nothing about The Transformers, Period!) and I went to see it on the IMAX screen on Saturday and we both loved it! We were both thoroughly entertained from just a... Great Summer Fun! Action Packed! Special Effect Extravaganza! No Holds Barred! Just Entertain me for a couple of hours action flick that was fun, now let's go get something to eat point of view! And again, just like Terminator Salvation, that's all I expected, that's all I wanted!

I keep reading this "Respect the source material!" For Pete's Sake, the original source material was a bunch of extended commercial's aimed at selling a butt load of toys! And if you go back and watch those cartoons again, just like anything else fondly remembered from that era from the late 70's to early 80's. Six Million Dollar Man, Speed Racer, Voltron, Thundar The Barbarian, Etc! Etc! Etc! The overall animation, the corny dialogue... A-Lot of it was ****, things remembered are much better than they actually were! And this is coming from someone who loved all those things and still does, but only for the memories!

Other than a few things if you were you calling all the shots, yeah, I might of taken this out or it might of cool if they would've done this, but really, who cares! It's a great summer popcorn flick that if you are ever going to see it, now's the time, because it just begs to be seen on the big screen, IMAX if you can! There's soooo many other bigger issues to worry about in this day and age, so just go check it out, sit back and enjoy my friend, ENJOY!!!

I tend to be overly critical of films (unless I'm a huge fan and have to lie to myself, prequels anyone?) so I walked out of Transformers a little disappointed. I can't say that I didn't enjoy because I did! It has a lot of action, but that is kind of the problem. The ENTIRE movie is one action sequences after another. Sure, it kept my attention and was enjoyable, but I tend to be the kind of guy that enjoys a good script and plot.

I feel the same about T:Salvation and Transformers: decent, fun, action-packed, and attention grabbing. The only problems are the absence of character interactions/bonds, and the fact that the overall plot was poorly executed (in both films).

Yeah, I hated the twins. Not funny at all...just annoying and lame. Reminded me of Jar Jar, and that is a terrible thing.

Kody, there's actually no time for you to be giving movie reviews, back to work on someone's stuff!

But really, how much plot development do we need in order to set up the next big fight scene between those Big! Huge! Shinny! Robots from Outerspace!

Giant robots fighting. It doesn't get much better than that. : )
    Special effects were amazing.
Dialogue was... Non-existant, but I really didn't need that much anyways. In only got in the way of the super cool explosions.

As for the "twins" The instant they came on screen I hated them, but by the end of the film I found myself childishly snickering at their remarks.
Long-short of it; I thought it was good enough to see on the big screen. Not a waste of money and it satisfied my urge to spend some cash that night.

Go see it. Make your own critique.

I loved it! Lots of action. Seems like there's not a minute that goes by without something being blown to hell. The special effects are amazing and there are tons more transformers than there were in the last film. It's got to be one of the single biggest special effects shows in history. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The battle at the pyramids is crazy.I personly think this second film is better than the first. Definately worth seeing in the theater.

My wife and I saw it at the midnight showing when it came out and both liked it. My biggest complaint with both the original and this one is the look of the robot modes; they are too...complex(maybe that's the best way to describe it) there is so much going on visually it makes it harder to tell who's who in robot mode, and it makes the toys not look like the movie lol.

Other than that, thought it was a good movie, Devastator was cool! Again too complex, and I could have done without the walking on all fours and sucking everything into itself to "eat" but cool none the less, especially the sequence of him combining.

I say see it in theaters.

I loved it. Megan fox is ummm... a fox!! If I would have anything negative to say it would be that there was, dare I say it?? too much action!?!?!?! its almost like I was in the chair during the Clockwork Orange "reprogramming" I would have cut about 20min out 2.5 hours is way to long for a non stop action movie!

Haha! I had to take a break, right?

    POSSIBLE SPOILER

I forgot to say that my biggest problem with the film was the human transformer. Very lame IMO. That isn't transformers....that is Terminator stuff.

Like I already said, I enjoyed it so go and see it. Just don't expect to be absolutely blown away.

