stormtrooper helmets.. Questions?

Jr Hunter
a friend and i invested together on a stormtrooper helmet from ebay. won it for $40. now my question is, how do i duplicate it? i built a vacuum forming table, since its a full helmet i have to vacuum form it in sections 1/2 and 1/2 and then glue them. this requires me to either build a special vacuum forming table or cut the helmet in 1/2 which my fiend doesn't want to do. :facepalm:confusedThe helmet itself is made out of resin, and is from a mold. so i was wondering is there an easier alternative? also i do NOT want to pay for styrene etc. for forming since the shipping would be crazy expensive.(i live in the middle of nowhere) i was thinking of using old plastic garbage cans to form, or something cheap like that. please if you have any ideas or comments please respond. thanks again slimguy379

Hello and welcome to the board. Please read the CoC at http://moviepropsites.com/about/community-guidelines/

You might want to read the parts about

PROFANITY

The use of profanity is prohibited. For clarification on what qualifies as "profanity", please visit Wikipedia and search for “profanity” and “list of profanities” Profanity includes but is not limited to blasphemy (insults, slang or taking the name of a deity in vain), general insults and expletives, sexual insults or slang, and discriminatory insults or slang. Additionally, adding "@" or "#" or "$" or "%" or "*" or "-" or any other character in place of letters in curse words do NOT make those words acceptable to post. TDH has a profanity filter which will replace most inappropriate words with asterisks (*****). Even though the word may not be visible, this does NOT make those words acceptable to post.

RECASTING

Copying or duplicating, any item, with or without modification, without consent from the license holder, original creator, original artist, trademark holder, or copyright holder IS recasting. Deliberately recasting another member’s creation without consent is not supported by this community.

If an accusation of recasting is made, the burden of proof falls solely on the accuser. It is not the responsibility of the accused to prove their innocence in any form. The Dented Helmet chooses to believe our members are innocent until proven guilty, not guilty until they can provide proof of their innocence. It is not the job of the administration to determine if an individual has recast, only their job to administer punishment if an accuser provides definitive proof of recasting.RECASTING

You will note that people on prop forums are going to be a bit sand offish on people who just buy items from ebay and then start to copy them. You might also find that people my not want to sell you anything for fears you are going to just turn around and copy it.

That is actually one of the Early Don Post helmets.
Might be a cast of one but is definitely not an fx.
You can actually get these helmets on ebay for around $10-$20.
Probably cheaper than what it would cost to vacuform them. and with a few mods, can be a decent helmet. Not an accurate helmet but decent. I'll take some pics of mine and show you.

but id understand, if you have the mask whats the difference between you molding one and using the mask. and yes sorry for my vocabulary. and truly what makes you so sure that that is official Lucas films storm trooper helmet. maybe this is a form of a knock off... you don't know. i do but, you don't. so all in all i believe that's up to the guy i bought this from to tell whether is illegal or not

Whats your ebay name?

Did you not read this thread where you already made these comments on recasting?

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=28522

And I would pay close attention to asok's posting in here especially the part about recasting......Here I will re post in case you missed it the first time

welcome to the DNSL

Weather it is licensed or not it is still someone elses "work" and duplicating it weather it is by molding or vacuforming it is still recasting. "Recast" is even one of your tags. (Insert the posts from ASOK and SKYGUNBRO here.)

hahaha... as you've seen by the warm welcome, you've sort of missed the boat on a couple of things, not the least of which being that's pretty much the worst stormie helmet ever made... why would you even want to get everyone angry with you for recasting it ;)

seriously though... best to just say "sorry i didn't know" and walk away from this thread slowly :)

Hoo boy. Where's my popcorn?

wanna share?

I realize that you are only 16, so I will cut you some slack Slimguy.
The people on here are trying to steer you in the right direction.
When a Mod directs you to the COC & tries to offer advice, you'd be wise to listen.
Becoming defensive and belligerent will not endear you to the members here.

I'm still trying to figure out what the heck that gray moldy stuff is on the ear of the helmet? I can see why $40 won it, man. Yeah recasting that and getting nailed for it just isn't worth being blacklisted on pretty much every board.

I'm not trying to put you down or anything, but that thing is definatly a Don post/Rubies TK helmet. The dead give away is the space between the eyes, and the tiny areators. Its very easy for someone to sand off the LFL seal on the back of the thing, mold it and cast it in resin as you have right there. Telling us that it's resin just screams recasted to us.

Just please follow the CoC

Yeah... that looks bad. You really don't want another copy of it, in fact, it probably would be cheaper to go back to ebay, and buy another helmet than to make a vacum mold. And it'll look a LOT better.

It is foam. the one I got had it also. No ear details just foam glued to it.

yes, like skygunbro said, you may want to re-think your approach to this hobby.
the dented helmet and most other star wars prop/costuming communities don't support the practice of recasting and routinely black list people for such behavior. once your name is tarnished you'll find it hard to acquire the best of the best when it comes to props and costumes.

these are mostly fan made products that start with a motivated and talented artist who puts endless hours of love into the article that you hold in your hands...
their hard work and effort needs to be appreciated.
i wanted to post something more, but i think that i covered it in my other post in that other thread.

it is sad however that you got put on the Do Not Sell list over that helmet.
prop makers are serious.
don't steal from them.
:D

ok well, after some reading and reasoning i guess i can see the present issue. so i will wisely take stormtrooperguy's advice and post a reply to say that "I am sorry and obviously wont do it":(. and yes for all the people who have a post saying how crapy this helmet is i will most definately agree. I guess i will sculpt one out of clay along with a tusken raider helmet. i will hopefully post pics of my progress.:D i hope that this issue will now become obsolete and we ALL can go on with our lives.:cry i hope to try again with the whole tdh.com thing lol. i think this website is great and that the help on here is priceless, and would not want to kicked off by being "stupid" thanks again slimguy379
