SuperTrooper parts documents and Palitoy toy company (long read)

With the recent release of the preproduction SuperTrooper video on StarWars.com by Pete Vulmer:http://www.starwars.com/video/view/new.html ;
TDH Thread: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?p=396696#post396696,

This Video has lead to a few other minor details and findings that were shared with me through a few “Friends Of TDH” in a very recent group email exchange, and I wanted to share this information with you, as I now have proper authorization from that source to do so. Unfortunately I am unable to use real names other than Pete’s…but this information is 100% creditable.

*Most of this info has already been well documented by Art Andrews…and in essence this information just “reconfirms” what has already been discovered by Art. So all kudos to those who were involved in the initial research.

In a recent email exchange:

Friend #1 of TDH:
“Lucas wanted to introduce Boba Fett(originally dubbed "Supertrooper") for promotional appearance purposes. He felt that Vader being so accessible to the public at events would reduce his on-screen presence, so he wanted to develop a new villain that could replace him for events.

I'll attach some interesting ESB production documents relating to the development of Fett. I believe the fact that six suits were created means that some (all?) were for promotional use”

*As most of you know these same documents were posted in Text form by Art Andrews from Mark Harris for the infamous Supertrooper / Boba Fett parts list. Listed here:http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=25691&highlight=found
With the list finally being released, text and hard copy, there have been some great strides in the discovery of found parts in terms of fett this last year…and again this reconfirms the previous research that there were 6 initial suits/ parts.

Now in my interview with Robert Watts at Fan Days II (seen here : http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=28866) who was also at George Lucas house during the taping of the Supertrooper video, he adamantly stated that there was only one “Complete” white fett suit. ….which leads me to the next question, What happened to the other five suits, or all the other parts???:confused....I think we have some Idea now.

Here is the rest of the exchange in my next post…and you will be surprised just as I was on how these suits and parts were used..

Continued in next post..

Continued:

Friend #2 of TDH:

“Hey all, that's a great video Pete, and interesting documents Friend of TDH#1.Of related interest, in my ongoing research on Palitoy, I've been lucky to track down the guy who had the privilege of wearing the Boba Fett promotional suit on the Empire Strikes Back Toy Shop tours held in the UK by Palitoy.
Darth Vader was also used for the tour, but it was usually a hired specialist for height, rather than a employee of Palitoy.

He recalls that the Darth Vader was only able to appear for about half an hour at a time due to the heat in the costume, but they were less fussy about Boba Fett (either because he was an employee or the suit was less demanding). He used to stand dead still and then suddenly move, to which people would jump a mile, and mentioned one lady hitting him with her umbrella as a result.
They used to sign autographs as the characters too, either on Palitoy posters or postcards. He recalls that occasionally they used to try and be clever with the autographs, once signing for a Policeman in Southampton; "May you be with The Force" ("The Force" is a shortened term for Police Force in the UK).
At another event too, the ruckus caused by the appearances led to a road being shut and the Police being called in to sort it all out.
It's a little bit later than what we are looking at, but thought this was a beautiful insight into the uses of such promotional suits and worth a mention.”

Now, where do I begin right?:love

First the suit pictured: as you can see the suit used in promotional events was clearly the prepro#1 helmet, or Eyes helmet...also pictured is the ESB EE-3 Blaster, WOW!!... and so far the armor has yet to be Identified… and we are thinking that this may be an additional painted set…..and finally you can see the Left gauntlet has hoses attached, which in itself is interesting...hmmm?
I will let you guys Elaborate further…But here is a quick comparison I did.

Now as far as The Palitoy Company, most of you UK guys can chime in here, but here is some back history on the toy company.

Glad to see these finally made public. I had permission to post the info, but wasn't not the actual scans. One thing to note, the original source, at least for my info was Mark Harris, not Mark Adler. Mark Harris was the "liason" for the supertrooper project.

Thanks Art, will make the correction...(y)..and thanks for your research.

Question: the way it was presented to me in email was as though this all took place with Palitoy AFTER ESB filmed..... so would it be safe to say that both the Eyes and the Hero ESB are two different helmets then??? :confused..if so, WOW...where's the eyes helmet now??

WOW. Thanks Spidey, so great to see the mysteries are beginning to clear.

I wish I could have seen the Palitoy Fett when I was a kid, I was in the UK then and a huge Star Wars fan but I never got see the real thing.

I will be the first to throw my theory out there

Is the guantlet that is being used in the picture the supertrooper/ pp3 left guantlet? Since only the pp2 and supertrooper/pp3(same guant) both have two hoses attached to the flamethrower. Its hard to see in the pic, but it doesnt look like its the pp2 guantlet because I cant see the flamethrower sticking out far. It also looks like the hoses are hanging like the supertrooper does in the new video released.

(In all the pictures I have seen of the supertrooper/pp3 guant the hoses are not attached to the guant. But the hoses can only be seen on the supertrooper and not the pp3. It does appear that it may be able to connect though.)

Is it safe to assume that this picture was taken during the same Palitoy Tour signings. From the picture it is the eyes helmet just like the above, and the kids are having what looks to be postercards in their hand like he said.

Since noone has identified the chest armor and believe it to be new. This may sound dumb and may be a really long shot but is the ab plate the same as we see on the Sandy Suit, that was in the Star Wars Insider Bounty Hunter Edition? Since the Sandy Suit had mixed pieces like the pp2 right breast plate and pp1 right guant, maybe this suit was thrown together with mixed pieces also. The only reason I say the ab plate may be from the Sandy is because of all the damage painted on it. It looks like the ab from the Sandy would fit better for this suit because this one seems to have more markings like the Sandys ab has. I always felt that the Sandy's ab looked a little out of place with the rest of the chest armor on the suit. From the pics its pretty much impossible to tell, like I said it's a long shot and may just sound dumb, but was just a thought in my head.

(I'm not on my computer, so this is all I have)

Enough theories for me tonight

Awesome stuff Nick(y)..

and I think that last picture where vader and fett are signing was taken in the U.S... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks again to those that made this info possible.(y)

You guys are amazing detectives! You could write a book with all of this research and interviews! I would love to see the definitive history of Fett's creation, design-wise, story-wise, and prop-wise, and influence on Jango and the clones. It has been done in bits and pieces, but having it all combined with new info like this in a new coffee table book would be awesome! Perfect timing if Boba is a major player in the live-action TV show as rumored.

Get on the horn with Sansweet and make it happen! :D

somthing i noticed thats pretty interesting. on the blaster. the bottom of the scope mounting rings doesn't look like the simple two pegs or what have you we see in ESB. it looks to be a large block or somthing instead. also either the scope is mounted alot higher or the molex connectors are on alot lower, could be both, than you see in ESB. there are afew things that just look odd about it
