Ok about 30 mins ago, I walked outside the front of my house to discover a cop outside near my car. My sister and mother and father were here for the time being to celebrate with my girl and I. My car was the last in the drive way. At least 6 feet from the street. So I'm not in the road. But I got a $50 fine (ticket) for having too many cars in my drive way?????? Are they for reals??? I'm getting really sick and tired of the city to find new ways of making money off people.

agreed, contest it Taco. it's your property and if your car wasn't blocking the sidewalk for pedestrian use, then you have nothing to worry about bro.

The same thing happen to me a few years back, and I was unloading Girl Scout Cookies from the car, which was going to take all of 5mins. I wrote my city councilman and contacted a few others, but they did nothing and said I still broke the law. I ended up just paying the fine.

Hey taco I work as a cop and I say contest it. when you go to court try to take your parents as wittnesses if you can, if not then have them write out a statement and have it notorized. Some city laws say you cant have more than so or so many cars but if you can prove that the vehicles where owned by visitors than you should be ok. good luck.

And just to let you know not all cops are dumbarses some of them are good loyal Mandos.

absolutely ridiculous. maybe you should call dateline , lol have them ask *** they think they have time ticketing for that for when they should be out cleaning up some streets.

i'm sick of this kinda stuff here :( we should fine city leaders for wasting our tax money on their paychecks :/

It is your right to contest it. In fact our department expects a certain percentage of people to 1 Call the chief of police to complain and 2 contest issued citations. I recommend you do this because chances are you were issued a citation because someone around you is being a whiny rules laywer and called the police about cars. If That is the case, It is also your right to go on record that it could be harrassment on the said neighbor's part. They often use the department as tool to do their harassment for them.

If you weren't blocking a sidewalk try to contest it. Parking tickets are usually handled differently than moving violations. Probably not a " you testify/cop testify " situation. Our contested parking violations are reviewed by a hearing officer. Advice, be detailed in your declaration, include photos if you can.

I'm a cop in Memphis and we have no such laws. We're too busy with our extrememly violent city to mess with petty stuff like that. That being said, you better stay out of a handicap space. I'll write you in a second. It's a pet peeve of mine. Good luck with that stupid ticket.

I understand all the other kinds of parking tickets, but what harm is having 4 cars in your own driveway, not blocking a thing, do anyone.

Dude they towed my lady's car in front of our apartment. Cost us 500 bucks. The reason being she was parked on the same spot in the street for more than 48 hours.

Mind you we live there.

Yeah that's really crazy Taco, they have the same law in the Illinois township where my parents live and they have a ridiculously long driveway too.

Unfortunately, IMHO you dont have a chance. My wife just went to court for a 50 parking ticket. She we parked our daughters car in front of the house.

Theres a sign that says ' parking this side of street' on theo other side.

I blew a gasket and told her to go to court. She did. When she got to court the parking person (not quite a cop) said 'Umm, theres a sign near the mall (3 miles away) that says 'no parking 1a to 4a in the city limits'.

She was told there are '4 such signs in the city you should have read one, and if your just visiting you should have called the portage city hall and found out if there were any special parking rules.

Now, they added those 'new' signs last summer about no parking on one side, but they couldnt throw in _1_ 'no parking at all overnight?'.

Long story short, theres always a chance if you fight it, and if you dont, theres NO chance, so always fight it, but dont get your hopes up, and dont stress over it. Fight it, assuming you already lost, and you wont be dissapointed.

Now, paybacks a bitch:
The next week, the city contactacted us by tele asking for a donation to support XXXXXXXXXX (dont remember). I said enthusiastically 'AWESOME! how does $50 sound? They said 'GREAT! Thank you so much'. I got the address, and sent them a copy of the parking ticket. I asked them to NEVER contact me again for ANY fundraising events. Ill directy my charity dollars some place else.

What comes around goes around.

That's awesome!

Several years back they installed photo radar here in Vancouver. A friend of the family was nailed at the bottom of a hill (where the police said they'd never use the photo radar) going about 15 kph over the speed limit. So when they sent him the ticket with a copy of the picture of his license plate on it he sent them back a picture of a $100 bill. Several weeks later he received a letter back. In it was a copy of his ticket and a picture of a set of handcuffs! He decided it was worth paying the $100, it was pretty damn funny LOL
