A star wars costume for my friend

my friend wants to make this costume (he said he cant log onto the site for some reason or other), anyway, he has no costuming experience, he is in highschool with no job (nor can he get one in the town he lives in lol) so his limit is about $100 at most, and he said he has one year to complete it.

any help would be greatly apprieciated.
thanks

Sith Stalker Armor. I wanted to make that. I am not a costuming guy, but i am a huge geek and i know pretty much every character in the Star Wars universe and other stuff. I can't help you there, but i am sure many people here can.

for $100 I seriously doubt that costume will happen, having someone make the mask alone will probably run that much or more, then you have gloves, lightsabers, robes, boots. I'm really not trying to ruin hopes etc.. just being realistic. someone might be able to make the mask cheaper out of cardstock etc... but for someone with zero experience it'd probably be a pretty hard thing to do and may run that for materials by the time you modded the stock/sintra to make it look good, and again having someone else do it is gonna run a pretty good amount. How fast van he get $100? is that a per year amount? I'd save til I had enough to get decent parts to do it right the first time. I've found from personal experience that buying inferior gear and then having to replace it over time is far more costly that just dishing out the money for quality right off the bat.

yeah, $100 is going to be tight... even scratch building everything would cost more than that just in cardboard and paint :(

for a frame of reference, i'm building a set of clone trooper pistols and holsters.

i dropped $257.43 on supplies today to make them.

well, this doesnt have to look professional, but then again dont want it to look like a bathrobe and a paper mask lol, he said he gets $25 every two weeks and $65 when he mows so im sure he could save up some.

any tips?

$100 is as others have said is very tight. But if a pro job is not what your mate is after then I suggest he uses craft foam (foamies) and gets himself a hot glue gun. This stuff is a doddle to use and holds automotive paint well. It can be used to make the helmet but is going to need to some careful working out. The armour, what there is of it can also be done this way. As for the strapping getting some pvc cloth would do the job and look the part. This method would certainly keep the cost down but it's still going to go over the 100 mark with the robes and lightsabers.
Still if he wants it bad enough he'll find a way.
Good luck

$100 and one year to make it? That would be quite difficult to do, could your friend possibly be able to get more money in the 1 year time frame?

Thrift shops and paper mache. Some parts might be able to be made out of craft foam.

Still don't know if you could do it for $100 though. Even the toy hasbro sabers will cost about $30 to $40 to get enough of them (again, maybe thrift shops). Get the leather (or vinyl) belts there too. He might just be able to do it, but as everyone says it will be tough. He just needs to be VERY resourceful and get a lot of stuff free from his friends.

Can anybody come up with a good reason why Starkiller has Kit Fisto's lightsaber? (the one on the front left of his belt)

I doubt there is really any continuity to it, just used that model for the sake of it looking cool, I bet.

i said that earlier lol, he can most definately spend more than 100$, that's just what he told me at first, i told him that you all said it would be virtually impossible, and he told me how much he makes off allowance. he said also he can mow like twice as much lol