My 12 year old son just saw it. He typically loves anything that is, as he puts it, 'blowy uppy'. He had enjoyed the first one, as did I. Anyway, he thought the sequel was just awful, one of the worst things he had seen - though he liked some of the effects.

He thought the film pretty much just ripped off other sci-fi flicks he had seen, but that it had added the annoyance factor of watching Jar-Jar Binks for two and a half hours.

I must admit, am disappointed. I was hoping it would be good and was looking froward to seeing it. Based on just the scenes my son described, however, I will wait for the rental.

Outside of Trek, it's been a disappointing summer for action flicks...

it has good effects and really good action. Good Transfomer fun.

    However...

There is zero character development for the new Transformers (Arcee, Chromia, Sideswipe, Jolt)

There are a lot of poorly acted scenes, and cheesy dialogue.

The humor was for the most part directed towards little kids, especially the twins, mudflap and skids (hated them, just as annoying as Jar Jar Binks)

There is an increase in language, sexual content, and even drug use (parents be informed).

That said, if there were things that you thought were bad and annoying in the first film, they are all present in this one too, and in greater numbers.

I saw it, twice, and I thought it was great. It was way better than the other junk I've seen come out latley and it was genually entertaining.

I thought the college he Sam went to was pretty funny. Where were all the hot supermodel coeds back when I was in school?

Good movie, critics are idiots, and I would definatly see a sequel.

everyone is expecting some amazing story. For movies like this it's always been about how amazing the cgi is and the more fighting the better. I loved the movie and wouldn't mind seeing it in the theaters again. There were definite *** moments but overall it was very entertaining. And the twins were not even close to how annoying jar jar was possibly cause they weren't G rated.

Re: Transformers 2...is it that bad

    It's an entertaining flick.

But, you have to go into it expecting it to be what it is, not some expertly written modern masterpiece.

It is a movie based on an 80's cartoon based on a Hasbro toyline. It's BASED on the original cartoon it's NOT the same story. One of the complaints I see about it that annoys me is that "it doesn't follow the orignal cartoon." Did you see the first one before this one? The storyline is definatly skewed. It's a simialr story with the same character but, like most live action movies, it takes it's own storyline rather than repeaing what we've already seen.

It's a typical summer blockbuster... great battles, great CGI, funny moments, hott girls and little in the way of storyline.

If you go to teh theater with the right attitude and expecting it to be no more than what it is, you will greatly enjoy the movie. If you go in there expecting a live action replay of the cartoons or a masterpiece of modern movie writing, you'll be dissappointed.

It was fun, escapist rubbish....which is exactly what I paid for and expected. A Sunday to get out of the real world and get my heart pumping with the action, laugh at the goofs and be only slightly annoyed by Car Car Binks boys. I was not disappointed with anything except the introjection of gratuitous sexual content that was not necessary to keep me entertained and interested. If a movie is going to be aimed at a young crowd, follow that theme all the way through, not pop inappropriate references where not needed. The movie would have been just as interesting without the bathroom tween aged humor. Adding inconsistent college humor to a kiddie/youth oriented movie just makes it look off kilter not more mature. Other than that, I enjoyed the movie.

I'll say what I've said before elsewhere. If you want to do giant robots from space, do giant robots from space. If you want to do Transformers, do Transformers. Michael Bay doesn't give a **** about the Transformers. He is doing giant robots from space and trading on the name. For all folks want to rip on the original for being a twenty-minute toy commercial, it had a better-developed mythos evolve out of it than anyone expected at the time. It was not zero character development and one action sequence linking to the next. I can hear some eyes rolling now, but I'm serious.

There were a lot of possibilities, and all went through the wood-chipper when Michael Bay got ahold of it.

Oh, and the "twins" are supposed to be Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. Fail.

Oh part two, and for all those panting after Megan Fox, she doesn't like men.

Re: Transformers 2...is it that bad

One man...betrayed by his country... alright seriously...

