A Star Wars Blast from the Past
I was going through some old stuff tonight, throwing out junk I haven't used in years, when I ran across something that I thought I would share with you.
In March of of 1981 I was in first grade. We had a huge blank wall in our classroom and the teacher asked us all to draw and cut out different hats to put on the wall, as if the wind were blwoing them all away. Even at this age I was an absolute Star Wars nut and so I drew my hero's "hat"... Luke's X-Wing helmet! To say the least my teacher was not amused and I got in big trouble for it because it wasn't a "real" hat. They actually called in my mom about it but after she talked with them (go mom!) they allowed me to put my "hat" on the wall with everyone else's. Man, when I think back to it, they sure were crushing creativity and imagination! Anyway, I just ran across the "hat" and scanned it in. Crude I know and not exactly screen accurate but I remember being quite proud of it back in the day.
Oh... and I also got in trouble in first grade for signing my papers "Han" but that is another story...

"Red 5 standing by"
Hey I got a pink(or was it white) slip back in 78(showing my age here) or so because I wouldn't stop humming the theme song during class. :)

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
Haha, that's awesome. I remember being in kindergarten around ROTJ release, and drawing Sarlaac pits and air skiffs.

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
Wow...that brings back memories...
In the sixth grade, I got busted not paying attention in math class, because I was too busy drawing a picture of Luke getting out of his snowspeeder before the AT-AT crushed him. They called my mother, too.

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
I never got in trouble for any of that kind of thing. I was in third grade though, and guess what the teacher nick-named me... Jabba. lol.
I drove the whole class nuts always talking about Star Wars. one guy even told me that it was all I ever thought about.

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
Don't want to hijack your thread, looks like we're the same age. I recently found this towel from many, many years ago. Thought I'd hold on to it in case it's worth anything.

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
That's a towel? You have some serious fraying going on there!

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
I had sheets and wallpaper VERY similar to that!!!
And I won't even begin to tell you about the time I was trying to draw a topless slave leia and my mom caught me... I was like... "MOM! I am 28! I can draw what I want!"
J/k.
She did catch me... Think that was right after Jedi came out. i tried to convince her those two orbs were eyes on a caterpillar... didn't work.. at all...

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
I had the same sheets! As a matter of fact, they're still in the cabinets at my parents' house. Looks like I need to make a trip back home.

i think i made this my freshman or softmore year of high school (somewhere around 90-92). i'm disappointed - i got his braids and capes on the wrong shoulders!
there was also a yoda head, but he got into a scuffle with a kiln and never really made it out.

it was even better once Dad had painted it blue:)

I seem to remember my friend having a die cast Millenium Falcon, that was soooooo cool.

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
Sounds familiar, except on career day in kindergarten, I told them I wanted to be a Stormtrooper. Twenty five years later...

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
We had a similar blank wall, except that we weren't told to put anything on it, but I did. :b I cut out a Death Star, a few TIE fighters and X-Wings, and a Millenium Falcon and taped em up on the wall. I also cut out green and red lasers for them shooting at eachother.
Also, since I'm 17, I was in about 4th or 5th grade when Episode I came out, so I would podrace into school everyday. :lol

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
I wish I had pics of it, but way back in the day, my dad, who works in the tower business, brought home this huge spool that used to have cable on it. He cut out a section of the middle of the spool and set it up for me so I had my own T.I.E. Fighter! I loved that thing! I drew a view screen and controls on the inside and everything!

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
This is a great thread :)
I wasn't born till a year before ROTJ was released so playing with my older brothers star wars toys is what got me interested (man what an understatement :lol ) in star wars intially.
I can remember playing with figures of Fett and the gang long before seeing ESB for the first time and I still have a few of them today. Amongst them luckily is my Slave 1 ship, Boba and Han in carbonite. I love these not only because they belong to my favourite film and characters but knowing they are amongst the first toys I ever played with.
The slave1 toy has seen better days :lol

I hear ya.
You're lucky you still have your own original toys. My brothers and I went through 3 X-wings and two Millennium falcons before my mom told us that she won't buy us anymore SW toys. The only physical evidence that I once had SW toys is an Admiral Ackbar that can't stand up on his own, a Chewie that has a melted face (that's another story :rolleyes ) and an R2-D2 leg.

Re: A Star Wars Blast from the Past
It looks to me like Brak's 1st grade hero was Ronald McDonald. Is it just me?

My friend the "Sniffer " agrees with you.
However, thanks to Braks explanation, his heart was in the right place.
There is nothing like the pure innosense of a childs drawing.
Sniff on my dear brothers, Sniff on!
The Sniffer Abides;)
