SWTOR Who's playing?

Jr Hunter
Like the title says. Is anyone planning on playing Star Wars the Old Republic?

For those that don't know it's a Star Wars MMO that is coming out next year. I'm a big MMO fan and have been following the development of this game for quite some time.

Naturally I plan on playing the Bounty Hunter class.

I'm at CV right now and they just had a BioWare panel. It was great, and the game looks fantastic. They said it's like 8 KOTOR games worth of unique story!

looks like i'll be playing against you guys when this comes out. i'll be playing going republic side and playing a jedi consular.

TROOPER all the way
any1 who can stand toe to toe against a Sith Lord and isnt a Jedi - must be a bad donkey!

although I must admit - I am gonna be impressed for abt a day or 2 and then end up farming low level womp rats with my T-16 back home.

:D

My biggest concern with the game is the pvp element. I'd like to hear more definitevely how they plan on implementing it.

In other news they just released the Jedi Advanced Classes yesterday. Jedi Knights can specialize in Guardian (tank) or Sentinel (DPS). Not really a big surprise there. I can't wait to hear about the healing archtype and the BH advanced class.

i just wanted to say, i'm planning on starting a guild in this game, anyone interested in playing republic is more than welcome to join up if you don't have a plan for a guild already. drop me a pm or something and we'll get things going.

I would ignore anything that you hear unless you hear it from here...

My main concern is PvP. PvE play is almost equally important, but I'm hoping to see server types like the ones in WoW or the early Warhammer rule sets. If they exist I will play on a Roleplay PvP server and will try to join an all bounty hunter guild. I might even try to start a bounty hunter guild if one doesn't already exist, but running a guild is a full time job and I already have one of those.

Made a account to be signed up for the beta so waiting for a beta key and all. But can't wait to play as bh, it looks very entertaining. But my all time favourite sw games will be the kotor's hopefully this can match up or even top it.

the game looks awesome so ill definutley be playing....ill either be a bounty hunter a jedi knight or a sith warrior not sure yet....but definutley playin lol

why are ya not impressed lassiter? what have you been hearing?

Ive watched this since it was a rumor, about the time swg convinced me to have a new game experience, somewhere else.
Look at what they are saying about space combat, most likely rail missions from what the devs have been saying, but most of all it seems to be a single player game within a MMO.You will have sidekicks you can pick up and do there quests, you wont need to group unless you want to.
End game seems to be start another character and go through there storyline, based on two different interviews where the Dev's said why not start a new char when asked about end game.
All this has been taken from interviews and the gamesite.
But since it seems the game was delayed do to a redo of game/combat mechanics, was supposed to be released early this year now next year is the release, again supposedly.
With all the money involved and the big selling point is totally voice acted?
The cartoony characters and over sized light sabers were at least replaced. Lightsabers used to look like you were holding a Fosters can.

All i will add is that the forum group i am in has been hunting for every rumor and scrap of info, internet domain names registries, supposedly dumpster diving the Austin Office at one time, even baiting the Dev's to try and get info lol, among other things since 2005.
Was hoping for a new sandbox to play in, that's out, just hoping it is a good game now.

I will definitely be playing when it comes out, at least as much as I can around my school schedule and family time. It would be a great idea if we could get a couple guilds together from the members here, one for each faction.....have to see how things play out.

Personally I kinda like not having to group. Grouping IMO, is fine to do an instance etc.. but just questing to get levels etc... shouldn't require spending an hour trying to get sufficient people to agree to go along with you. Now this being a new game and everyone being around same stage, this shouldn't be a problem right off, but on established games like WOW, getting someone to help you with a quest that requires fighting off 8 waves of 6 enemies and then a boss, while you're playing a priest is just aggravating, City of Heroes is a GREAT example of this. To get anywhere above lvl 8 you HAD to groups because every single quest required you to run headlong into an entire building of enemies. Pus COH/COV just sucked a big one in every aspect but still.

In SWTOR what I'm looking for is the following:

1. Good story: Galaxies started off pretty cool, you got to interact with Fett and do missions for your respective side, and then all the sudden you're fighting insect/killick aliens for no reason, and to finish it off you go to their "hive" fight a ton of them and that's the end of the story, blech!