I didn't think it was that bad at all, I accepted it for what it was, a summer action movie, a sequel to make money, and that's that. It's good fun, the twins were funny, the action was cool (What would a big giant robot movie be without non-stop action? I don't wanna watch them talk, if they're not shootin it up, what would happen?) the acting isn't horrible in either the first, or the second, the humor is there on purpose (meant to entertain...) and all in all, while they're not award worthy movies (in my opinion) they are still fun to watch, and worth seeing it in theatres with the blazing sound, and the huge screen. I saw it at midnight with my friends, and it was well worth it, when you have a stomach full of sugar, you pay a lot more attention.

The only thing I didn't like about the film was how the Deceptacons (If I didn't spell that right, deal with it, cause it's a Star Wars forum : P) found out all the vital information in what was about two minutes...otherwise, it was good stuff : P
What also bothers me is that I can't remember what "The Maestro" said in his line that was like "One man, betrayed by his country..." then I forget the rest. Shame on me.

I saw it today, and I have to say I had a blast! Storyline? Whatever, itīs better than the first one, but not Oscar-material to say the least. But I donīt go see movies like these for the great dialogue and deep storyline. This is pure eyecandy! And in my opinion, a must to see in the movietheaters.

Yep, sounds like it's going to be a split, just like the IJ & the Crystal Skull, Wolverine, and Aliens vs Predator. Add some CGI, a few big 'splosions and who really cares about character development, dialogue or story?

Lol - just ribbing you guys. Though this does remind me a little bit of Demo Moore in G.I. Jane when they ask her why she wants to be in the SEALS...

Saw it last night with the wife and we both came away loving it. This has to be the biggest CGI fest ever and I can see why some people find that there's too much going on at once, it was at times sensory overload.
This movie had action by the barrel load, comedy (the twins were not that bad) the acting was far from poor and despite the story being paper thin, it did exactly what it said on the tin. This is giant robots kicking the smeg out of one another not Citizen Kane. If you want plot and depth to a movie this is not for you. If you want robots fighting, explosions, military hardware and cheesy gags go and see this movie as you'll have a ball. It has been said before but I will reiterate. This is not the cartoon and I'm truly thankful for that because it was arse!! A method for flogging toys so kids could pester their parents. And although this movie will have the same effect I'm sure that's not the whole point. I would suggest that it's to have an entertaining couple of hours, but that's just me.
My biggest gripe about this movie is the ballsed up geography in Egypt at the end of the movie.....Since when are the Pyramids next to the Sphinx, or Luxor, or the valley of the Kings or Jordan for that matter. Bay needs to open an atlas!

Anyway I've had my say so I'll shut up.
    Cheers

I took my 8 year old to see it at an I-max .MG as said before sensory overload on the fight scenes when the grappling starts its hard to tell who is who.I thought there was a little more language than needed, after all this is geared towards kids.case in point the flimsy plot.My son enjoyed it and thats all I wanted from it

Re: Transformers 2...is it that bad

I know I am getting to the party a bit late, but we finally saw this over the weekend. Having read MULTIPLE reviews, I went in full ready for a hate-fest... and walked out... pleasantly surprised! I am one of the most critical movie-goers I know. Mirax hates even going to movies with me because she says I can't just enjoy them for what they are but have to pick them apart. Tranformers 2 certainly has its flaws, the majority being in the first half of the film with all of the "human" and "comedy" elements... but once we get into the robots pounding each other to dust parts... whew! I have to say that I honestly felt a little like a kid again... and that is the FIRST time I can say that since... well, since I WAS a kid! T2 really picked up on a corrected a lot of failures in T1. The whole end battle was just unbelievably awesome and everything I would want fighting robots to be! While there is a lot to hate, there is so much to love that I can't help but give this movie a thumbs up!

Simply IMO I also read and heard alot of negative reviews and came out of the theater confused.... I liked all the action and anticipation for the story to unfold in character roles (except the twins) but as it ended i couldnt believe that was the end! The whole movie was like a big 2 hour opening seen that never ended.
    *OK enough negative thinking*
Overall I did like it and would recommend seeing it in theater

please do not refer to this as T2. there is only one T2, and it ain't revenge of the fallen, it's judgement day.