2. Good graphics: Cause let's face it a great story with poor graphics is about as fun as a root canal.

3. Game Play: A: This is where I begin to have an issue with WOW. After a while you have so many abilities to use your entire screen is completely filled with action buttons, making it almost impossible to find the right ones when you REALLY need them unless you have aliases set up. Give me about 10 good abilities, the new more powerful overrides the last and be done with it. I don't NEED an "common attack" button, right clicking does that for me so why waste that space? Do I "really need" 8 different versions of heal, stealth, stun? Give me one, but lower the recast time, that way I don't have to have 8 different stun spells just so I can keep my traget stunned long enough that I can stab him with my sword.
B: Let's stop with the even across the board idea, Galaxies was made horrible by this. The commandos were owning, and everyone complained, now we have dancer out battling the commando, which IMO is horsecrap. WOW is bad about this too, if you wanna run around and be a combat god, stop playing healing classes. You want to heal, don't play a warrior. Every class SHOULD be almost instant death to some classes yet get owned by that same class in another aspect. Again for an example Galaxies. Commandos should NEVER get beat at long range blaster fights, their training makes them that good, UNLESS faced with a Jedi who can deflect them back at them, etc... AT NO time should a entertainer outfight a commando, the character is an entertainer not a fighter, that alone in a fight should put them at a severe disadvantage, and why the hell the entertainer would ever need the knowledge to wear powered armor is beyond me, and imo was done so simply because you had people playing as entertainers crying because they couldn't go and stomp a rancor. However, when faced with the task of subterfuge the entertainer should be able to get items at far cheaper prices due to their "knowing people" where a big commando in big bad armor would just frighten them. I'm just sick of people crying until them devs make the entire game the same except different races. Again WOW is guilty of this. And as an aside, on the new WOW expansion why the hell would a race of werewolves align with the Alliance? Aren't they more likely to be members of the horde? It's because the alliance members are crying because they have humans, midgets, slightly smaller midgets, or weird blue people to play and nothing "cool" so Blizzard has decided common sense be damned let's put the flesh eating monsters on the good guy team.

There's more but this post is long enough as is.

When you hear someone say "balance the classes" it means that player has no idea how to play his character or use equipment/abilities to there advantage.
And unfortunately instead of the Dev's continuing with there vision of the game, they tweak, nerf and revamp the game destroying it for everyone.
Eve is the best example of Dev's sticking to there guns and going the distance, they continue to slowly increase subs, and yes it is a niche game but all MMO's are niche games.
Ah i need to keep my MMO rants on the mmo forum LoL, sorry.

LOL, seems to me we're of the same opinion on that one. Personally I HATE balance, you should play the class to it's strengths, not complain because you can't tank an entire instance as a rogue and claim that it's because the classes aren't balanced. Also with SWTOR, I'm hoping that the gameplay graphics are awesome. I'm sick of seeing sweet looking trailers like SWTOR has, and then getting the game and finding that the only parts with good graphics are the cut scenes while game play looks like I'm playing Atari.

As far as graphics are concerned, when making an mmo there is a fine line between top of the line graphics and lasting graphics. If they release an mmo with state of the art graphics it won't run on a lot of machines. Another factor that goes into the level of graphics is the longevity factor (that's what she said). WoW has basically the same graphics now that it had when it was released and still looks good. The cartoony look means that the graphics, while not top of the line state of the art, look good no matter how long the game is out.

Balance is vital for pvp....to an extent. Issues like the ones in WAR with Bright Wizards and Sorcerers are bad enough to ruin a game. However, those were seriously flawed classes. I personally think that if a max level naked Jedi squares of 1v1 with a max level Bounty Hunter with mediocre gear, the Jedi should win that fight unless the Bounty Hunter really knows what they are doing. Certain classes SHOULD be gear dependant based on the lore of this game. Jedi/Sith use the force, they have it whether or not they have clothes on or not Bounty Hunters, Smugglers, etc. should have to have epic gear to compete with the powers of the force. That being said I don't think the force users should get gear that makes their force abilities stronger.

Balance doesn't exist, in any MMO i would want to play, cookie cutter players and same equipment is only way to have balance, you can be the spec ops ninja master ultimate annihilator and be taken out by the sniper a mile away and someone would be calling for balance, but since the sniper would get waxed by the above in close combat someone else would then scream for balance.
It just doesn't exist, if you want to pvp build the char you want and have fun and play to your strengths not jump on the fotm for the latest advantage that someone will figure how to counter it next month.
All players yelling for balance means a lot of people have no idea how to maximize the chars abilities. All chars in a mmo can survive and thrive in pvp or the Devs wouldn't have pvp in the game, some char types are just naturally harder to win with, but OHH the satisfaction of hearing the supposedly unbeatable build get taken down by one of the despised classes LOL now that's fun.

And yes graphics will always have to take second place to performance to maximize the number of people who can play your game, i just want to see appropriate size for char items not the extremely cartoonish graphics that sw:tor originaly had.
